Former KARA member Jiyoung will be making her Japanese comeback with acting activities in the NTV drama “Jigoku Sensei Nu~be~†(Hell Teacher Nube), which will begin airing in October every Saturday at 9PM.

Jiyoung will be playing the role of Yukime. She will be playing a dual lead female role with fellow actress Kiritani Mirei, who will play Takahashi Ritsuko/Ritsuko-sensei. Before shooting, Jiyoung stated, “I want to do my best so that people fall in love with my characterâ€.

Jiyoung retired from KARA this year and then went to England to study English and acting. In August she signed an exclusive contract with her new agency ‘Sweet Power’. She has already done a complete image change and did a calendar shoot, but this will be her first job as an actress since her return.

In this work Jiyoung will be costarring with: Kiritani Mirei, Kanjani8’s Maruyama Ryuhei , Hey!Say!JUMP’s Chinen Yuri , Hayami Mokomichi, Yamamoto Mizuki, and Takahashi Hideki.

Jiyoung’s character Yukime is a snow-woman and self-proclaimed fiancé to the main character Nu~be~ (Maruyama). Nu~be~ saves her as a little child from a hunter in the snowy mountains and ever since then Yukime has given up her heart to him. Yukime wants him all for herself and she is a character with a lot of confidence, so she tends to cause quite a bit of trouble in the world of humans.

Jiyoung commented about her sudden new role, “I own the original manga, so I’ve been thinking about how to keep her close to the original as possible. It’s hard for me to do. I want to protect her image from the original work, but I also want to bring about a new Yukime for the drama. I want to do my best so that not only the original fans, but new and younger fans will also come to love her as a character.â€

Toda Kazuya, producer of this drama, was asked if it was difficult to cast the innocent and free-spirited youkai Yukime. “When we first met with Jiyoung, she was just what we had hoped for. She has beautiful  white skin just like a snow-woman and even though she’s pretty she also has a playfulness about her. She can play around and has a charming smile. We knew she was perfect for Yukime. Please look forward to Jiyoung acting as Yukime.â€

Jiyoung commented about the character Yukime, “Ever since I was little I’ve been interested in Japanese youkai (ghosts/spirits), so I thought it was very interesting when I read the manga. Especially Yukime. When I started reading I just got sucked in and I really thought I was so much like her.â€

[+4849, -1021] Did they think it was better change and add Kiritani to the cast??

[+3648, -715] I don’t know the main cast well? And now they’ve added a foreigner?

[+3189, -258] Sometimes mangas turned into dramas are good and sometimes they are bad, unfortunately I think this one is going to be bad.

[+2968, -637] I think the main problem is having Maruyama cast in the lead role of Nube. I don’t think he’s really good looking. This girl’s Japanese may end up being shoddy, but I hate the thought of Nube saying his lines in a Kansai dialect even more.

[+2744, -347] Yukime/Yukime… I’ve always pictured her differently… Was she forced to be cast?

[+1956, -171] Usually the cast is supposed to draw you in, but I don’t feel that way with this one…

[+1462, -141] I feel like they should switch the roles for Ritsuko-sensei and Yukime.

[+1271, -118] This feels forced. If they change it any more, then it’s going to be something completely different. I think the original manga is interesting, but I just feel like this cast doesn’t really suit those characters…

[+1071, -126] I’m okay with Yukime, but Ritsuko-sensei doesn’t really have a bright image and even more she doesn’t have a ridiculously slender figure like Kiritani does. The same reason I didn’t think she fit Fujiko-chan’s role in Lupin, she needs more of an hourglass figure for this character. She doesn’t have a bouncy body. Since Fujiwara Norika is maybe too old, the only one that I can picture is someone like Sawajiri Erika?

[+1038 -198] I haven’t been interested in this cast since the first time I heard about them. But this just makes me double sure that I absolutely will never ever watch this drama.

I wonder if she based in Japan now or if she is planning to come back to Korea some day.

Korean (netizens) hate her because of the Radio Star incident. Jiyoung receives more flak from that incident than the other members, so I'm assuming this is why she chose to go to Japan despite Japanese actors/actresses making a lot less money than Korean actors/actresses.
