my b'day was yest it was so uneventful waited in uni from 12-5pm on my friends for them to finish their lab and that they planned a surprise party I couldn't get to attend....

You're welcome! I've had my share of bad birthdays so I know how it must feel. But now I don't even celebrate them

birthday's are just another day to me. A lot of times i forget how old i am because of this and also because after 21 age means nothing.

 

My family doesn't celebrate birthdays or christmas or any holiday really. Closest is Thanksgiving but even then it's just another day except we eat turkey instead of the usual rice + something  :lol:

I'm the same. Last year I completely forgot my birthday was in a week until someone asked me what I wanted to do.  haha :lol:

It depends. For example, it took ayaka and kobukuo 17 hours to record winding road

That thread became a mess instantly. I kind of understand MoreTokyo's recent mini rant on the kpop fans now. Like why even go in the thread just to say "who?" or complain that she has no right to release a message.

But am I wrong for saying that I don't get an international KPop fan being lost at a Japanese singer sending a message to one of her international fanbases? My mind was boggled...

watching a bit of the olympics today and see a korean guy speed skating on the russian team. Didn't know athletes were allowed to just go compete for a different country. That's stupid. Unless he has some tiny russian ancestry or something but that doesn't seem to be the case, i think. 

 

He could just be Russian born korean. But some countries actually do pay athletes from other countries to play for them. I'm not sure if it was the last summer olympics or Beijing, but I know there was a team in like beach volleyball that was paid to play for another country.

i thought that but i did a quick google search and tried to find out but he was born in korea. He competed for the South Korean national team for his whole career but had issues with them and something about them not allowing him to qualify. So he became a Russian citizen because they let him compete. 

 

Kind of defeats the entire purpose of the olympics to me.

I think there is a whole backstory to why he did it and not for the sake of just a medal, tbh if that thread with his backstory is true, I dont blame him and the medal is a deserved slap in the face to Korea's team.

That Yuzuru Hanyu thread freaks me out a bit....

 

I decided to search his tag on tumblr just for the heck of it after seeing him mentioned so much and it's like that thread x 1000. It's kind of creepy. I get the fanboying and fangirling, but I really don't get the anime part. There's way too many depictions of him as an anime character.

aww. I've been watching western shows lately and felt like staring a new jdrama. 

 

Japan needs to get over this detective drama thing they've been obsessed with lately. I could watch tons of those on tv over here already if i wanted to and i don't need to watch a japanese version of them. 

 

There really are a lot of detective dramas out. I never finished the one with Abe Hiroshi and Meisa Kuroki. A lot kind of follow the same pattern, but I shouldn't really complain seeing as I've watched up to like episode 530 of Detective Conan/ Case Closed and that show is really repetitious.

never watched Detective Conan but i've seen probably every Scooby Doo episode and movie haha. 

 

I wish Scooby Doo was on netflix. I'd rewatch it eventhough i know the person behind it is always Red Herring  :lol:

I loved A Pup Named Scooby Doo so much as a kid. 

 

OMG I loved Scooby Doo as a kid and A Pup Named Scooby Doo and all the other little series and cross overs they had. I think there is a new Scooby Doo series on Netflix, but it's nothing like the old ones.

 

But yeah Detective Conan has been ongoing for 20 years and the anime for like 18. I don't know how people can keep up with all of that. That is seriously just milking the series in my opinion. They could give it a proper ending and still do movies or something since I know it's still pretty popular.

I was just looking at in on their yesterday  :lol: but I'm not surprised since they both have decent sized fan bases. It's doing decent on amazon as well.

 

Also somewhat surprised at Utada's numbers. I knew it would sell over 15k because of the deluxe edition, but now I actually wonder how much it will sell now eventhough almost everyone already has that album.

It's Japan, they are very much like the South in terms of thinking, they believe in the same "We will Rise Again". Hell their mangas often gush about how they are better off as a feudal tyrannical regime and how awful it is to be under a democracy and how they should go back to their old ways and sadly they are in control as well.

Because they are bloody apologists to the core, look at UC Gundam's later works such as Stardust Memory and AU Gundam which is blatant Imperial Japan Apologist propaganda along with other stuff which desires a return to the oppressive imperial monarchy.

We should have done what Russia did to Poland as the Warsaw pact: castrate their cultural and nation pride so hard, everything out of their works will be depressing, anti-nationalistic and self condemning.

I agree with you, though. The song is okay and it gets catchier the more you listen to it, but it lacks aggression. They sound really great together when they're harmonizing. I wish the chorus had them doing more of that rather than singing the same thing.

I kinda wish Namie had been allowed to pick the instrumental instead of Ken because she's got a great ear for it, but it is Ken's single, so.

I don't know if the decision to go through all the old seasons of Doctor Who is the best decision I've ever made or the worst. @__@ The writing and acting for a lot of it is amazing, but there's still so much to get through...I've heard more than one person say the same thing. :lol: The instrumentals (Make it happen and Grotesque) are similar in a way. I'm more interested in the PV at this point because of the lyrics.You still haven't finished it? :O

  

Hahah Yeah the instrumentals are really similar. Hope the PVC makes up for the song. A good PV goes a long way.

Also out of curiosity how many jpop as well as fans of japanese dramas, fashion, etc are fans of Kiko Mizuhara. I always see these post about her but it's mostly kpop and big bang fans. It's a little weird.

The Queen's one took forever. I ended up only doing Namie's and Kuu's. That Ayu list was so long so i stayed away from it.

 

If thinking she's pretty and looking up pics of her once in a while counts as a fan, then i am a fan. Never seen any of her dramas/movies except for Helter Skelter though. Her description says singer, and i had no idea she sings. 

I'd probably only make it through RAD and Uverworld. I don't see how people made it though all those especially Ayu and Kuu since they have the larger discographies.

 

I've seen some pics and she doesn't look bad and some vid of her dancing which was funny, but idk some people who constantly post about her don't really seem to know about or really follow her career, but eh to each their own. I had no idea she was a singer either.

It is mostly KPop fans, because of her looks and Big Bang.

That's probably why it feels weird and disingenuous to me. If that's the sole reason they like her and not just knowing her for that and then liking her for what she does.  It might just be the younger mentality that throughs me off.

Sorry for butting in, but what is weird for liking her for her looks. Because first and foremost she is a model. There is no denying that she is very hyped up here because of her relationship to Big Bang. Though I'm pretty sure if there was thread created with pics of Miranda Kerr or Candice people will come over and gush over them aswell.

As for me I've liked her when she was still a model for ViVi, back then she was already one of my faves together with Jun Hasegawa, Marie & Chikako Watanabe. Don't underestimate their popularity, their it-girls in Japan. I think Rola is the trend nowadays with Kiko.

 

 

Anyways I always lurk here, to get some of my daily J-music fix.

 

I think you misunderstood me. I don't think it's weird if people genuinely like her because she is a model and whatever else she does. She has a pretty face and that is her selling point. I don't think there's anything wrong or weird for like her for that. I do however think it's weird if people are only interested in her only because she was/is associated with big bang in a way. Or if some people just like her because she's Korean, I find that weird.

 

I guess with people who just like her since she is Korean, it kind of gives me that whole weird vibe of those people who are like oh I want a korean boyfriend/ gay best friend/ sassy black friend etc. etc. These are just bizarre to me. So I was just curious as to who follows her here. 

 

But I don't think this is true for everyone who likes her and most likely not true for you either. Just a small observation.

Personally I wouldn't mind a male soloist one along with a newer generation of female soloist and rock bands with a female lead. If there was an idol one, I'd definitely have to sit that one out  :lol:
