Some BTS fans told us that they're only being proud of how well their group is doing in Japan and they're not saying BTS is popular or big in Japan, but then all these threads start coming up about how BTS are dominating and conquering Japan...

So what is the truth?

I dunno but think twice will do quite well in japan.

I can't really predict how well TWICE will do with their Japanese debut. How are their fans defining success? Selling 100k of the debut album? Getting the #1 spot on the Oricon weekly (though this one they definitely won't get because of Kanjani8)? All I know is that they're releasing only 3 versions of the album, but I don't know if there's going to be more gimmicks attached, like lottery tickets.

I think japanese will like the cute choreo. They already hv a bit of exposure in msute. Since they hv japanese members, it would be easier to communicate with japanese fans. Their TT song seems to be doing fine with LINE streaming. I dont know how their fans define success. We'll just hv to wait ne. If they use the lottery method like bts, i wonder if they will get the same range of sales numbers like them.

On the Line music chart, the songs there & digital charts vary quite a bit ne. Saw many English song in Line. Is it because of age demographic?

If there's going to be lottery tickets probably not as aggressive as BTS'. TWICE is releasing an album with only 3 versions, and each album is already at least 3x the price of a single. While BTS released a single with like 5 versions, and the price of a single is much cheaper than album.

If TWICE do get around 100k-200k with the gimmicks, I can see their fans will definitely still overhype them despite not getting #1 though.

Do it sis! Show them!

In other news, Arashi fans are really upset about EXO using the penlight technology xD they won't stop talking about it.

Johnny's fans as usual lol. Though some complaints make sense. I've seen some EXO fans claiming that they're the first ones to do it and that their oppas are pineers etc etc and of course, we all know that's not true.

I feel like these days I'm not listening to anywhere near the amount of J-acts I used to listen too and be invested in, when I want to hear music, I'll just turn on Spotify and listen to Western Content, I go through these phases a lot. laugh.png

Yeah i havent been listening to much Japanese music lately either. mostly Western haha.

On the contrary, I have been enjoying THE ORAL CIGARETTES and ULFULS' latest works these days.

And then this new band comes along, making me extremely curious!

CQCQ is strangely addictive, luring me in. But also, there's something familiar about this band that I can't put my words yet now.

a-nation is an embarrassing mess. And Avex are going to try to squeeze in some of the bigger live names even when they're all so damn busy, so that they can at least ensure full house, just like what they did for the past few years. Like, they were relying on a Kpop group last year but the stadium didn't sell out, so they had to fill in a spot for Acid Black Cherry just so that more people would attend. So much 'fun'.

That WINNER thread was funny ngl.

Also, I really feel like I need to bring back Jpop 101 thread and have it pinned for these new Jpop fans. Sadly, my knowledge for the idols besides Arashi is non-existent so I may need some help with that.

I can help with Kanjani8 and a few other Johnnys, or a bit about Johnnys in general.

It's actually how to find content for Jpop newbies xD if you guys can give me a list of where you find news, PVs, or whatever, that would be wonderful thanks ^^

A lot of the peeps keep complaining about how hard it is to find stuff. *looks at my list of 8 video sites*

Okay I'll try to get my list up for Kanjani8 and I'll PM you. :)

Name ikemen under the age of 25.

Nakajima Yuto, Yamada Ryosuke, Nakajima Kento, Sota Fukushi, Suda Masaki, Yamazaki Kento (even if I don't like him I can agree that he's an ikemen), Nomura Shuhei, Takeuchi Ryoma...Just on top of my head, and these are all leading actors in their works. I haven't even touched the supporting actors who have had significant roles yet. (And you shouldn't just limit under 25 because there are quite a number of newer actors who started acting and only got their major roles after 25 like Dean Fujioka, Sakaguchi Kentaro and Inoo Kei).

*blame it on me watching at least 10 Jdramas out of 40+ dramas aired per season and sometimes half of what I watch aren't even subbed*

Too true.

