The J-Music Lovers' International Assembly

This might be a stupid question but I was wondering why so many older JPop albums out of print on CDJapan and YesAsia?  E.g. I've been working my way back through Globe's discography and have had to resort to Amazon (and even second hand copies in some cases) and I was looking up Gackt's Rebirth album today which is unavailable.  I also out of curiosity looked up Ayumi's Duty which is also out of print.

Are these CDs available in shops in Japan or are they out of print completely?

At least now a lot of these albums are available on iTunes.  It's scary how many of these albums are out of print since I got into JPop and it kinda sucks for any new JPop fans wanting to get into some classic artists who want to buy physical copies of their music.

It makes me so glad that when I got into JPop in 2004 I was able to get so many albums throughout the years which aren't available now.

Yes, they're out of print. But how many albums from 20 years ago from anywhere are still in print, unless they're re-released?

What do you guys think of Avex's new logo?

Personally I think it's a downgrade (it's ugly imo)... their simple "a" looked a lot nicer

Eww.

Just reading through that BTS Army vs. Cupcakke twitter beef mess and it got me thinking:

Has any Japanese fandom been so rabid to go after a western artist for saying something about their fave? It happens all the time with k-fandoms but I don't really hear anything like it j-fandoms.

Because when they talk about Japanese acts, which is rare, it's normally ones people don't care about. Like Justin Bieber talking about Piko-Taro.

There's only two songs left in my playlist out of the entire track. Sugar & Yoru no Kage. A couple of intl fans on twitter said those two sounded too kpop.. but they've been doing disco funk like Sugar since their first album. I would hate if there's no disco vibe in arashi album. Yoru no Kage might sound kpop-ish and they (nino esp) sounded so good.

Btw, THE NEW SINGLE IS LOVELY. Loving all the tracks.

TOKIO had a bigger hit than Arashi recently? What song was it?

Actually their last hit songs were a year apart, about a decade ago.

Korea's Johnny's fans make their own sousenkyo through theqoo and here are the results from 2015-2017:

This could make an interesting thread! If only I could find the original theqoo source, because I'm sure people will be asking for it.

KinKi Kids being so high is surprising.

So I'm officially heading off to Japan on the 4th of December. Well technically we are doing layover in Japan before we head off to Seoul for 4 days to with a very tight itinerary (including a DMZ Tour!). My sister managed to snag a ticket to see BTS she wanted to see really badly so I'm happy for her.

On the japanese side of things I have a quite comprehensive concert schedule going for a good month as the following:

  • The Yellow Monkey on 10 December in Tokyo Dome
  • Kuwata Keisuke on 16 December in Kyocera Dome
  • Eikichi Yazawa on 19 December in Nippon Budokan
  • Big Bang on 21 December in Kyocera Dome
  • B'z on 23 December in Fukuoka Yafuoka Dome
  • UverWorld on News Year Eve in Marine Messe Arena
  • Porno Graffitti on 11 January in Morioka Cultural Hall

Of course I would've loved to see Namie Amuro live but they would've required me to stay an extra month on top of applying for heavily contested tickets.

So I'm quite satisfied overall on how I managed to line this up. I'll definitely give an account of my trip and concert experience once I get back so watch this space.

How did you manage to get all these tickets?

also why isn't wednesday campanella as hyped as they used to be

they're still quality

I'm not familiar with how much they're selling tho, so maybe I'm wrong

They're not as hyped because the material isn't as exciting.

Your shade failed. Namie stays a legend.

And it was serious question, is Sheena's album any good?

I like it. She's had better though.

God, stan twitter is the absolute worst. I know with Kpop fans people always say it cause they're young, but it's been going on for years and some people never seem to grow out of it.

I think the most annoying thing is when people try to point to sales or YouTube views as a be all end all, but quality is so much more important than random figures. Just because something sells well or gets a lot of views doesn't mean it's good.

-----

I really can't wait for March to come. Yakuza 6 and Ni no Kuni II come out the same week and they have a high chance of being my games of the year

A big part of it is them being young. The KPop fans of 5 years ago are largely gone, replaced by another young group that will be gone in a few years, leading to the cycle repeating.

Agreed. Kpop is a revolving door where masses of fans come and leave in a moments notice hence the constant bragging and quarrels online. The high turnover rate of idol groups also plays a role.

Yes. Everything is new to them because they're pretty much always new.
