The J-Music Lovers' International Assembly

Yep, and I hate this. Especially when the people they get the info aren't even that knowledgeable on J-pop. Most of experience is just watching one AKB48 music video and some Babymetal ones and they think they exactly how the charts go, what music is trending in Japan, etc. It's even worse with the "What's trending in Japan" because a lot of these people look at how much idols sell, and think that's what the majority of Japanese people like and enjoy.

Those "K-pop vs J-pop" videos comment section are filled with people like this, which is why I just don't even try with them anymore. I hope one day people can just stop making them, it's obvious most K-pop fans don't know how to be respectable in the comments towards Japanese groups and their main goal is to just rile up J-pop fans, and not even show some actually good groups (not just LDH or Perfume).

Sorry for the rant, but these type of fans really make me mad.

I just wish more people lived in reality.

She's doing children's music now

Don't remind me! When Taku said they would record something new soon, I wasn't expecting this!

I might get allot of flack for this but I understand why K-Pop fans feel this despite it being ignorant.

If you look at the Korean music scene as whole you'll definitely see allot more overlap. Like rappers being featured on whoever the new hot or "I'm on my own now" soloist is.

You'll see R&B acts or Ballad singers being featured on records of popular or semi popular acts.

And then people know of those artists and it trickles down from there. I think this is in part to S.Korea being such a small place in general.

On the flip side you basically don't see this at all in Japanese music because everyone basically sticks to their brand and does what they know.

Utada Hikaru having KOHH on her most recent album is cool but how often do you see that?

Recently Uverworld was featured on AK-69's latest album which IMO is a step in the right direction. To unify the the different music scene and create exposure.

K-Pop fans look to idols first (mainstream) and then sink into the other stuff (indie/underground) later.

With J-Pop if your first exposure is idols that basically shuts out like 85% of the rest of the scene. Add to how backwards Japan still is about having their music reach a broader audience because reasons and you have ignorant K-Pop fans spewing nonsense.

Humans are typically lazy as fuck so it makes sense that they'd judge J-Pop on such a surface level. I know that's not all their is to it but that is one major factor that I've seen since I started coming to places like this.

I actually think this is one of the reasons why the m-flo Loves series were so damn popular. They exposed so many people to so many different acts.

We definitely need something like that in J-Music again but I doubt it'll ever happen.

My issue with that statement is that if they really were looking at the mainstream, they would see more than idols. And if they can know Namie and ONE OK ROCK, they can know other acts who are just as mainstream.

Hi guys

I've requested this in the past, but I've been out of touch recently. Hope this is the right place to ask?

I'm a long-time Sakanaction fan. Where can I access their music to stream? Not on soundcloud, spotify, etc.

Is Apple Music/iTunes an option? I tried looking. (In the US)

And lastly, what's a good place for updates on their music for English-speakers. Like many other Japanese acts, they don't seem to be as accessible to Western listeners, so I'd love to know where's the best place to look! (Even a place with lyric translations. Much appreciated.)

I'm thinking of seeing Ayu this year around December since her tour runs all the way until early next year. So I'm relatively flexible with regards to which cities its held in and whatnot.

Does anyone with experience with Japanese concerts have an indication of how "in demand" her tickets are nowadays? I'd assume they're relatively easy to procure since her star has faded coupled with the fact that her tour is quite long (meaning more seating spaces available).

Hi,

I'm not much of a streamer so I can't help you with the first question.

But for the second question, the J-pop community is quite fragmented so many acts have their dedicated news portals, but for overall entertainment news and updates I think aramajapan.com or http://www.tokyohive.com/are good places to start.

Stuff like lyric translations are likely to be found in fan livejournals, granted that the material you're looking for has a large enough international fanbase to translate them. Sakanaction is quite popular internationally, so you'll probably have little problem finding translations. See link below as an example (It's the translation for Sakanaction's "Music")

What are you're favourite Sakanaction songs btw?

EDIT: Hyperlinks and yay 100 posts!

Hmm, I haven't visited this site in a while, but the girl who runs it seems to have disappeared last year, just like the guy who ran the most updated Sakanaction fan Tumblr. I can't blame them, given how they're dragging this album release out.

This girl who ran that blog I linked is really, really, really into them. So much so she even had the demos from Ichiro's old band from the turn of the century. Thankfully, she was willing to share.

Honestly the easiest way to keep up with them is just following them on social media and Japanese news sites. I translate all the big news for Arama, along with posting music show performances.

Ronald, your review of I'll Be There made me laugh but I agree 100%. Unknown is a-side material. I'm just tired of these dated songs.

That Arashi "I'll be there" review is exactly how I feel about the song

And of course, someone went on about how much I hate Arashi, even though I've given them two 9s before I believe.

I wish some Kpop Fans actually used the Pinned Japanese Suggestion Thread instead of just flooding the forum with the same 'Recommend me Jpop Groups' Thread everyday.

True.

Like Icehism explained, there is a Kpop Fan that is pressed about Japan and has since dedicated all their time to painting the Japanese Entertainment Business and Japanese acts in a bad light.

They made a Thread comparing Kpop and Jpop Concerts outside of Asia, a thread slandering BabyMetal which caused a Fanwar for 10+pages, a thread about Young Sex in Japan and now another Thread about Japanese Girl Groups and their older fanbases. They posted all their threads in the Japanese Celebrity News Section (even though it doesn't belong there), continuously posts one-sided articles and essays in their threads and doesn't respond to criticism at all, they just responds with 'white girl Facebook quotes' - like Yusuke said.

Makes a thread about the concert industry, but has no idea what a scalper is.

Isn't it interesting how, on a K-pop forum (because let's not delude ourselves, this isn't an Asian music forum), the J-pop crowd has pretty much stayed in tact, but almost none of the K-pop fans stuck around as long?

The only KPop fans I can think of that have been here as long as us are the The Fanturd people, but do they even count since none of them even listen to KPop still?

But in reality, the people who post here regularly have been around since 6T, and that's at least 2011.

Koda Kumi said during the encore of her last concert that she has no budget to make PVs anymore :o Should Avex give her more money or does her sales justify that decision?

The sales justify it. She's basically down to her core fandom now and they don't need music videos or promo. They'll know on their own she has a new release out. The public just doesn't care.

Some BTS fans told us that they're only being proud of how well their group is doing in Japan and they're not saying BTS is popular or big in Japan, but then all these threads start coming up about how BTS are dominating and conquering Japan...

So what is the truth?

Make a thread!

So basically YG group Ikon just had a comeback after a year and a half hiatus. Their fans were talking out the side of their necks about how they were going to dominate and junk. Well they're not and now fans are going on the defense and trying to drag another YG group's fandom (Winners') and that fandom isn't having it.

Why would they drag that fandom?

omg ikon were the ones that won the JRA. Lol at them flopping.

That award is so prestigous! IKON is on top in Japan! You have no idea what you're talking about, Avex didn't buy that for them!
