ARENA HOMME+ Magazine with Kangin and Henry Interview [Trans]

arena-homme1.jpg?w=550

It’s been 8 years since group ‘Super Junior’ debuted. Thirteen members each worked on their music shows, and also worked in variety shows and many other areas. Among them, Kangin was a familiar face. His quick sense and ability to speak well was shown on variety shows. As the numbers of his variety shows increased, more gossips were spread. After long time, Kangin quietly returned to his position. After his army service, he finally returned to Super Junior as the first reserved soldier. Joining in a unit targeted for China, Super Junior-M, Henry made his name known in Korea in June with his first mini album “Trapâ€, and as a first male solo SM has presented in 13 years. With father from Hong Kong, and mother from Taiwan, he was raised in Canada, and is now a global idol that promoted in China. He studied classical music since he was little, and his talent for pop music was discovered early. His album is full of songs composed by him thanks to that. His honest and slightly weird way of talking on variety shows became a hot topic, and he’s an idol with Korean and foreign fans. But at the photo shoot locations, he was like a little a boy.
Kangin and Henry’s relationship is Sun/Hoobae in music, company family, and shares the name of ‘Super Junior’. It was out of curiosity for us to capture them with cameras. The two were different. Kangin liked ttokbbokki, while Henry liked bread. But the two were also same. One star that lost its shine is on his way to getting it back, and another star is gaining more light. The two youth shares the burden from having an exposed-to-public life. Kangin and Henry look different, but they are going down the same path.

Kangin Interview

You are getting ready to reappear on national TV. In the end of August? You must have been careful about making the decision.
I wasn’t hesitating because I was afraid. It was just that my heart was closed. I wasn’t ready. The person who has to give laughter to the public, wasn’t ready to smile. I first had to get readjusted to the society. 4 years was a long time.

Yes. The world changes at a faster rate.
I am very sorry when I meet my hoobaes, but I really can’t tell who is who. So I tried searching every one of them before.

When Super Junior debuted, sunbaes must have felt that way too.
When we did interviews with newspapers, we went around with name tags. (laugh)

That was already 8 years ago. This year, you became 30. For a man, 30 is an important year.
Yes. It is special. I actually wanted to hurry up and become 30. I thought I would become an adult when I become 30. Deciding on what I want to do, talking, moving, and thinking like an adult. But I became 30, and I still feel like a 20 years old kid. The age “30″ is hard. I act more careful and talk more careful now. I think ‘My words can become a scar to someone, and also could become encouragement for someone.’. I have become a bit more mature.

Do you feel that you have achieved nothing alone so far?
I have experienced many precious things so far. Something I wouldn’t be able to exchange with money or anything. People say “Aigo, Kangin did something terrible when he was 26 and went to army in 27. That’s when he was most popular…†but I’m (not sad about it) at all. I have learned many things.

You can say this because it has passed. When you were in middle of this, you didn’t have same thoughts.
I would be lying if I say no. But I am different than those who experienced hardship before debuting. I experienced it while I was receiving lots of love. So I thought I would never be able to stand on the stage again. That’s all I thought when I was in the army. “What will I be when I return now?†No matter how many chances come, and even if people forgot about it, I thought I wouldn’t be able to forget about it. I wasn’t able to forgive myself.

You blamed yourself a lot.
It was like, the fire within me died out. Pouring bucket of water on the fire that was burning within me. People who remember me from past variety shows gave me strength. Adults told me “Aigo, I watched “We Got Married†well. Super Junior is full of energy with Kangin.â€
Ah, right. I was someone that was receiving lots of love. Why did I give them disappointment instead of enjoyment?’ and blamed myself, and regretted a lot.

Why couldn’t you have thought of this while you were busy?
In past, everything was just work to me. Fun job, job that I could enjoy, done out of habit. Something obvious…. I thought me appearing on TV was an obvious thing, and fans coming to see me was an obvious thing too.

The public can be a friend, and turn into an enemy in a second. They are especially harsh towards idols. They want as much as they give. They expect you to live the way they want.
In that area, I am now peaceful about. Going to army was the biggest influence in that. 2 years in the army is like the only normal social experience I have after debut. Every celebrities need a time like that. Responsibilities that come in being an Idol should be carried and endured. Because it’s the path I chose. It’s a big thing to be loved by so many people. It may be too much to endure as a young person. But I am 30 now, and I am okay.

How did you feel when you were released from army?
I didn’t cry in front of the cameras outside, but when I was saying goodbye to junior officers, tears came out. The age gap between us was big, so they seemed uncomfortable with me at first, but on the day I was being released, they called me “hyung~†while crying.

