http://onehallyu.com/index.php?/topic/17391-is-mr-taxi-the-most-famous-jpn-song-by-a-kpop-idol-internationally

It started because someone asked what is the most famous Japanese song by a Korean act internationally and they said SNSD's Mr. Taxi but others were like no it would be an anime song like BoA's Every Heart or TVXQ's Share The World. Then someone said that anime is less well known than KPop so that wouldn't be right.

*eyeroll* I tend to follow the "let the nutjobs be nutjobs" attitude, so if they really want to believe that nonsense, let them.  Will only make them look more foolish.

Sword Art Online had quite a bit of potential to become an interesting and thought provoking series but the execution and delivery of the series was much too inconsistent and flawed. Thoroughly enjoyed the earliest episodes of Sword Art Online but the series continued to fall apart and unravel in such a disjointed and messy manner that didn't sit too well with me. On the other hand, Shingeki no Kyojin caught my attention from the beginning and continues to surprise me at every turn. It's an excellent series and has continuously gotten better. I've become quite selective with the anime that I've watched over the last few years. Psycho Pass has left the strongest impression on me and used it as a thesis for one of my undergraduate courses. Helter Skelter and Utsubora are arriving soon! I've been dying to read them both.

Sword Art Online's anime had a LOT of flaws when it came down to adapting it (it also doesn't help that the first two arcs are the weakest on the whole), but the actual source material (the light novel) is actually pretty strong, especially once you get to the third arc, which is where I feel that the author really comes into his own.  Shingeki no Kyojin is pretty strong, although writing-wise it's currently beaten by at least one series that I'm watching (one that most people probably wouldn't guess at first).  I've gotten fairly selective myself in that I'm looking for series that have a degree of depth to them in most cases:  Psycho Pass was tied for the second best series of its season for me when it came out - in my case, Shinsekai Yori ("From the New World") just hit that much closer to home.

Haven't had much experience with Sword Art Online outside of the anime but wanted to look into the light novel because there are quite a few aspects of the story and ideas being presented that caught my attention about the series. Shingeki no Kyojin is arguably amongst the stronger series that has come out as of late but it isn't my favorite in terms of writing either because there are a few series that catch my attention a bit more. Shin Sekai Yori is brilliant! It's such a thought provoking and deep series that kept me thinking to the end of the series. Psycho Pass caught my attention the most because a lot of the philosophy and ideas that were being offered up directly connected to the work that I was doing during my undergraduate Classical Rhetoric course. Liked it so much that I ended up using it as my thesis for the class. Ha!

The third arc of SAO (Gun Gale Online) becomes ... very dark and psychological, and it deals with a lot of what it means to be a person.  It's my personal favorite arc, honestly (Though Mother's Rosario is pretty close behind).  Yeah, Shin Sekai Yori was clearly a passion project, since you could see just how much care was put into adapting that novel as best they could.  Heh - that reminds me of how I ended up using Umineko no Naku Koro Ni in several English papers while I was reading the visual novel, since things just so happened to line up well.

Vertical Inc. has recently licensed Shin Sekai Yori (Manga)! They've also spoken about the possibility of translating the novel but it is dependent on how well the manga ends up selling. They don't have enough resources or many to translate the novel as of yet but they'll have an opportunity to depending on the sale of the manga.

I'd love a chance to read a translated version of the novel, so here's hoping that the manga does at least decently.

@Ryu (or anyone else than can answer this): What do fans usually shorten Southern All-Stars to in Japanese? Is it "サザン"?

How much is your limit before that happens? o.o

Yeah, fans usually shorten Southern All-Stars to either "Sazan" like you have written there in Katakana, or SAS, so far as I've noticed.

No problem!  And that's not that surprising - a lot of artists in Japan like Sazan, and I've seen reports like that pop up before xD

Did anyone else know that Ayaka was releasing a cover album? :wth:

Preivews/cover here: http://room-ayaka.jp/disco/

There's yet another cover of La La La Love Song. Can people just not cover that song anymore ever? There's just too many already. :omgwtf:  At least the Hikki one isn't First Love (but I still don't like it).

Yeah - I think I posted the previews in here a few weeks back.  A lot of the covers are artists I listen to (and they're pretty different from the usual stuff that gets thrown on a cover album), so I'll probably download this when it gets released.

What are your guy's favorite Ghibli movies?

More interested in your guy's answers because you're not young. Most young people say Spirited Away, which is a great movie but I put other movies above it. I put Laputa, Princess Mononoke, and Nausicaa all above Spirited Away. Haven't seen Grave of Fireflies yet because i'm scared i'm going to cry and never stop because how depressing people say it is.

i would be interested in watching but you said you need to sign up...

Hopefully it'll show up in other video streaming sites later or something.

Princess Mononoke was my favorite until i watched the masterpiece and best animated movie ever made that is Laputa aka Castle In The Sky. That movie is beautiful in every way.  :datass:

Princess Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies, the latter of which ... is just flat out brilliant.  It's ... a movie that I think most people should experience.

Really short preview of Sekai no Owari's new song! it's made for some mystery movie

I'm oddly curious as to what the PV for a song titled "Death Disco" is going to look like.  xD  Nonetheless, interested.  These past two days have been very, VERY good to me music-wise.

Can't believe it's almost October. This year is going too fast. Crossing my fingers for a Flower album before the end of the year.

Feel better :( Drink lots of water and hot tea and stay warm and you'll get better in no time ><

What are you listening to?

Yamashita Tatsuro's "Ray of Hope".  Basically ... his style is somewhere between Funk, Soul, Blues, and Doowop, and he has an amazing voice.  Music might be seen as somewhat old-school, but I'm all right with that personally.  Quality is still through the roof musically.

Any Yuzu fans here cause there's some good news.

Front and center (probably the only Yuzu fan on the forums)!  I was really happy when I saw that yesterday - means that I'll be getting another 4 new songs from them before year's end.  Yuzu have been busy this year, but have still produced some very quality work on all counts despite that.

What the.. I guess she has to start somewhere

Only two more months of the year left and it's looking like Ubu by illion is gonna stay my best album of the year

Kavka, Namie, and Ishizaki Huwie are probably somewhere in my top 10. Sadly most of the "new" albums I listened to weren't from this year

I'd say there's still a chance that RADWIMPS will drop an album in December, especially considering they're doing a livestream on the day their single releases next week - the same day info. on their 2014 Tour releases.  That, and they've already confirmed that an album was in production.

That's good to know. I need to check out their new single too

It's good - Gogatsu no Hae is a nice, upbeat track (very graphic and vicious lyrics though), while Last Virgin is a really nice ballad from them.  Nipponpon is the first song by the band's alter ego, "The Miso Soups" in 7 years, and it's a pretty darn fun song that reminds me a little of Manifesto.

I'm listening to the songs right now and Last Virgin sounds nice so far. Reminds me of me me she and kanashi

That's good! Now I have something to look forward to this year, but will still wait for the official announcement.

It's funny cause the Japanese Olympic Committee released a poll of who should preform and she was #8 but Idk why they even did a poll of who should perform when it's 7 years away. So pointless
