eh i thought both of it was the same

Fan is just a supporter and someone who loves the group and understands that the bias is human and will make mistakes.

Stan is someone who is blinded by love (no matter what mistakes the bias does the stan doesn't see it), thinks the bias is all perfect/ flawless and the best ever at everything and noone can compare to him/her.

I think fan, is just like a casual supporter. I mean you like the group but don't follow their whereabouts.

While a stan is following ur biases activities etc. Being updated. It doeant necessarily mean that you are a sasaeng or what.

That's what I always thought the difference was.

Like if you call yourself a SONE, ELF, VIP, Blackjack you are a stan...

Where are people getting this "blinded by oppar" thing from?

IKR, People making things complicated and dramatic.

In my case, I'm a fan of Sistar and BAP. I enjoy their music and appreciate them.

I'm a fan of EXO but I only stan Lay.

I'm an ELF, meaning i stan the whole group.

EDIT: lmao, what's w/ the negs. Seriously.. tsk... tsk...

Fans simply like said group/idol and support them. Stans are much more obsessive, vocal, they spend more money on merchindise, and are known to be protective over their bias group/idol. I definitely think there is a difference as stan means stalker fan, while fan is just a general term for anyone who likes something.

only kpop fandoms seem to differentiate between fan and stan, they're the same thing elsewhere, so I don't care what people call me

Not really. There's Gaga fans and then there's Gaga stans. There's Beycone fans and then Beyonce stans. There's Lana Del Rey fans and then there's Lana Del Rey stans. This that and the third. Though, it seems like the word stan is much more commonly used within the gay community. I've never seen a One Directoner call herself a stan, but I see this word used all the time on ATRL and Youtube videos for certain female artists.