Your comeback stage after army seemed lifeless to fans. You might have been low-spirited.
I was. It felt like a strange unfamiliar place to me. First two months, I wasn’t able to sleep in the night before music shows.

You must have worried a lot. You seem to be more eased now, and brighter.
I’ve gotten better. If “Star Show Splash†was 100% variety show, it wouldn’t have been easy for me to go on it. But this program’s message is about ‘challenging’. So it has a big meaning to me.

Environments in broadcast shows has changed, you have many more hoobaes, and when the program starts, you will hear many more things. You have received a scar before, you may be fine now or feel more frightened.
It’s not something I can do about it. I know that I cannot jump over everything with just one step. I don’t act greedy nor rush myself in this.

Is it awkward, being your first variety show after a long time?
It’s not really awkward, but I wasn’t able to bring myself out to the front as much as I did in past.

Were you comfortable in past?
I was number 1. I played while recording shows. Sunbaenims said I am ‘cute, good’ after recordings, so I played around more, and they accepted it.

You received lots of hate comments online.
It was obvious that I’d receive curses, because what I did was wrong. They aren’t wrong. But when I saw that some people had complete misunderstandings… I wanted to visit them one by one to share a cup of soju with them, and talk to get rid of the misunderstandings. (laugh)

You are doing ‘Super Show 5′ world tour with Super Junior members. You participated up to ‘Super Show 2′ and came back for 5. It’s happiness to be able to stand on stage and be with fans.
I am really thankful to fans, that I cannot express it into words. Fans worried a lot for me while I was in the army. They kept telling me to think right, and those young friends shook my heart. I really felt like going crazy.

And with their help, you were able to open your heart and forgive yourself.
When we hold concerts, thousands and thousands of fans come watch. In past, I thought that was an obvious thing. I only realized in the army how they work hard to save their money, and break time to come to the concerts.

Normal people experience falls and ups in their 20s too. Kangin spent 20s in Super Junior. Super Junior must be another ‘world’ to you. How does it feel, does that ‘world’ become stronger as time goes?
I have received too much from members, and learned too many things. People expect me to be ‘tainted’ by those things, but I am not. I have matured more inside, and have deeper thoughts now. Other than that, it even makes me curious how we are still same.

As much as Super Junior was loved, you had to pay back a lot.
We were doing very great with ‘Sorry Sorry’. After what I did, members must have lost energy. When I was in army and saw them perform ‘Bonamana’, I could easily see that they prepared a lot. I wasn’t thinking ‘I should be there’, I was just very happy and thankful.

You are now at a new start. What kind of man do you want to become?
A man should know to look at only one thing. Whether it be love or a dream. You should have a definite heart as a center. I want to become a good man. A person that’s nice and warm to each and everyone. I have had people point fingers at me, but now I want to hear “he is a good manâ€. That is the goal in my life. One day, when I get married and have kids, die, or be discussed, I want to hear things like “your father is a good man. your husband is a good man. your son is a good son.†I hope that becomes true.

Henry Interview

We saw you perform a solo stage on a ‘Super Show’ before. You played piano and guitar all by yourself. It made us say ‘Wa~’
That was when I was really a baby. (Laugh) I really sucked. I still can’t play well, but I was worse then.

You speak 6 languages, play many instruments… People call you ‘genius’ or ‘talented’, do you know this?
Ai~ I’m not a genius.

You said you started learning classical when you were little?
I learned violin and piano since I was 6

What more did you want to do?
I didn’t want to do both. My mom forced me to do them. When I became 10,11 years old, I won 1st place in a contest. After that, I liked music. Before then, I really hated it. I didn’t have any thoughts like ‘I’m going to continue playing classical music!’. I didn’t think ‘I want to become something with this’. I just got up in the morning and practiced. And so, music became part of my life and a habit.

How did you go to SM Audition in 2006?
I didn’t know what SM was back then. I didn’t know Super Junior too. I was raised in Canada, and had no chance to hear about Korean music. Before the audition, I went to places like festivals to sing and dance. A Korean friend recommended me to SM Global Audition. And I am now here.

You made it here though you had numerous competitors. What did you do at the audition?
I danced, played the violin, and I sang the Korean song ‘I miss you’. I didn’t know Korean at all then. The staffs thought I was a Korean, and asked me questions in Korean. (Laugh)

How was your childhood in Canada?
Our neighborhood was diverse, with blacks, whites, and asians. There were many Koreans and Chinese. The languages I learned from Chinese, Indian, and Thai friends from school still helps me during music promotions.

