So, I was telling my friend about kpop and how much I love snsd, and how they won award in youtube and stuff.

But she said the only korean girl group she knows in korea is Wonder Girls and she never even hear of kpop or listen to anything she just knows the wonder girls, so, I was wondering what kind of girl group in Korea do you think is know in America or what girl group do you think non-kpop know about ?

To me personally I think it's Girls Generation and 2ne1 because they're the most popular in Korea. But, I don't know, what are your thoughts?

I live in a area where there are a lot of Asians/Koreans in general. I'm a high school student. Girl groups are irrelevant to girls my age. I only hear them talk about boy groups so.....

Overall, they are all irrelevant AF so it doesn't really matter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If anyone, SNSD or 2NE1 - it's still doubtful that if you were to mention them to some average joes that even one of them would know them though. Outside of those who are friends with K-pop fans (or Koreaboos) and those who spend all their time on YouTube no one knows about K-pop.

I forgot that Wonder Girls had that Nickelodeon movie and featured on the channel and stuff so people might remember them from that, but I wouldn't call that popularity.

I'd actually also dare to say f(x). They got a lot of attention when ES was released so people might still remember / follow them. It's a shame SM didn't take advantage of their popularity at the time and promote them more. But again remembrance does not equate popularity.

Before I got into Kpop, all I heard of was Wonder Girls. They were the first. I am pretty sure, they're the ones people probably heard of first or 2NE1. Girls Generation is a possible third.

And this. Even before I got into Kpop I had heard about the WGs. I stanned for the JoBros and they were on tour with them and stuff too.

I remembered that and I think they were on the Wendy Williams show and they had a short pictorial in one of the teen magazines all when their dong, Nobody came out.

Yep! I remember all of that too. They even had something going on with Nick. A friend of mine who doesn't really know about Kpop mentioned them to me once. That was a while ago tho.

Truthfully, kpop isn't that popular in America (not the general population, by the way) or it's not popular in the area that I live in. Anime is more popular than them.

I have a tendency to hear more about boy groups than girl groups...and when I hear girl groups, it is generally because the girl group is in the same company as the boy group that they like. Generally...I hear SM and YG. Hardly hear people talking about any group outside of them.

Oh yeah, their movie with the School Gyrls! Unfortunately, I don't think it did as good, but it was entertaining. It's on youtube. (I'm surprised JYP didn't take it down.)
