I bought Krevas new album and it's pretty fucking great!

Uso To Bouno is catchy as hell lol

Also I took a relisten to AKLO OSTF album and it's actually been growing on me. Maybe when I first bumped it I just wasn't ready for the style he was going for. But I like it a bit more than the Arrival.

I was not there "The Arrival."

But is Nujabes a bad artist? Could you elaborate (I'm curious)

Also you guys reminded me there's a Kreva album too *flocks to it*

No, it's just really cliched. People name drop him to look knowledgeable, but it's very fake. It's also dated at this point, seeing as how he's been dead for several years now.

Wait did you not like Arrival?

Is Nujabes a bad artist? No.

That's not the problem though. The problem is that when any publication wants to spotlight Japanese Hip-Hop they have a tendency to spoon feed people entry level acts for the sake of sounding knowledgeable about the scene.

It comes off as lazy and plagiaristic, It feels like whoever did their research typed in J-Rap and clicked Wikipedia.

There's so many cool rappers from Japan that make Hip-Hop in their own style but get no love because they don't sound like whats trendy over here. Or they don't sound like J Dilla.

I'll PM you if no one has stepped up already.

It didn't measure up to the album before. And in retrospect, it was a lull considering the album that came after it.

This. The company isn't giving them chances. And obviously as a solo act from a group, it may be harder, but im sure the mgmt has the money for it.

I think the less popular Japanese acts still do shows, no? I know Jasmine had/has a show coming up soon.

I wish the companies would also allow their acts more artistic freedom. sigh.

Shows as in concerts or music shows? Well, both are true so it doesn't really matter...

Hah okay, so Kanjani8 fandom got some big news tonight delivered by the group on KanJAM. Their new album (that they didn't release last year but they still managed to sneak into the top 5 overall best-selling artists anyway) will be released on June 28th.

And someone just told me that it's on the same day as TWICE's Japanese debut.

OMG Johnnys can be savage when they want to LOL.

LOL

I see you're rly into japanese music and I was wondering if you know a site like k2n for japanese music? i'm actually looking for a site that uploaded snuper(a kpop group's) japanese mini album Oh Yeah but I can't find it ANYWHERE. Even jpopsuki didn't work, so I'm hoping you know some other site that has the album?

The Japanese download sites I go to very rarely post KPop, and even then it's a really big act. If it's not on K2N, then I don't know what to tell you.

I see some comment and they say

"strongest in asia" like seriously are they forget theres perfume and babymetal which is more strongest if we talk "in asia"

Well they do have in point, in that sometimes Japan separates itself from Asia.

I don't understand the hype behind Twice. I've seen their Korean shit and it's nothing special lol. Like yeah they have some catchy bubblegum Pop but that's like 95% of generic K-Pop. Non of the girls have a distinct look or gimmick.

Yet all these K-Pop drones are screaming YAAAS and slay like wtf lol

K-Pop was a mistake -Twinblades

The hype is largely because they have Japanese members so they figure that will mean they'll be big in Japan. Yes, because every Japanese person that signs a record contract is guaranteed a hit. rolleyes.gif

Im not going to lie I like Twice songs aside from Knock-Knock, But they(onces) are hyping them up the same way VIPs hype up Bigbang. Bigbang garner over 1 million people for the tour last year, and VIPS were saying they are super popular in JP, but where was those people to buy MADE JP album and there was 10 vers. of MADE. Its nothing but Hype- Kpop fans thrive off it.

Exactly.

I like TT by Twice and I think Cheer Up is a fun song to listen to sometimes. And of course the members are gorgeous so that helps when it comes to watching their videos. I don't think they are anything special, but they're not bad.

This new generation of Kpop fans have weird taste tho. Like suddenly people are acting like 4minute is some legendary GG that they all stanned. Literally the most random group. And their later career was shit too.

To be fair, popularity can sometimes be measured by concert attendance over sales. Think about Momoiro Clover Z. Everyone knows they were the #2 girl group for a while, but their sales still never broke 100k. Yet at the same time they were still able to sell out Nissan Stadium two days in a row and a bunch of other huge concerts. Just because they didn't have great album or single sales, doesn't take away from their huge popularity.

They're popular as a live act then. I mean, if they were really popular, they wouldn't be getting dropped from shows like Kohaku and Music Station Super Live.

Yess, in japan industries 17K already good enough esp with oricom new rule

If in kpop maybe they will start their "flop drama" thread

I dont. And honestly, I'm not really a RAU DEF fan.

All this does is make me fucking mad that PUNPEE still doesn't a have a solo album. This nigga has been featuring on people's shit for years. Still no album.

God just thinking about him having BACHLOGIC and JIGG beats with his singing and rapping kyaaaaaa

I'd want him to produce. His samples are so good, like in that video and in: http://sayonarababy.tumblr.com/post/132444742523/i-cant-believe-they-sampled-sades-the-sweetest

The samples on the G.RINA song GAGGED me. I played that for some friends and they gagged as well.

this certainly came to my mind but what is there to fear?

The facts and how they'll destroy their fake reality.

I did this thing recently that was like a forum game where people would submit 1 Japanese song a round (following a specific category) and then judges would score them. Lowest score each round would get eliminated. The whole point was to help others like discover new music but the competition was so shit bc everyone was just posting like E-girls, Faky, and then anime music. It was clearly only Kpop fans participating.

This was it: https://onehallyu.com/topic/487083-game-play-jpop-showdown-starts-8am-est/

We should do something like that, but with people who actually regular the J-music side who actually CAN introduce people to new, good music each round. It's like one of those trade offs we used to do but with judges, eliminations, and a final winner

I guess I can take a break from my "I done trying to convert people" stance...

Yes, but it's archived now. https://onehallyu.com/topic/100-the-official-jrock-thread/page-151

The genre threads died off in this section.

Thanks for letting me know.

I wanted a general thread to discuss my fave bands with people, but I don't think people would post there, since like you said genre threads have died out, I might try and get mods to unarchive it just in case tho smile.png

I kinda like that the genre threads died. It stopped this self-segregation.

Because a lot of 'I heard' I guess, and believing that's the truth, even when it comes from people who have no idea how Japanese music industry and charts work.

Same thing with Kpop fans keep insisting that Kpop is banned in Japan, they were fed this false information by their own peers, without trying to confirm with the Japanese music side first.

You would think that if they really stanned an act, they would know about their performances on Japanese music shows, but I guess not. But now I'm reminded of how some fans say they ignore Japanese promotions because there is just one performance instead of a bombardment of content like in Korea.