Your personality must be very opened too?
I am too opened. That’s the problem (laughs)

It must have been hard when you first started promoting in Korea.
You can’t really say Koreans are opened*. I wasn’t able to speak Korean well, and I didn’t know the culture well, so it was reall~~y hard.
*T/N: Koreans used to be really closed minded to foreigners; it has gotten much better over the years, but many older generations are still closed minded ^^;

Koreans still talk and count ‘our people, our nation’s people’
What is ‘ë™í¬?’

People from same nation
Ah~! But the problem I had I think was I appeared to be Korean, but I wasn’t.

That was a problem?
People assumed that I am a Korean from my looks, and expected me to have Korean manners. I didn’t know I had to be careful, even about 1 year age differences. So people first thought I was a rude person.

You were raised by Asian parents, in Canada, with diverse friends. You are going around many countries, with Korea as the center. Where do you feel is your ‘home’?
Home. The standard for ‘home’ has really gotten awkward. In past, Canada was my home, but after living in Korea for 6 years, I feel that Korea is more ‘home’ to me. I spent a long time in China for Super Junior-M activities, so China feels like ‘home’, and I’ve also lived in Taiwan and Hong Kong, my parents’ countries, so they feel like ‘home’ too. I’ve also lived 6 months in Thailand. I speak a little Thai, so that place feels like ‘home’ too. There are fans that always welcome me no matter where I go, so everywhere feels like ‘home’.

You travel many places for long times. Do you sometimes feel lonely?
I did feel that way once. Now, I know that ‘home’ is decided by who you are with, not where you are. Our members, staffs, and friends that I write songs together with.

The team name is ‘Noize Bank’?
Oh! Yes! I go around and play with those friends often. We go play, go to supermarkets, people who you are with is important. If I go to my home in Canada and no one is there, that’s not ‘home’ to me.

When you did activities with members in China, members must have been like family to you then.
Of course, of course.

We talked about cultural differences earlier. Did you have any with Super Junior members?
All the knowledge I have about Korean culture and Korean language is from hyungs. So sometimes, I say strange things.

Like the one you talked about on the show? How you accidentally said ‘Ajumma, please take off your clothes’ instead of ‘Ajumma give me mushrooms’ ?
There are more strange things I’ve said. Ones I cannot talk about on shows (laugh)

Not for shows? Are you still learning a lot from hyungs?
I am now teaching hyungs. Haha.

You must feel happy about receiving lots of love.
Am I receiving lots of love right now? I don’t know for sure.

What’s Henry’s charms?
매력? What does 매력 mean?

There must be a reason why SM brought you out as their first male solo in 13 years!
My charms are my music. Doing the music I want to do. And also because I am like an average person? Someone you can comfortably meet on street while walking.

Where would we meet someone like Henry on the streets?!
I don’t have anything special. I don’t think I have any talents as an artist that I had since birth. It’s all through hard work. Violin and Piano skills are also not born-with talents. I practiced 5-6 hours daily ever since I was little.

Did you have long trainee years?
I debuted not long after passing the audition. I learned much more while doing activities. First 3 years, I wasn’t happy. ‘I can’t do well, I need to do better’ I kept thinking that. So I asked the company for some time. I studied music in USA and came back.

You did activities with hyungs in China, and now you are standing alone in Korea.
Am I doing well? Was it okay?

Do you not have confidence in yourself? (laugh)
No, I need to continue to do better.

You seem to be the type that aren’t satisfied with oneself.
I have to look much more forward, and think forward. This is just the start. I can to many more music I want to do.

You’ve debuted in 2008, and performed mostly overseas. You must have received lots of scars and learned much. What kind of musician do you want to become?
I will continue to make music, and continue to stand on great stages. My biggest goal in doing music is this. I would be really happy if someone would listen to my song while driving. It’d be nice if a man and woman make up after fighting, through listening to my music. I want to make many music that people would be comfortable in listening to.

When you are too tired or want to give up, do you sometimes want to end everything and go back to Canada?
Whenever I feel that way, I watch a movie. A movie like the one with Will Smith in it, “The Pursuit of Happynessâ€. Many people in great hardships are shown in movies like that. I have never been in a hardship that’s as bad as them. When I watch the movies, I feel that the hardship I’m going through right now is nothing.

Many people are making goals after seeing Henry.
I know well. So I have to become an even better person in future. A good person that gives good influences.

Kangin's interview.. aw/:(.

