IX isn't bad, but the lack of actual characters in your party rather than ones that you build yourself ... hurt the game in my honest opinion. IX isn't bad, but the lack of actual characters in your party rather than ones that you build yourself ... hurt the game in my honest opinion. yes i know that's the main reason why i was hesitant to play it and to play DQ5 instead. But Midna said she loved 9 so i thought i'd try it out. DQ8 is in my top3 rpgs of all time. also if you haven't seen, your partner posted his review of your list in the current tradeoff thread. I can understand why some people can't get into it, but to me it was a large part of my childhood. I really like the world (in that it's actually fairly unique, particularly in the second game) and found the characters compelling. The Djinn system could get tedious or it could be really interesting depending on what you did with it, and it created so many class options and thus so many ways to play the game.
