I finally got around to looking at that "Music from Japan" selection on iTunes...the person who put this together really did do their research. These are actual modern and (mostly) relevant artists.

 

 

I'm pretty happy with it (though I hope more artists are included in the future).  Hopefully this interests some people.

^ Same. I wouldn't say he's really huge yet, but he is getting some attention. I haven't listened to his cover album, but I've heard of him at least.

 

Lol I play those because I can at my store, blasting music is a no though considering most of my customers are old.

 

 

I am trying to get through Sabriel, its really good, though every time I start getting into it something distracts me and I have to put it down, post the book in the lit thread though Ièm always looking for new stuff plus I just got a gift card to the book store from a supplier...though he owes me another one

 

I will. The story is set in modern-day Japan with some Japanese mythology mixed in there and it's really good. I'll have to give a better description in the Lit Thread, but everything is done very well (especially for a new author). I should scan some of the art in the book too. It's really beautifully done.

@Wiz Have you played any Ni no Kuni yet? If you have, how is it? Saw a used copy in really good condition today and thought about picking it up, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

yeah I've started playing it but my progress is pretty slow since I don't get that much time. I think it'd be worth it, the art is beautiful which of course You knew already. The only thing I have against it is that sometimes I feel the story progresses slowly, of that could just be not having time to play. I think battle system is cute, but takes a bit of getting used to, and there's tons of things to do besides the main story so it'll keep you entertained for a while.

Hmm...I'll look into it more. It seems like something I'd like. But it would take me forever to finish, probably. I'm not even done with FF13-2 yet....

Have you listened to Shishido Kavka yet, Momo? She's rock with some pop, so I think you'd like her~

 

You guys listen to a lot of LDH groups/artist right? I started listening to them yesterday, but could you recommend some of your favorite songs? Especially more upbeat ones. I found some good songs so far, but nothing that really amazed me yet.

Krunchii has already recommended a lot, so my advice to you now would be to check out the official threads for info on the groups and post there if you feel comfortable. Everyone is very helpful

I bought Ink yesterday, I'll probably start reading it once I'm done with that whole Sabriel trilogy.

 

Maybe I should wait. I'll just ditch Ni no Kuni for Ace Attorney 5 when it's out, anyway.

Not really the songs I would have picked, but it's nicely written nonetheless. It's hard to recommend J-Pop without wanting to list about 50 different artists anyway.

New girl group Giselle4. Their concept is EDM meets R&B, but in reality it's more like autotune meets R&B.

The song is actually good, but completely autotuning their voices for the entire thing just ruins it. It's to the point where it's almost unbearable. I don't understand why anyone would do that. If you can't sing, just become a dancer. If you can, there's less annoying ways to use autotune. Not even going to post this in the new artist thread until they stop using it. No need to subject more people to this.

Miliyah Kato was on NHK's Music Portrait today performing and doing an interview, and she was talking about which artists inspire her. She said Shiina Ringo and Namie Amuro, are both artists she respects greatly. Her two favorite songs from Namie are Sweet 19 Blues (which of course she's done her own version of) and Don't Wanna Cry. After Miliyah wrote 19 Memories, she got to meet Namie in person and she thanked her for letting her use the song. Namie said she was happy to let her use it, and also told her she really liked the song! On Shiina Ringo, Miliyah said she really looks up to her and wants to be like her.

Two of my favorite artists, ATSUSHI x Joe Hisaishi (composer for Takeshi Kitano and Miyazaki Ghibli films) collab for Historical work promo, Zange / Confession (Repentance) to be released on October 16th!

 

Joe Hisaishi composed, ATSUSHI wrote the lyrics

 

Now ATSUSHI needs to collab with Ryuichi Sakamoto and his friend Yoshiki of X-Japan.

Anyone listen to Yamashita Tomohisa's album yet? How is it? I've downloaded it, but haven't listened to any of it yet. The previews sounded really good.