RW: I used to be the person that would drink soda even while eating rice. But I thought ‘I shouldn’t do this’ because it was causing my voice to crack. Continuously drinking soda was bad for my throat, and I didn’t think it’d be good for my stomach. I thought about how I should stop drinking, and I told a lie to everyone “I don’t like cola, cider.†and I gradually got to not drinking it. If I do drink it, I would become a liar. I started to not drink it, and I really ended up not drinking it anymore. I haven’t drank cola, cider since then.

What's wrong with drinking soda while eating rice. But wow.

Can't wait to watch the subbed episode  :ahmagah:

LMAO. I hope this show gets fully subbed. It seems hilarious.

!!!!!!!!!!! Guys!! Guys!!! I just came back from Turkey!!!   :la:
I'm still incoherent, in shock, sometimes crying, sometimes mute - feel like a 13 yo again!

I was there for 2.5 days and got a full on Kpop fangirl experience with everything included: meeting at the airport, standing in line from early morning (they wouldn't allow us earlier lol), being the 5th freaking person to enter the stadium and standing in the very first line of the VIP moshpit    aka going through hell to find heaven lol. On some fancams you can see my lonely blue balloon sticking out from the front of the left-moshpit, near the center of the stage.

Let me tell you that they are PERFECTION, and I mean P.E.R.F.E.C.T.I.O.N!!! The camera and TV doesn't do them justice, at all!
They look like they're out of a fairy tale  - unreal. There is not a single average looking member, not one of them! Actually, there was not an average looking idol at all that night, even though most of them were not my fave's, I was still awestruck  O.O
Compared to others SuJu has that mature, manly feeling to them - in a totally sexy way! Which was a bit unexpected, because despite their age, it's not that obvious on videos. Even while watching fancams of mubank I still couldn't get THAT feeling that I did while being there.
Also, there is not one innocent person in the group, everyone knows what they have going for them    There are many things that unfortunately don't get caught on camera, all the nuances, facial expressions, winks that can make you swoon on spot. Even BABY-Hae is such a tease! He has that full-time I'm-sexy-and-I-know-it smirk mode that somehow translates into an innocent kid-like smile on camera but has devastating effect in real life    And they have these habits of staring in your direction (with you feeling like he's looking in your eyes) and then pointing at you (Hae did that) after which everyone in your section starts telling stories and writing fanaccounts how such and such looked at her and pointed at her LMAO The boys (ahem, MEN) are such teases.
And their stage and the DANCE! I have no idea how people say they don't have stage presence -__- because they most definitely DO and you can feel all those years of experience. But OMG the dance! Again, you don't get to see on camera exactly how, how to say, solid it is. It's so flowing, and full, and with great formations. Hyuk is not a Dancing Machine for no reason - his every single move is a dance, has the added feel to it.
Sorry Sorry has the most perfect choreo - period. It's unfortunate how we only get to see closeups and chorus part, while beauty of the rest stays unknown to most...

Unfortunately, I can't say much about singing, because I couldn't hear much from so much screaming - myself and everyone around me -__- To tell the truth, I could barely notice which song they were singing (even though I was automatically singing along), because I was so out of it and crazy. I do remember that Miracle was actually the most fun for the live audience - it was a revelation for me lol. I unexpectedly started crying during Miracle - never thought I would - because I was so happy, and then cried again during ending cause I was so sad T_T So if you see a dumb blonde girl in the front row, bawling ugly with her huge-ass hair hanging over the barricade - that's me and you're free to feel secondhand embarrassment for my sake

One more thing - MY BIAS IS PERFECT!!! Ok? He's perfect! (I'm gonna ignore that I have another bias right now, because it brings back that feeling of disappointment T.T) Lee HOTJae is perfect! How can anyone consider him not good looking is beyond me. He is oozing sexiness with everything he does! And he doesn't seem that skinny at all, strangely he looked a lot thinner on fancams, in fact he looks good - good enough to eat     And when he took off the jacket, ugh, bless that black almost nonexistent shirt! ......We know we're all perverts here so I'm just gonna say the truth:
I SAW HIS NIPPLE IN REAL LIFE!!
There, I said it and I regret nothing

There were more things happening at the concert, and a lot more to the whole Kpop-fangirl experience of the weekend, but I don't want to write an essay (eve though I already did T__T) so if you want, I can write those as well

