Can somebody help enlighten me on the current digital situation in Korea? For instance, a full digital track is sold at around 250 yen in Japan (depending on the providers). How about Korea? And is the bulk buying of hundreds of songs with a small amount of money still at practice? Edited by whitedove

Songs still sell for a couple of cents in Korea. I don't know about the bulk buying thing. I don't think that happens legally.

Hmm, the album with my favorite SILVA song is there.

And the Ringo single with my favorite B-side: http://m.nhacso.net/nghe-nhac/memai.Vl1SV0pY.html

Still in cents? Erk!

Btw was it you who mentioned that Japan contributes to 80% or something in profits for Kpop? May I ask where did you read that?

Is anyone watching 37.5C no Namida? It's not too bad, though I find the main girl lacks a spine, but isn't really getting one through the show either. Cute show. I like the music in it too.

I'm watching. It's among the 3 from this dismal summer Jdramas I'm continuing (besides Omotesando Koukou Gasshoubu and Napoleon no Mura).

Looking forward to fall dramas though. I have like 10+ dramas I want to check out lol!

Gonna watch Itazura na Kiss now

Aww Furukawa. But Tenno no Ryoriban is the highest-rated drama this year (aka the drama that Japanese people watched the most so far) and it's one of the best with top-notch acting too. Edited by whitedove

There is bickering among Japanese music fans, but it's a lot more subdued most of the time. It's about fundamental stuff, like what makes someone an artist, what is talent, compared to things like "who is the top girl group?"

Topics of who is the top/the best/the visual and the varieties of it come out every single day in Kpop side. Amazing how much energy they have to create basically similar threads.

If I have this right... her song "Zeze" is written from the perspective of a tree from My Sweet Orange Tree. In that book, Zeze becomes a sexually abused child. Anyway, his character is innocent, but mischievous, and IU described that as being sexy. The character is, like, five. Her lyrics are also layered with sexual euphemisms, as she tells Zeze to "climb the tree", "take the youngest leaf," "pluck the only flower". The album artwork for her album is being perceived as pushing the Lolita thing, and she's even laid out by books that also revolve around the theme of sexual abuse among children. She's being accused of perpetuating and glamorizing pedophilia.

The plagiarism is really secondary at this point.

Okay wow. Let me digest that for a sec.

Well,Bieber has a hit in the US with What Do You Mean so i think he will take some casual listener that will buy the album,we can't say the same with 1D.

I'm thinking that 1D might get #1 by a small margin (isn't this supposed to be their final album before hiatus? their fanbase will rally behind that), but Bieber will sell more in the long run.

They also just look at the maximum capacity and multiply that by how many days they played there. This is misleading as well. They don't look at stage setup, seating arrangement, and all that. They don't look at resales and sakuras. It's a mess.

Yeah basically, 300,000 attendance =/= 300,000 fans. And among Japanese, some of those who went are not even fans, merely people who just enjoy going to concerts no matter who the act is, even if they've never heard of them.

There's someone...new(or not?) here at OH who keeps making all these long essays about the overrated success of Kpop with all these links that most are neither relevant and credible, and it's getting on my nerves.

I feel the need to write something on these threads but maybe I should just away. My days of arguing with people is supposedly over. Edited by whitedove

STOP PLAYING!

Has anyone else seen any random Japanese acts pop up on any year end lists like this?

Hahaha!

Well I've seen OKAMOTO'S bassist made it into this year's 10 best bassists in the world (I've seen him in action, he's incredible!) but I'll have to go back and dig where I saw it. :)

A-mei Zhang is everything, I have to agree.

Also, Nikkei has published its latest list of concert mobilization ranking from this year: http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXMZO94721470T01C15A2000000/
