I was in the thread when it was released and everyone was like "This is such a bop!". I definitely wasn't hearing what they were hearing, cause I think both of the songs sound awful. Fans try to say they're doing classic hip-hop and I'm like it's not even close.

There are songs where artists do a version/homage to a classic style, but this "Bling Bling" literally sounded like a track a one hit wonder would release in 2004 or a poor man's version of Big Bang's "Bang Bang Bang".

True!

Did you see their dome tour? Enough empty seats to accommodate each digital copy they sold and then some.

Please tell me this is you being hyperbolic.

Wow!

I'm still somewhat salty that Keyakizaka46 didn't get nominated. They would so easily win over iKON.

I think japanese will like the cute choreo. They already hv a bit of exposure in msute. Since they hv japanese members, it would be easier to communicate with japanese fans. Their TT song seems to be doing fine with LINE streaming. I dont know how their fans define success. We'll just hv to wait ne. If they use the lottery method like bts, i wonder if they will get the same range of sales numbers like them.

On the Line music chart, the songs there & digital charts vary quite a bit ne. Saw many English song in Line. Is it because of age demographic?

Their fans are already overhyping them with what success they have already in Japan.

Not everything that is available for download is available for streaming, so that is one reason for the discrepancy. The Austin Mahone song is a hit in general. The Fast and the Furious song doing well is understandble seeing as how the soundtrack is doing well. And streaming does have a younger audience. I mean, the price of one digital song is about the same price as an unlimited streaming account at the student rate.

The song is really cute. But I'm afraid JiYoung is pigeonholing herself into putting out naff Dorama-friendly tunes for the rest of career and that her success is entirely contingent on tie-ins. A lot of new female soloists are also in this predicament.

As for the TWICE talk here. Signal is growing on me despite me hating it on first listen, Idk how JYP does it... I hate to say it, but TWICE is looking at decent success when they debut in Japan (even if it means their stans might be peacocking their achievements at the J-section unsure.png )

Also I've been listening to a lot of Yamashita Tatsuro lately, I think my favourite song to come out of his discography is Sprinkler, instrumentally it sounds like Christmas Eve (that's because it was released a few months before his big hit), but that bass riff is sending me all sort of feels ahmagahplz.png. It also helps his has crystal clear vocals to top it off.

It's the weather. When it gets warm, the city pop comes out.

My fave:

The Oral Cigarettes are indeed a great Band <3

Why is it always the YG fans who makes these kind of 'look how Popular Oppar is in Japan' Threads?

Because YG has a superiority complex. They're they bad boys of the KPop idol world. But how bad is that to begin with?

Those threads are so grating. It's gross kpop fans are so entitled over events that don't even belong to them and sales they only want so they can shit on their rival "fandoms" yet I've seen they like to claim we're petty?

I didn't even know any of those Korean acts attending AN except EXO. Speaking of k-pop, I've never heard of this group either but I came across this song earlier and I think it's fantastic.

I think it might be the best Japanese song by a Korean group I've heard.

After School is one of the KPop acts I did like. Shinichi Osawa produced that song, as well as

He also produced the song SeeYaWithYou posted on this page, under his MONDO GROSS name.

It's actually how to find content for Jpop newbies xD if you guys can give me a list of where you find news, PVs, or whatever, that would be wonderful thanks ^^

A lot of the peeps keep complaining about how hard it is to find stuff. *looks at my list of 8 video sites*

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. I don't suggest things to people because they're basically looking for KPop / Western top 40 music in Japanese, and that's not my thing. And they want a certain kind of act, one that they can lose themselves in via non-music things like variety shows and social media because they don't have much going on in their own lives.

How did Seiko go from releasing her best song in like 10 years to this bs

I was confused when I found out last night she's releasing an album this week. The sites were posting about her jazz cover album more than this one.

My friend's sister is getting married this weekend. She's Japanese and for her reception she is having her bridesmaids do a dance to Happy Summer Wedding by Morning Musume. This is the second Japanese wedding I've been invited to where the bride and her bridesmaids danced to Happy Summer Wedding.

Has anyone been to a wedding where this has happened? Is this like a huge trend for Japanese people or is it just pure coincidence?

It's a huge wedding song. The only one that beats it is Kaela Kimura's "Butterfly."

Has GUMMY always been this good?

This album was amazing, her best work.

