Yes, but it's archived now. https://onehallyu.com/topic/100-the-official-jrock-thread/page-151

The genre threads died off in this section.

Thanks for letting me know.

I wanted a general thread to discuss my fave bands with people, but I don't think people would post there, since like you said genre threads have died out, I might try and get mods to unarchive it just in case tho :)

Was told by a Kpop Fan that Japan doesn't care about talent like Korea does.

I asked why and was told it's because of AKB48. I then asked them to name any other Japanese Artist or Group and they couldn't even name a single one.

What about the dozens of bands, vocal groups, soloists and legends over various different genres that have managed to stay relevant for over a decade? Many of who write their own lyrics and compose their own music. I hate getting schooled by Kpop fans when their idols are basically told when, where and how to shit.

/End Rant.

I might get allot of flack for this but I understand why K-Pop fans feel this despite it being ignorant.

If you look at the Korean music scene as whole you'll definitely see allot more overlap. Like rappers being featured on whoever the new hot or "I'm on my own now" soloist is.

You'll see R&B acts or Ballad singers being featured on records of popular or semi popular acts.

And then people know of those artists and it trickles down from there. I think this is in part to S.Korea being such a small place in general.

On the flip side you basically don't see this at all in Japanese music because everyone basically sticks to their brand and does what they know.

Utada Hikaru having KOHH on her most recent album is cool but how often do you see that?

Recently Uverworld was featured on AK-69's latest album which IMO is a step in the right direction. To unify the the different music scene and create exposure.

K-Pop fans look to idols first (mainstream) and then sink into the other stuff (indie/underground) later.

With J-Pop if your first exposure is idols that basically shuts out like 85% of the rest of the scene. Add to how backwards Japan still is about having their music reach a broader audience because reasons and you have ignorant K-Pop fans spewing nonsense.

Humans are typically lazy as fuck so it makes sense that they'd judge J-Pop on such a surface level. I know that's not all their is to it but that is one major factor that I've seen since I started coming to places like this.

I actually think this is one of the reasons why the m-flo Loves series were so damn popular. They exposed so many people to so many different acts.

We definitely need something like that in J-Music again but I doubt it'll ever happen.

I see your point, a lot of my IRL friends are like this when I try to introduce them to Japanese Music, they love the Anime OST stuff but rarely desire to do their own research and learn about different artists and genres, the Japanese Music Industry is a lot more complex than the Korean Music Industry and not everything is freely available on Youtube which is what a lot of these fans rely on, so they end up getting lazy and judging it on a surface level. It's just annoying when someone criticises something they have little to no knowledge on, but that's just human ignorance for you.

Well, time to see if there's anything I'll like this anime season.  *cracks knuckles*  Oh, and as an aside, the lyrics for BUMP OF CHICKEN's "Ribbon" are quite pretty and overall well put together.

Edit:  Hadn't realized, but happy page 1000!

For this Anime Season, Eromanga Sensei is a blessing to us all.ilikeitplz.png

Happy 1000 pages!

I can't believe it, that shameless Kpop fan is really thick-skinned lol. I don't usually attack personally on people I don't know, but this guy seems like they really need a counselling of some sort.

That person is basically writing essays for themselves at this point, a mess!

Yes~

Like Icehism explained, there is a Kpop Fan that is pressed about Japan and has since dedicated all their time to painting the Japanese Entertainment Business and Japanese acts in a bad light.

They made a Thread comparing Kpop and Jpop Concerts outside of Asia, a thread slandering BabyMetal which caused a Fanwar for 10+pages, a thread about Young Sex in Japan and now another Thread about Japanese Girl Groups and their older fanbases. They posted all their threads in the Japanese Celebrity News Section (even though it doesn't belong there), continuously posts one-sided articles and essays in their threads and doesn't respond to criticism at all, they just responds with 'white girl Facebook quotes' - like Yusuke said.

Is it just me, or do people seem like they have less and less of a clue of what they're talking about?

I've felt that way for a while also, if you don't have sufficient knowledge about a topic, it's best to not act as if you're the bearer of all knowledge. I think that users motives are clear, to trigger and annoy us whilst spreading false information that others seem to eat up.

That guy has 'psychopath' written all over them. So freakin' obsessed. I think blank_stare even made a thread calling them out and it's not even locked for days lol. Even mods are tired of them.

I've noticed some of the mods don't even bother clearing this section, hence why so many controversial threads are left open for weeks...though I prefer it that way.

I got a a thread deleted and a warning given in minutes for posting about, uh, someone else...

Awwww;; maybe it depends on the time

this reminds me that roo is no longer modding this section

I don't see her on that much anymore.

edit: oh she became a red velvet fan

I think that user is retired as a Mod now? I'm not sure though~

It's nice people have been a part of this Community for so long, I can't relate because I've only just started using forums, but have listened to Japanese Music for over 10 years now, I started off obsessed with Anime and Japanese RPG Games (still am lol) but really got into the music after falling in love with Arashi at a young age (after watching Hana Lori Dango) and then expanding my taste from there, I really love Japanese Culture and have visited there on more than a few occasions but as a White person I don't think I fetishise Asian people (I've only ever dated fellow White people...but that's probably because I came from a really white Town lol) but I understand where SeeYaWithYou is coming from in terms of some white kpop fans coming and going shortly after, they get bored eventually because they don't stay for the right reasons (the music). I'm also looking forward to Doc's Thread.

a fan is just a fan

a stan is like a mega fan. Not only do they follow all their releases, you have to buy all of them, they also like read/listen to all their interviews, keep track of their television appearances, keep up with their photoshoots, and so much more.

Stanning is like a full time job, which is why I stan 0 people

I see, thank you for the clarification, I was confused about this for a while, I also don't have the luxury and wealth of time to Stan someone, I get bored of that kind of stuff.

:( sigh

i still get sad every time i think about dbsk

Same :( I used to love Changmin and Junsu, I never stanned them but I listened to a lot of their songs & performances.

I think they were one of the best Asia has to offer in terms of Boy Groups. I agree the Mirotic is a game-changer, it's timeless.
