partaymaker 530
Japanese boy band Arashi’s two concerts in Hawaii next month are expected to bring in more than $18 million in direct spending from concert-goers, and more than $100 million in public relations and advertising value surrounding the event, according to Hawaii Tourism Japan, the marketing arm of the Hawaii Tourism Authority in Japan. The two shows at Ko Olina Resort on Sept. 19-20 could pave the way for more Asia-based artists to play in Hawaii. "This sets a new precedent for us to do these kinds of things in Hawaii and it will be pretty much groundbreaking for us to pitch some other big acts to come out here out of Asia, not only Oahu but the Neighbor Islands as well," said Eric Takahata, managing director of Hawaii Tourism Japan. Bringing Arashi to Hawaii has been a two year process for Hawaii Tourism Japan. It considered other venues, including Aloha Stadium, but ultimately chose Ko Olina Resort. "It’s kind of a no-brainer,†Takahata said. “We all wanted to do it at Ko Olina because it’s a beautiful area and just special.†Preparations are in progress at a vacant lot fronting the third lagoon, including flying in two large multi-million dollar stages from Japan. “This is the first time they’re all hauling it this far into the U.S.†Takahata said. “It’s never been attempted or done before, flying that much equipment here.†Takahata said Arashi rarely plays outside of Japan and this is “big treat†for people in Hawaii and the U.S. Hawaii Tourism Japan said there are 15,000 confirmed visitors coming in from Japan. In addition to regular flight service, the concert package has 18 chartered flights, with five charters from Japan Airlines, eight charters from Korea Airlines, four from United Airlines, and one from China Airlines. People are coming from as far as the U.S. East Coast and Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Korea to attend the concerts, Takahata said Most of the visitors have been booked at Waikiki hotels and will be shuttled to West Oahu in 150 motor coaches from various transportation providers. One of Ko Olina Resort's two hotels, Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, is sold out for that weekend. “The Arashi concert coming to Hawaii will provide significant exposure for the Hawaiian Islands to our largest international market during a slower shoulder period,†Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO Mike McCartney said. “The event, which will be held in Ko Olina, will also draw attention to a growing resort area on Oahu and help to promote Hawaii’s diverse landscape and offerings.†The band's Japan-based sponsors, such as Nissan, ran promotions that included entering car buyers into a contest to win a tour package to Arashi Blast in Hawaii. Nissan sold 99,000 cars as part of the promotion, Takahata said. No public appearances have been scheduled as of yet, but there will be a press conference for local and Japanese media, Takahata said. Japanese media will be covering the event, and the band will film for a DVD of the concert. As of Monday, general admission tickets were still available for purchase by Hawaii, U.S. and Canadian residents. The band will perform one concert each on Sept. 19 and 20, and each is expected to draw 15,000 attendees. Arashi themselves probably dont even remember that performance. At least that guy was into it.lawlz I should also note, if you are in Japan and you cant go to the concert, DONT WORRY YOUR PRETTY HEAD because the concert in going to be broadcast in cinemas all over Japan~!