P.S. There were also some weird things as well, not to say negative. Like, even if you're in the middle of happenings, there's still a lot you don't see or know or understand. For example: What happened to those 7 songs? Why did they perform even less than on other MuBank tour concerts? What in the world happened to Siwon and those fanaccounts of fans seeing him in Istanbul? Also, if you watch the vids you might think that's it's not blue sea - and you'll be right..... only because we didn't have lightsticks or a place to get them. Only those who had ordered official ones in the past had them. When the time came for fanclub representatives to bring some goods, it turns out that ELF couldn't get blue ones ...so they were selling what they had  - the yellow lightsticks (just glowsticks, not official ones) for FT Island T_T I didn't want to get that, even though they offered me one, and one kind ELF who had a spare glowstick gave me one. Well, at least they were selling shirts and balloons lol

Well, anyway, it was the best day and I can tell more about my experience if you're interested :)

Oh god.. this was so nice to read. I'm so happy for you. & I don't really watch fancams but now I want to go look for you.

seriously there are many songs in 5th jib that could have been title tracks: Mr Simple (which is already the title track), Opera, Andante, Y, Be my girl, Walkin'

seriously that album could have been really amazing if it wasnt for filler tracks like White christmas, good friends and oops

really why do those tracks even exist? the album+repack have 17 freaking songs ffs, they definetely could have done without those 3 tracks, they could have done w/o Feels good too

even the main ballad of the album aka Memories (i refuse to consider Storm the main ballad of 5jib ) is amazing, it is one of SJ's best ballads period

:unimpressed:

Um hello fellow E.L.F...um I think I should introduce myself...Well I'm a huge fan of SuJu like all of you...hehe,aren't our oppas the best?I like to pretend that I'm their number 1 fan...but that's probably not true but I seriously love them and E.L.F but I cannot really express it.Of course I love everyone in SuJu but my ultimate bias of all time is obviously Heenim~I don't know what else to say...but I hope I can contribute something~Also can anyone tell me what SuJu has been doing these past few days? And how do you feel about people saying SuJu should disband...?Also...why didn't you guys ask me to join?TT

Hailo! Welcome to the thread. What an awesome ultimate bias you have. My bias is YeKyu. :]

I'm a bit of a fail fan so I can't answer the first question. (orz) I feel that people care too much about a group they think is crap. There's really no reason for them to disband imo. SFS sold a ton last year, they make a lot of money off of their concerts, etc. Also.. all of their releases in 2013 were rather awesome. (er give or take a few songs depending on preference). And I have no answer for the last question. =x

Aww, thanks! LOL Fortunately, I haven't seen myself in fancams yet - only my balloon, though I'm afraid I might appear as one of those 'crying fans' on broadcast since I was standing in the front row OTL I did see the back of my head, my hair, in that KBS report where they showed the line for the VIP entrance, I was standing in the very second line ^^

hehe ok. I'll start how we met them at the airport. Majority of us were ELF, of course (though FT Island had a LOT of fans there and at the concert as well) but everyone decided to chant Music Bank Istanbul and every artists name so that the others wouldn't feel unwelcome lol The wait was kind of funny, with all the random people coming out and either getting scared or jokingly waving at us lol some were even trying to understand why we were there and read our placards - but they were in Korean, so they got even more confused ^^ We were expecting SuJu to come out last or smth so were a bit relaxed. Then when all the reporters and cameramen gathered to the point where they started blocking our view, the door opened again and all hell broke loose! It was hysterical! We (the ones standing a bit down the line) were tiptoing, craning our neck asking Who is it? Who is it??!! The reaction was TOO loud for it to be another group. Suddenly, the sea of reporters parted in the middle and for the first time I saw an idol live and I swear I had a very pathetic moment of turning into a screeching mess literally like this: 'Who is it?... omg OMG! KAANGIIIIINNNN!!!!' :la:  He was the first one I saw and he was so so handsome!! The bodyguards were blocking my view so I didn't see Shindong or Ryeowook near him. But then they swiftly moved past us and I noticed Hae's floral shirt, and Hyuk's hat and sunglasses and started losing it LOL Then all ELF started running after them! It was crazy, we were jumping over things on our way and all lol Then I looked up and was walking right next to Kyu and Sungmin! With bodyguards between us of course. And Hyuk was nearby - it was unbelievable.

