SM and JYPE. Same song. Different feel?

"They have soul"

I'm yet to discover if the sound that left my mouth was human or not while reading this

You can tell they are actually feeling the song and each other, they are putting their own signature on the song (with the runs, phrasing and melodic variations that don't sound rehearsed) on this song and generally not playing it safe and 'pretty'.

More like you can tell that they are pretending to feel the song.

JYP is the best by far. I don't even think SM's was even live which is why it probably sounded so dull.

However, I prefer SM's. JYP's version just sound too busy. Had it been a duo singing all of those runs and stuff, it would've been fine but it's a quartet. It's bound to start sounding muddled with so many voices.

Also, SM's version is literally just a bunch of rookies singing against JYP who are literally veterans plus Yerin.

The addition of JYP himself pretty much seals it and then you also have Yeeun who is an amazing vocalist.

I don't think you can really compare that lol.

SM's sounds like a bunch of disney kids gathering for their disney mania album

Pretty much. It kinda drives me nuts to hear excellent R&B songs sung by folks who seemingly have never listened to R&B singers before.

look at this masterclass by Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston.

Then listen to the two videos in the OP and decide which group brought the most similar feeling.

on a related note; Glad to hear Yerin sounding like this (I wouldn't be surprised if she listened to Whitney in the video above EDIT: Listening to this and then JYP version back to back, I'm pretty sure Yerin did listen to this because it sounds quite similar...but if you're going to pick someone to emulate, Whitney Houston is generally a good choice if you can pull it off. And she can) Seriously I really want 15& to have a 'fuck the script, I'm just going to sing whatever the hell comes to me' performance. They have it in them.

Honestly you can't hear SM's one properly. The sound is so bad to judge anything.

But even like this, you can hear Jun.k and jyp struggling to sing and honestly can't feel the emotion everyone is talking here? Most likely struggling with singing, if that's any emotion.

SM is just "generic" because they actually can sing well the song (like how it should be sang), even if they don't change the song. (Come on it's only a cover, it's not requited for them to change the damn song.)

I prefer JYP idols. SM idols did a fantastic job, they pulled all the talented singers with great range and they hit all the right notes. However, it just didn't give the same feeling of artistry and musicianship?

Idk I'll probably come off as biased but JYP idols sound like true RnB artists who felt the song through and through while SM idols looked and sounded like a group of talented choir kids in a highschool talent show. Maybe it's because most of the JYP idols up there are the in-house producers, fluent in english (and can understand the lyrics better?), have richer tones, or a combo of any of the aforementioned? I feel like if it was someone like say Baekhyun up there or maybe Taeyeon they could sell the song better with their more soulful voices.

Either way, I don't think anyone can deny the feeling is different for both videos. Great job to both groups (Henry surprised me tbh)