A bunch of Cosmic Girls were coming at me because I claimed that their Happy teaser was a rip off of Perfume's: Magic of Love, apparently it doesn't matter since it wasn't included in the full MVrolleyes.gif and since Perfume didn't come up with the concept and instead their Management did, it means that Perfume can never be ripped off of!

Bringing up management is also a way to take the heat off of Cosmic Girls.

This is a bit of a shameless plug of my favourite artist but anyone whose interested in discovering legendary J-pop artists should watch the documentary linked below. It's a NHK documentary on the career, artistry and impact of Miyuki Nakajima in Japan and across Asia.

Anyone who is familiar with J-pop should know of her name. But I figured it's a good way to introduce an internationally not-so-known artist who has a huge influence in the female singer-songwriter archetype in Japan. It's a worthwhile watch if you have the time.

It's on Youku, but I think you'll just need Flash enabled, it should at least work on firefox.

It's also subbed in English btw.

Thanks!

WTF is 1:12? And 2:26? I don't think even Perfume has had their vocals processed this much.

I am so disappointed in Twice's japanese song. When I watch it, i kept reminding myself that it was in japanese because most of the time i couldn't get what they are trying to say. even the japanese members.

Same.

[Reaction of J-netz in response to whether TWICE is really as popular in Japan:

[+1748, -18] They’re just force-feeding.

[+756, -20] I’ve never seen or heard of them.

[+312, -2] Correction, they’re the most popular group in South Korea but in Japan, only a small portion of K-POP fans, and the media who received advertisement fees are making a big deal out of it. K-POP is popular to a small group of people but the news saying “People all over Japan are…†is false. Don’t misunderstand.

[+222, -5] If they were active in South Korea, became popular, their name became well-known, and they gained fans in Japan, I would understand. But they’re not well known and haven’t done sh*t but are “very popular in Japan!†Aren’t they’re being too blatant?

[+174, 15] SNSD’s Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, and although she’s an ex-member, Jessica are good at singing. But TWICE who is supposedly going to “surpass†SNSD is very lacking when it comes to singing. The leader? Is treated like she is the best singer, but she just has volume but isn’t good."

LOL BTS&Ikon got dragged into it as well:

[+644, -57] I bet they’re gonna use the same gimmicks as BTS to sell (high touch/handshake events) and brag that they won against someone. I feel bad for Kame and Yamapi, I hate BTS, all they do it high touch/handshake events.

[+69, -6] Last week they (a program called ZIP) were introducing a K-POP group that I’ve never heard of by saying “They’re a globally popular group that surpasses Justin Bieberâ€. It’s very clearly a lie but they’re force feeding us with it.

[+328, -5] We don’t need a popularity that is manufactured like the South Korean group that won the rookie award from Record Taisho (Ikon right?).

—->[+62, -2] That was the first and last time I saw them… What was with that, seriously lol. That group couldn’t even be force-fed to us.]

^above is someone post in bashing thread. They really shouldn't media play being so popular in Japan.

Maybe original Japanese song is better. But then I kinda like mine kyun by AOA. It wasn't as bad as Twice TT.

Nobody is saying Twice is big in Japan besides KPop fans and the media that wants to make money off of them.

tbf about the JRA thing and ikon. Like yeah, the award was obviously bought, but its not like any of the other nominees had any public impact. It would have been the "first and last time" most people saw any of them.

Keyakizaka46 is the only debut of last year that had any real impact. Honestly, I don't even know why Japan has Best New Artist awards because it's not as if acts really have an impact from debut.

any thoughts on Twice making their JP debut on Music Station?

The gori oshi is real.

But this will either be really good for them, or really bad. I just think of Gouriki Ayame on Music Station and how her music career pretty much died after that.

WATTT??? Twice is so popular in Japan they bypassed the Kpop ban!!!!1!!!1!!!11

This should be a thread.

Yeah as if there's a ban on Kpop in the first place lol.

But also, somebody mentioned that even if Warner is not that powerful, Burning probably has a hand in pulling the strings. Which means, expect TWICE to win Best New Artist at this year's JRA yay!

I asked someone I talk to about these things and she said that Burning isn't as linked, but probably still linked.

So true though. I loved how ppl didn't realize you were being sarcastic xD

im really tired of ppl saying kpop is banned in Japan when it's not.

It's banned!

But GOT7 was on Buzz Rhythm earlier this month...

I mean, it's banned from big shows!

But Big Bang was on Music Station in February...
