Funny story though, before it came out, none of my Japanese friends knew the song. So I thought it flopped. But I realized, it's not like everyone in Japan listens to music as actively as us... looking for the songs before they come out. Now that it's out, probably cuz there's a tie-in, my Japanese friends have been tweeting about the song so I think pretty much everyone knows it now.. In terms of my taste in music, it's surprisingly eclectic. I listen to anything from contemporaneous stuff like idols (48G, Johnnys, H!P), female/male soloists like Jpop queens to acts like superfly, numerous rock bands. I also listen to older material from the likes of Akina Nakamori, TM Network (and by extension any Tetsuya Komoro's body of work like trf, namie etc), CHAGE&ASKA and Matsutoya Yumi. So pretty much anything in the mainstream since its incredibly diverse that there's always something to discover every time it overwhelms me sometimes. Based on my profile picture, you can guess that I am a big Southern All Stars fan but they might be a bit too old fashioned for this crowd. I'm also a huuuuge B'z fan so if anyone has anything B'z related stuff to talk about, I'm there. But also have an open mind to discover acts I have never listened before. Billboard japan is the same....but billboard is not too known here..... Welcome. Oh I know that, I've been following Japanese music scene for years. However the article clearly says Tower Records and no mention of Oricon, so there's already the misconception there from Kpop fans. And you and I should know that Tower Records is only one store chain besides other stores that Oricon counts, but BTS is clearly not topping other stores and definitely not Oricon, because Utada does (again). JRA stuff usually ends up appearing next week, or has for the last few years, so we'll find out about that soon enough. I'm waiting to see what happens with JRA within this month. If it's true that the media isn't widely reporting the scandal, I just hope JRA still takes things seriously and gave us more diverse nominations at least. Hopelessly biased insofar as that goes though. If nothing else, Bunshun did give us an inside look into how the JRA is actually supposed to be run, which has shed a lot of light on their criteria, which I've always wanted to know more about. I have many minority friends over in the US (one has just migrated from the Philippines earlier this year) so I'm pretty worried for y'all.
