i'm sure Mr Roger's had good intentions but yeah, surprisingly enough, what they're saying is making sense.

the amount of entitlement the people of our generation think they have is pretty ridiculous & i used to think that same way til life hit me in the face. over half the people in the United States is a perfect example of this.

have you worked in the service industry before? it's not restricted to our generation.

everybody in america thinks they're entitled to something and it has nothing to do with mr rogers. also look at the counter-examples they presented. asia? yes, i'm sure their lack of mr rogers is one of the principle reasons why they are more educated on average.

I'm sure I'm not the only kid who didn't take "you're special" to mean "you're special, so there's no reason for you to try hard"?  :wth:

i know the service industry lol. a lot of things aren't restricted to our generation like so, but still mr rogers was a big thing in our generation just as was barney, teletubbies, and such.

yeah everyone in America has strong feelings on what they are/should be entitled to, yet much of it goes undeserved. yeah the asia counter-example was pretty stupid and there's a lot more they could've used to prove a point, but what they are getting across here is a long stretch but it does make slight sense.

i'm not disagreeing that there're too many people here with an "undeserved" sense of self-entitlement (rather than undeserved, more like overreaching), but the fact that it's not restricted to generations means that since mr rogers IS restricted to our generation, he probably has nothing to do with it (and if he does have an effect, it's not small enough to make a measurable difference).

that is true. i get what you're saying. but were they not talking about our generation in particular? and well yeah. the entitlement issue is something that's been prevalent in people's lives long before Mr Rogers and will stay long after our generation passes. i guess you could say he had nothing to do with it, but he certainly didn't help the case as the final lady in the video said herself.

didnt help, but that also wasnt an issue people were really concerned about then. his goal was to get diamonds in the rough to realize their potential...

*/aside: isn't it kinda in line with the anti-abortion argument, though: YOUR FETUS COULD HAVE GROWN UP TO BE SOMEONE AMAZING TOO BAD YOU RUINED ITS CHANCES.

anyway, regardless of all this stuff, the way they are discussing it and pinning so much on him is kind of weird, especially when parents and teachers also use the same tactics when raising/talking with children.