After escorting SJ they brought out other idols, but I was too shocked for that. Later, when everyone was either crying, hugging, or sharing experiences, I was sitting with this ELF from Iraq watching what she had filmed. She is a hardcore Siwonest (poor girl, she was so sad when Siwon didn't appear :( ) and has a YT account named Jaejoong Siwon ELF smth if I'm not mistaken, you might have seen her fancams, we were standing next to each other on the concert. So we were sitting there and I just looked up for a second and had to double take: there was this very good-looking Korean guy, walking all by himself in sunglasses and black outfit, he then joined another guy and they were escorting a huge pile of luggage. And I was like: "Isn't that Prince Manager???" The girl said she didn't think so, but I was almost convinced it was him so we got up and casually starting walking next to him, and YES! That was him! He was just walking through the airport still full of fans and NOBODY was noticing him! I felt like I won a jackpot LMAO That guy is something! He is extremely attractive and holds himself like a rockstar haha He has his almost arrogant posture, not even noticing you, but a the same time doesn't get angry and allows you to take pics and videos of him - which my friend did ^^

That night we (a small group) wanted to stay outside the venue, but the guards wouldn't allow us. It was so funny, you could see girls getting turned away and leaving the venue left and right XD We came back at 5am and there were already a few girls - VIP and Platinum sections, so I got to be the 5th VIP ticketholder to enter the venue! The following day was so damn tiring!! I thought I would die and didn't want anything anymore LOL It's like a battlefield, with all the fans trying to sneak their way to the front of the line until the organizers put up the official barricade and we got our spots in the real line. We took photos for the usual Yesung project - the one he always shares on Twitter during SS5's - and for Teuk project. Not sure if they appeared somewhere. At one point while we were getting ready to put up barricades lined up in front of the door, there was a muffled sound of music coming out, sound of the rehearsal. A representative came out and once she opened the door you could clearly hear Miracle and since we were standing in front of the door - which was in front of the stage - we got to see a glimpse of two members, up to their neck, both thin, one wearing a white Tshirt and another a black tracksuit (I think it was Hyuk). Those of us in front couldn't contain our scream so the fans from back started running over, getting all chaotic, with us trying to push them back to their places - so dramatic haha  Anyway, it was really hard, I can't imagine how ELF in Peru camped for a whole month   :twitch:

When we FINALLY got to enter, and they played the same MV's over and over again, the concert started. The groups started appearing one by one on the main stage so we were looking up waiting for the next one, when suddenly I looked straight ahead and Kikwang was standing right in front of me! It was so shocking I screamed right at him and the poor guy jumped a little and had such a face for a second then laughed lol He was real pretty though^^ Beast went up the stage and after that I totally freaked out because after them Kangin, Ryeowook, Sungmin and Shindong followed and they just stopped and stood there, right in front of me, almost within arm's reach, just standing there smiling and waiting for their turn to go up!!! It was surreal! (After the concert and after calming down, I did realize that all my biases - except Siwon - were actually standing and coming out from other side of the moshpit OTL But hey! What right do I have to complain?!)

What I was not happy about is that fact that the whole upper part of the stadium was practically totally empty :( The odd number of people here and there got together in the center for about two rows and the rest was empty... not a pretty sight... maybe that's why the boys didn't do thumb kiss, I don't know... I hope they weren't disappointed T_T

To be totally honest, being an only ELF and being in Kpop just for them, I had a hard time waiting for their turn. The participants were groups that I don't usually listen to, especially females. And the whole hall was singing along with the songs that I was hearing for the first time - embarrassing, I know  :._.:

Then our boys came out and I couldn't feel the pain in my legs anymore, I couldn't feel tiredness, everything I went through was totally worth for that moment!! What I'm especially thankful for is: when others performed, they did 1 song on main stage and then intro+3 songs on the front stage - which you could not see from my spot, at all! Next to me was a MBLAQ fan who cried because of frustration. But SuJu did 90% on the main stage! Only during Miracle and ending song they went to the front and even during then some members would stay behind and spread to cover all areas - real professionals.

At one point Donghae the tease came down to our side and touched our hands ASDFDFJAJ! At first he just came down to the side, or more like jumped down - it was a weird move I didn't quite see well lol - then he looked over at us, took pity and came to the front, went to the very end of the moshpit and then back and up the stage! The ELF from Iraq has the fancam of him going up already - you can see how close he was!! He really is small haha

During ending song they threw 4 (I think) huge blown up balls with Korean and Turkish flags to the audience - basically on our heads - Sungmin and Leejoon were standing in front of us and they directed a red one at us, me and a couple of others reflected it and threw it back up to them and Sungmin had this playful "OH! You didn't just do that! OK then" face and threw it back on us but suddenly one of the stage props in front of us activated - it was throwing gold confetti with a strong gust of air so the balloon got stuck in that air stream and was just suspended midair. We were trying to jump up and dislodge it but couldn't reach it, while Sungmin and Leejoon were laughing their asses off at the whole situation and pointing at it for everyone XDDD

At the end, as always, SuJu were the last man standing. They led everyone for the ending bow, then when others left did the group bow, said goodbye at every part of the stage and left with Hyuk throwing a "See you at Super Show" over his shoulder! Way to get you intrigued and restless LMAO

In the end, even though their performance seemed a bit shorter than usual, without Oppa Oppa and Bonamana unlike Chile and Jakarta (how I hoped to see Oppa Oppa!), it was still perfect! When they had SS5 in South America I was feeling a bit sad for ELF because of the changes in the setlist, but now I realized that when you see them for the first time it doesn't matter AT ALL what they choose to sing, you'll still lose your head just watching them on stage!

