ayasha 929 Posted May 13, 2013 Share Posted May 13, 2013 I have one thing in my mind which I want to discuss with you guys.This is not a happy topic, but because of enlistments I have been thinking about this a lot. How long you think SJ's career will be? How long SM will keep them? And after that, could they still manage to be together? Would SM keep part of them like subgroups? Would they do their own smaller groups, solo careers with another company? Or would they do what Shinhwa did? Choose acting, being dj or disappear? I've been thinking about this a lot because two years military service is very long time in young peoples life, when they could spend this time with their career, when people still have interest about them. There will be still a lot new enlistments and it makes me worried that when the youngest finally come back, oldest of them are kinda old if you are thinking about that there is coming younger and younger idols all the time. How long there will be enough people who buy SJ's music? When SM will start to focus on younger boys? What is the length of boys contract? If Hangeng had 13 years long contract... Would SM be willing to write them new contracts? Please share me your thoughts and information you have, I don't know much about this things. I'm Riikka. sj boys signed new contract in 2010 for 5 years so to the 2015 and I have doubt that they will renew with Sm, they recently complained more and they are not stupid and they see what's going on.... Thank you Magda for this information. I'm pretty sure too that they will consider what is the best decision to make in their future. i was thinking about this too alot but havent an answer. SM is not someone who let people go easily (like we know). so i guess they will ever try to force them to make a new contracts, as long as they make money. As long as there will be ppl who want hear SJ SME will never let them go, and even if not as Band there are MCing, and Shows. I heard that Shinee Onew have something like "life"-contract, (not officially o/c), (i guess Jjong too), that means SME will kind of never let them go.. So i think that for some SJ members it meant the same. and its not like SME want only start to concentrate on younger groups, they do it the whole time, (Shinee, EXO) Yeah it might be like this. But it's not good if SM lost interest in them and just stick with them and don't promote them properly. I'm sure SM wants to keep them now, but what about after 5 years? Hi Shay! Welcome to the thread. I'm Danny~ ^^ I don't know how long their career will be. I think it depends on whether the members renew their contracts with SM in a couple of years or not (all of them). I think if some members choose to not to renew then... uh, no more SJ? But that said, I do think they'll stick together. I'll get back to this point later. SM doesn't seem to like the subgroup idea so I don't know if they'll keep working with it unless they're forced to (if members leave - and even then I think they'll largely stop with the music making). Hell, the only one they promote regularly is SJ-M and that's barely become a biennial thing where their promotions are minimal. I don't see any member going solo under SM at all. It doesn't feel like SM would keep members for them to go solo, they might for acting/DJing/MCing but not for anything musical. I just feel like the company has become lazier with all their older groups and that they don't want to exert any effort promoting them. Promoting a solo artist requires more work than housing an actor or MC. That is, of course, unless SM gives total musical control to the artist and that's not going to happen unless you're BoA. Back to the earlier point, I'd want them to pull a Shinhwa. I want them to leave the company and do their own thing. SM doesn't seem to know what to do with them. The company keeps rehashing dance songs for the group in a futile attempt to attract the younger fans but it's obvious that the boys aren't really feeling the music they're promoting. A-cha and Spy (and SFS to an extent) had the most severe case of "I don't want to be doing this" vibe from the boys. I think that if this discontent were to continue during promotions in the future, that this is what might cause the end of the group. If the members who are more musically inclined and main career is 'Singer' aren't interested, then how about the members who have a side job like acting or MCing? Leaving SM might also allow more freedom to promote as they wish. Like doing the whole subgroups thing instead of waiting for members to come back when they're on military duty. I can't even imagine how slow the years would be once the 86-line enlists. SM would literally not do anything with the group for 2 whole years. Instead they would promote members individually as MC and DJ as if the group doesn't already have an identity issue with its entertainment side overshadowing its musical side. Again, this period of doing nothing essentially is what might end SJ if its vocalists are not interested in risking their career. People will keep buying SJ's music as long as they're promoting correctly. SJ should stop trying to appeal to young fans completely. This demographic is already being targeted by countless younger groups who frankly do it better. Why would a 13 year old girl go for the older group with ancient members by K-Pop idols standards, when the adorable B1A4 (yes they're adorable)/Boyfriend/TeenTop are there promoting with the intention of capturing her heart also? All these groups sing and dance, but at the end it all comes down to appeal and a pre-teen isn't going to go for an ancient model of an idol group when they have a cuter, shinier and more adorable model at hand. SJ's only job now is to try and maintain its ageing fandom. The people who are more inclined to buy their music are the people who have grown with the group, so alienating them by appealing to a younger demographic is going to cause fans to leave. If they do do this, they'll promote a different style of music which will appease both the boys and the maturing fans, and might just open up a whole other demographic for the boys to appeal to which hadn't been there before (like maybe the actual public). Holy... WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF? Sorry guise... Should I spoiler? Spoiler-ing~ Danny I love your long answer <3 It seems that boys want to stick together. I agree that SM probably wouldn't keep them as solo singers, or maybe one of them who can make most of money? I really hope too that someday the whole group would leave SM, stick together and keep making music the way they really want to. Shinhwa is doing good and they seem to be so happy, I would love to see SJ like this too when they all are +30 years old. I really can't think about how things will be when more of them goes to army. This makes me think that does SM want's to stick with all of them when this happens, so many enlistments still left. It's kinda unfair if rest of them just get to be forgotten, I really hope that they can do music if they want to. I'm glad that my Boyfriend fan friends like SJ too, but when years will be pass, this might not be the situation anymore. Music is important thing and they should be able to do this kind of music what they really love. SJ need to keep doing shows together, people will love them more when they can see their personality. -I quoted you Riikka but it didn't go...Anyways: Do I think the boys will renew their contracts if they are asked? Probably. I am so conflicted on this. I feel that some of the members will want to while others won't. I just hope whatever they decide, will not cause riffs in the members. They have to take the votes of those in the military at the time too. I dunno. I feel in the end, they will all end up signing the contract to SM again. (I mostly hope they don't. I think it's time for them to expand and grow AWAY from the company.) The hardest part here is the future of each of the members. Will people want them to for for their company? SJ is not as loved in Korea as other countries, so does that play a part in the members getting requests from other places once they leave the SM power connections? SM restricts SJ from doing what they have in mind a lot of the times but, they let them loose with the SS5 setlist and tour, which could mean that they might stay with SM if they let SJ keep being able to be more independent. Sorry. I keep rambling so I will stop here but, I just want whatever the boys want and, I think a lot of them want to move on with their lives and try to get married etc without SM breathing down their backs, but in the end, they will probably stay with SM. EDIT: Image limits, when they are all quotes....GRRRR. Some of them probably want to go other direction in the future, don't stick with the SM... I really hope that they could do what they want and still improve as singers and performers. I think that SM will not keep them when they are 40 years old, I hope that some of them still keeps doing music, Sungmin needs a band if he wants, Kyuhyun and Ryeowook probably never would stop singing. I just want that they could be as good and creative as they want to be, then they need some freedom too.
