Check out their OH thread HERE

Royal Pirates is a South Korean rock band that consists of Kim Moonchul (vocals, guitar), Kim Sooyoon (drums), and James Lee (bass guitar).

The group was formerly known as Fading From Dawn in 2004 which consisted of Kim Moonchul, Kim Sooyoon, and Richard Kim, Moonchul’s brother. They played at several Korean events such as the annual Korean Festival in Orange County. After Richard’s death in April 2008 in a car accident, they rarely did any live events because they didn’t have a bass player.

After 2008, the band decided to change their name to Royal Pirates and uploaded various covers on Youtube such as

,
, and
. Through their covers, they were able to gain some popularity and were invited to appear in the variety show Star King, but the declined the invitation because of school and other reasons.

In September 2009  and October 2009, James Lee joined Royal Pirates as the bassist. In March 2010,  Royal Pirates released the music video for their demo song “Disappearâ€. In 2013, Royal Pirates made  their Korean Debut on August 25th 2013 at Inkigayo with their digital single “Shout out†As of now, they have released 3 digital singles, 2 Korean mini albums, and 1 Japanese mini album. Wrap Up

So here we are with Korean Artist of the Week coming back. Just like the Chinese and Japanese Artist of the Weeks, the goal of this thread is to introduce people to various types of music in South Korea. Sorry for some tighter requests rules because there’s really no point to highlight really popular artists that many people already listen to. >< Maybe I’ll take requests for really popular Korean acts in the future, but not now.

Anyways, Royal Pirates have been around for a while, but have recently debuted. I didn’t pay much attention to this group until Love Toxic, and after that, I fell in love with their music. I was kind of surprised they performed on music shows because I watch Music Core and Inkigayo on a weekly basis. Also, I probably didn’t know they performed because they probably perform at the very beginning which is usually the part I always miss because music shows have a tendency to start earlier than the indicated time.

Royal Pirates shows promising music in the future so I’m definitely anticipating their future works. They have tackled various sounds in their discography, so they have proven to be pretty versatile. With their stable vocals, they’re a band that people should check out. A final thing before I wrap this up, James is hot.
