Why you think it was interesting :)

I haven't taken a look at it yet (and even then I'd only be able to get general meaning with what I know language-wise), but given the genres of music that they occupy, I imagine that Ichiro could probably ask some questions that a normal interviewer might not consider.

Sorry for the late reply.

After listening to the album several times and letting it kind of sink in, I have to say your review is pretty spot-on. Some of the tracks surprised me. "Utopia" being one of them. I would not have thought of throwing all those elements together to make a coherent song, yet Yuzu does it well. The album also gives off pretty strong imagery that fits the title, which is a big accomplishment. Overall a very enjoyable album.

Some favorite tracks: Hikare, Yorokobi no Uta, Utopia (as strange as this song is  ), Sugao no Mama de, Ultra Lover Soul, Hidamari, Mamotte Agetai

Tis fine!  Yeah, having listened to the album a few more times, I have to say that "Utopia" and "Retro Future" have actually grown on me a fair bit.  Once I knew they were coming, it was kind of much easier to enjoy them.  xD  I think that on the whole, Shinsekai is a stronger album than LAND, even if it lacks the incredibly bombastic title track that that record had (albeit, Retro Future is kind of the de facto title track for Shinsekai).  Still, it's a really solid and not complacent effort by Yuzu, so good on them!

As to the album's theme/meaning, I feel that it can be looked at in multiple ways:  in terms of society at large, more personally, and in the case of Yuzu's musical style and all the changes it's gone through.  At least, that's what I'm getting from it.

Definitely my favorite album released thus far this year, though I expect that it'll have plenty of competition for that title in the coming weeks.

OMG, if I got the right article, it seems as if my words are coming to fruition...

^This is what they picked - a nice jazz-influenced ballad.  Also the ending theme to that controversial Ashida Mana drama, so it's probably gotten a fair amount of additional airplay from that.  I really like it (and its PV) though.

Ohh ok... Ohh, in case you didn't see it, Yuzu is on that Kyary show I posted. It's subbed.

Or ... if I'm reading that right (I hadn't really looked too far into the article) Akai Koen MIGHT be double-featured for March with Kotringo - I'd wait for Mandi's translation to say for sure, but that seems to be where that's going.  And yeah - I'll likely watch it at some point later today.

Why brag though? Let the work speak for itself. If you're going to brag about something, brag about talent or musical ability or something like that. Not the fact that the act you stan whose success is built off of non-musical things sells a lot.

To me, my interest in J-music and my interest in the commercial side of the market tend to be two different things entirely.  I enjoy music for the music, and enjoy looking at sales and figures solely from an economic perspective, since I find the way the market works interesting.  Sure, I'll be happy if an artist I like does well, but more than that ... it's really two totally different areas and should in my eyes remain that way.

it's already been a crazy past couple of weeks with the amount of releases too.

Yeah, February and March have been really busy this year (even though they're usually pretty busy).  However, this coming week is particularly interesting since there are 3 albums (Bump, Atsushi, and ABC-Z, plus MAN WITH A MISSION) that'll actually SELL, which we haven't had in a pretty good while.

is it just me or is gyrobot a troll who doesn't know much.

He's extremely bias towards Korea and is honestly convinced that Japan is incredibly xenophobic to a point bordering on being cartoonishly evil.  I skimmed the thread he linked and he acted the same way until a mod there forcibly closed it last week.  It just looks like he's looking for a new place to air his dirty laundry.

Brian the Sun and Bump of Chicken. I liked the other two as well but felt BtS and BoC had more replay value.

Speaking of BoC, which in your opinion is better: Zero or Ray?

That's ... a tough call, since they're two really different songs.  Not to mention that they're both pretty different songs for them to begin with.  Stylistically, I think I prefer Zero's arrangement just because of how lush and involved it is, but I think that "ray" is stronger lyrically and certainly not a weak song in its own right.  I think ray has more replay value as well, given that it's around 2 minutes shorter and is probably easier to describe as "catchy" than Zero.  I might give slight edge to Zero, but it is close.

Honestly, I just recommend taking a listen to their new album if you get a chance - RAY is good and I've found myself replaying a lot of its songs over the past couple of days.

I plan on seeing if I can do every one for the JRock battle because I be crazy like that, thankfully I am more familiar with some of these bands so I the hardest ones for me would BoC and RAD and probably Sakanaction

I was going to handle Bump in the original setup, so if you still want me to take and poll scores for them, I can.

That would work if we had someone who really knows each act in question - though, I'd say best selling/most known and also one spot reserved for their most recent release.  That way we're also looking at the artist now and not just at the height of their career.

Basically. It is really interesting to see people post Kpop in this thread and be 1000 times more civil about it than when I browse th k-side.

 hahahaha This should be his sig. It's perfect!

It's slightly too big of an image, or I might actually consider it.  I can guarantee that the latter image looks nothing like me though xD  I do look my age pretty much, if not a little bit younger.  What a confusing picture that must paint...
