i read a list of what was taken out for sims 4, and its a huge step back and for the first time im not gonna buy a sims game.

ive liked this franchise since sims 1. but sims 4 ... no thanks.

it pisses me off actually. especially knowing how they are probbaly gonna add the basic stuff with expansions.

Well I think maybe when I am over the Sims 2 (which I am not) the Sims 4 would be a def buy than Sims 3. I like the Sims 2 because of the storyline in the base neighborhoods and you can manipulate or create your world. Sims 3 like Sims 4 seems more creative but I can say Sims 4 characters look better than the Sims 3.

Gameplay actually isn't all that bad. And the lack of open world feature doesn't bother me as much as I thought I did. Everything runs faster and more smoothly and there's still plenty of people and things going on in the neighborhood that you can have your sim step outside their house and interact and do things easily. The only thing that bums me out is the lack of toddler and pools, as well as having to have a flat terrain. They did a lot of great things with the build feature to make it easier for people and added some cool stuff, but it also took away some of its freedom. Also the teens are the same height as the young adults, which weirds me out a little.

the only things that i like are the extra customization and the closed worlds

open worlds made ts3 lag like a bitch if you put even just a little custom content/dlc

I think that's what most people are forgetting. No matter how great the computer used to play the game, the lag was awful for that reason.

I just hate that they completely dialed back on the visual realism. In the Sims 2 and 3, they got closer and closer to looking more realistic and in the Sims 4, the look as cartoonish as they did in the Sims 1, just better graphics.

no

sims 2 was the closest to realistic

sims 3 was pretty cartoonlike imo

Really? Well, maybe "realistic" isn't the best word to describe it, but there was something about the way things looked in the Sims 3 that I loved. But when I saw the first teasers for the Sims 4 I was totally disappointed. I'll still buy it (actually I'm hoping my uncle gets it as a gift, because he's gotten my all my other ones). How do you feel about the way they look now?

i don't really like the look

but put in some custom skins, it'll be fine

i do like the greater control over features tho

I think they just took everything out so they can reason for expansions/dlcs

Basically, yeah.

My dad just bought me TS4 Premium a few hours ago. Haven't really gotten into the gameplay yet cause I've spent hours just in the CAS but I'm going to see for myself then form an opinion.

  • 2 weeks later...

The game is actually really good, its just like the original sims.

A lot of the features they didn't include like Cars and Newspapers, Acne, and toddlers were redundant anyways. It wasn't like you could control the actually driving of the car or that toddlers could really perform any actions anyways. That list is a poor representation of the "good" things about the game like the completely overhauled social interactions or how the sims multitask now.

i torrented it about a week ago... and haven't gotten around to actual gameplay yet... just making my sims and some build mode...

from what i can tell though...

1) i'm glad i didn't buy it

2) there are some good new things, especially in build/decorate mode... but...

3) common gripe is justified.... that it's a step back overall... probably it would have been a great addition...if all the strengths of Sims4 were added to the general style and gameplay of Sims 3 .. then it would have been superior to Sims 2 which i think is still the best.

I've already begun to add mods to enhance the game though... and mods/scrits are coming out fast.... so i think plenty of the things people feel Sims 4 is lacking, will be modded.