Well, this was VERY long, sorry T_T I tried putting down everything I remembered and haven't mentioned before and it turned out to be a lot OTL

LOL.. there's a good possibility you will end up as one of those fans then. I anticipate your debut. xP

Again.. this is all so adorable to read. And I'm so happy for you. Thank you for writing so much. <3

and omg.. how cute at lee joon & sungminnie.

  • 3 weeks later...

edit: ^ 3 - oppa oppa. and um.. i'll have to get back to you on the other one.

I just wanted to say, I love this group sfm.

I've been going back and watching old music videos and old performances. And since I haven't listened to them for a while.. it's like falling in love over again. Idrc if people think they're talentless or that all of their songs sound the same (lolno). I genuinely enjoy their music and them in general.  :chu:

About that songs sounding the same thing.... I can get why it would be considered SJ Funky but is it just me or does Mr Simple not sound like a rehash of Sorry Sorry?

And for the first time since he enlisted.. I missed Yeye. (does that make me a bad cloud orz)

you can answer all the questions or some of them, you can also ignore the duscussion or just watch it like how people such as Lulu, Zati and Yasmin usually do aka complain about the thread being dead all the time but never do anything about it  -_-

--------------------

anw i'll answer my own questions first

what do you think of SJ's stages in 2013?

SJ's stages in 2013 are absolutely amazing, i am liking these extensive vaccations and breaks they are having because the rest and relaxation are reflecting beautifully on their performances.

do you like their new stage persona?

yes i do, they are showing more confidence and they look more comfortable with their own skin on stage

do you see any improvement?

their singing definitely did improve, just watch any It's you performance from 2009 and then watch the TD It's you and you'll see how much they improved. and the fact they can excute such a perfect performance even w/o the backbone of It's you and the main and bigger contributor to its greatness aka Yesung only shows how much they improved. i dont think they could have done the same thing did Yesung enlist a couple of years ago.

who are the members that improved the most?

i think Wook and Sungmin improved the most. they used to be the weaker loop in SJ's stage presence, they used to shy away from the stage and look down right uncomfortable and awkward at times but now they look just so natural and accustomed to the stage and the audience as if it was a part of them, or are they a part of it? no the stage IS a part of them because they are greater than the stage itself  :hurr:
Eunhyuk's singing improved aswell.

who are the stagnant members?

hmmm, Eunhyuk's dancing is stagnant, i hope if he could surprise me but he doesnt, atleast he doesnt disappoint me
also Siwon, he is just the same, he didnt improve since the last time he improved which was like ages ago but atleast he isnt going backward.

who are those who took a step backward?

Donghae. sometimes he sounds down right bad, and sometimes he doesnt even sing his lines at all or lipsync them when everyone is singing live which is really sad because he sounds just fine at other times. he lacks consistency and at this point i think he sounds bad more than he does sound fine and i am afraid if he doesnt step up his game he'll start sounding bad all the time.

what are the things you want them to change? to work on?

their dancing, at times (like in the Incheon kpop wave festival) they showed an amazing syncronization and energy which means they are able of doing that, now the problem is that they dont do that all the time and i want them to try and work on themselves to be consitenty as good.

are you annoyed at any members for something they did/are doing?

Shindong, i am annoyed at the fact i caught him halfassing some dances/moves in ss5 fancams and TD broadcast. dear Shindong, out of all people in SJ, halfassing dancing shouldnt be something you do, you are way better than that and i know it must be really hard for you to always give your 110% when you barely get any credit for anything good you do but that doesnt mean you should stop giving your all. you contribute to SJ's dance formation alot and that's why it shows when you slack off.

what do you like the most from them in 2013?

their interaction with fans and the way they engage their audience, all those random noises they make while performing w/o ruining what they are doing, how funny and interesting and most importantly natural and comfortable their moves on stage when they are not dancing are, and the growing musicality Wook and Kyu are showing in the way they are changing some of their lines/notes the way they please. it is all so endearing to watch

:horror:

But I generally don't have anything to add.. or think that my opinions come off dumb.