BTW Suda Masaki needs to release more music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aeRjU19VtE

People are saying he sounds like Bump of Chicken.

Do you agree?

Sounds like BOC and the music is somewhat RADWIMPS-ish. But that's not too bad IMO, considering it's his first release.

oh my fucking god looooool

But honestly not surprising. Pretty sure Twice are debuting under UMJ. iirc Gouriki Ayame was also releasing under UMJ at her peak. UMJ acts seem to typically be the gori oshi of the industry

I thought Twice signed with Warner Music, not UMJ? Pretty sure that's what I read from one of the thread titles.

Really, if they actually want to genuinely find out what's popular in Japan among the general public, there should be screening questions first, like what professionals do with their surveys. For example:

1. Have you heard of Kpop or do you know Kpop? If yes then to the next question:

2. Do you know or have you heard of these Kpop groups? If yes then to the next question:

3. Are you a fan of these Kpop groups?

And if they're asking specifically for Twice, then the next question would probably be, have you heard of Twice or do you know Twice?

It isn't being counted on Korea's Gaon Album Chart because the Korean Music Content Industry Association, the compiler of Gaon's data, cites "copyright law that sees an album as a physical object with music." GD's USB doesn't actually contain the music, it has links to download the music, so it doesn't fall under their definition of an album.

Ah so that's why.

any thoughts on Twice making their JP debut on Music Station?

Lucky they have Japanese members probably.

And as Midna says, their fans will be the most annoying bunch next week.

On the other hand, their 'rivals' in the albums chart will be performing next week too, so I wonder if they'll show the albums chart or something.

There's also super-rookie Keyakizaka46 next week, and veteran Harada Tomoyo appearing after so many years. So on the Japanese side, TWICE's appearance won't probably be much hyped. Can't say the same with OH-ers though.

Anyway, have all the threads popped up? I haven't been to Random section yet.

WATTT??? Twice is so popular in Japan they bypassed the Kpop ban!!!!1!!!1!!!11

Yeah as if there's a ban on Kpop in the first place lol.

But also, somebody mentioned that even if Warner is not that powerful, Burning probably has a hand in pulling the strings. Which means, expect TWICE to win Best New Artist at this year's JRA yay!

Docu! laugh.png

I saw Dentsu being brought up on a Japanese forum. Some of you may know but for those who don't, it's a huge advertisement company that has power over the media. For example (Source):

ã€Dentsu's share percentage】

TBS 59.4%

NTV (Like Zip the morning show that faked the news that Twice had a recognition of 80%) 42.9%

Fuji (Like Mezamashi TV that reported about Twice for ~10 minutes) 50.7%

TV Asahi (like Music Station) 38.6%

Bungei Shunju 27%

Shukan Bunshun 25%

Shukan Shincho 28%

Yomiuri Newspaper 22.5%

Mainichi Newspaper 24.1%

The rest are shared by 3000+ companies so...

In the article it says "Dentsu started getting involved with the media after becoming a strong spokesperson for sponsors" and "Dentsu has a lot of control over mass media industry. Especially TV, and stations outside of Tokyo cannot survive without Dentsu. For that reason broadcast stations have no choice but to listen to Dentsu's 'requests'". I don't know if it's as bad as Burning but it's a pretty dark company. Their name became even more well known last year when a woman committed suicide for being overworked. And also because they were said to be involved in the Tokyo Olympic scandal (which most of the media only reported as "the D Company" being involved)

Dentsu even used stealth marketing on 2chan but they were caught because of the IP address. And in 2012 they tried to make the Korean food "Samgyetang" a thing but like the kpop boom, they took it too far so people started getting suspicious. In an anime, they used samgyetang instead of porridge (original manga) and suddenly all morning/noon shows were talking about samgyetang being "super popular" and suddenly a lot of celebrities started posting about eating samgyetang on their SNS. Sound familiar? lol. I don't know if Dentsu is behind Twice but I wouldn't be surprised.

Edit: What a surprise Burning has Dentsu's support/backup.

The more we know!
