This is a topic about circles and for this question it says

Find the standard form of the equation of each circle

35.Center at the origin and containing the point (-2,3)

This is the standard form of an equation of a circle with radius r and center (h,k) is

( x-h )^2 + ( y-k )^2 = r^2

Well it says here that the standard form of an equation of a circle of radius r with center at the origin ( 0,0 ) is

x^2 + y^2 = r^2

but can any of u guys can help me with this problem?

Like explain it to me step by step lol

if the origin is (0,0), then it would be x-0 and y-0. that's why it's x^2 and y^2

well when i look in the back of the book it says

x^2 + y^2 =13

which is the answer to this question but i wonder how it got 13???

As you wrote, the only thing remaining is to determine r. The equation x^2 + y^2 = r^2 cuts out the points that are at distance r from (0, 0). Knowing that (x, y) = (-2, 3) is one of those points should give you an equation that, together with knowing that r is positive, should determine r. Does that help?

To the OP: a good place for questions like this is Math SE.

I wish my students were this neat!

Thanks!

Woah really? :omg: I guess the math you learned in high school is way easier than the math I do in high school.

Well if you have more math questions you can always ask me. I would be glab to help if I can.