That's sad. He sounded great in Mr Simple lives (imo) so I wonder what happened.

If that's true then I'm really disappointed in him. He doesn't get a chance to shine much. He really shouldn't be half assing it.  :soul:

I'm thinking Blue World is either going to be cheesy, something about covering the whole world with sapphire balloons, or Superman-ish, or something sad.

Hae got praises for his lives on SFS too I remember. There was one from music bank or mnet countdown or something that I remember distinctly that ppl were saying how stable his voice was even though he was dancing? Was it this one?

http://youtu.be/FPSaJ87nlMg

Really?? Wow, I remember seeing comments saying that he sounded horrible.

Your sig! :ahmagah:  I can't say that I have SNSD bias, byt Hyo and Sunny are my favourites!

/CACKLES FOREVER.

#confession time - because I'm bored and thread is dead

- I love Spy and idg why so many ELF dislike it, I thought it was retro/cool and I loved their outfits and the dance version MV so much.
- I thought Kangin was much cuter when he was heavier.  But he's much hotter now.  I just prefer his cute chubby face from before over the more chiseled look now.

Same.

I disliked Spy at first but it grew on me.

are you know? is this the first time you listen to SJ? lol jk

anw i agree with what u said about Mr SImple and i said the same a while ago. what does really sound like a rehash of SS is Bonamana. it has the same exact structure:
-opened by Siwon
- minwook prechorus
- longer chorus
- Yesung + Kyu bridge
- dance break at the end

Mr Simple is so different

Why yes I am, hello person I have never met before.

I agree with you. [MS] I didn't think it did when I first heard it but listening again now, just really confused.

It's obviously a cover of this.  :hurr:

I would be so amused.  :har:

I'm a big fan of James Bond films and espionage films in general so maybe it's the influence of the tuxedos/sunglasses/hotness and really nice choreo imo for dance version (LOVEEEE the Kyu/Ryeo jacket switch), but Spy is on my regular playlist.  My non-kpop-listening friends tend to like it the best out of all the title tracks too for some reason.

That could be.. The choreo is fantastic. Really? I wouldn't think that would be one non-kpop listeners would like.

Not for SFS. I distinctly remember everyone praising him for how well he sang and he didn't sound tired.

Maybe it was a different member?

Anyways, I'm here. /and have nothing of value to add to the thread so I will just post this awkward gif of Kangin humping Donghae.

^?

Congratulations to all the posters who have gotten tickets. I hope you have a good time whenever you go and comeback and post a fanaccount or at least tell us how much you enjoyed. ^.^

About the Hangeng issue.. I became a fan after he left but I went back and grew to like him from old things. It's sad that he left but SJ and him are both doing fine. So I don't care about anything else. Parts of the translation akp did were a bit odd to me..  but since it was mistranslated.. no issue there.

Hi thread.... BLAST FROM THE PAST!!!

tumblr_mt3dkvKkim1qbnykoo2_250.gif

Old ahjumma posters should know who this is *coughcough* And newer posters, hai thar, I am the ahjussi obsessed ahjumma Auta.

The sudden block on guest viewing made me make this account.... :donthinkso:  Not intending to post much, just lurking around....

Congratulations btw to all who got their tickets to SS5. It will be a blast (from personal experience).

And now see you all :chu:

Hello to all the new posters. I'm Ross. I don't really post in this thread much because there is a lack of comeback.  :soul:

this makes me emotional because SMs teasers are always great and I will never forgive them for lying to us all with Mr. Simple teaser video.

Welcome back :P.

If I would have been a fan at the time, I would have been so disappointed by Mr Simple's teasers.

Oh god

I find this very adorable.

Kekeke Ah, the joys of living in Taiwan~ I can walk into a shop and buy oppars' albums w/o worrying about S&H \o/

Jealous.

Shipping makes me weep.

Did we talk about this yet? What is le Onion talking about?  [P.S. Is onion masculine or feminine in French?]

Since it's him, it's more than likely referring to SNSD.

Yes JYasmin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> wall >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> thousands of walls >>>>>>>>>>>>> zillions of walls >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everything in the world

truthful ohno~  :stare:

You know who doesn't get enough lines: Shindong. This kid deserves more lines and more dance breaks.

Unfortunately he has to compete with my stupid bias for both of those and considering Hyuk's popularity, I feel like SM pushes him to do more than he even cares. Hyuk loves Shindong and would probably easily share but too many fans only want to see the anchovy =___=

ALL HAIL SHINDONG OPPPPPAAAAAAAA

I was a little sad when he got no lines in SFS.  :._.:
