It's a tragedy really. This and Bye Bye solidified my position as a stan of her years ago when I saw both videos.

That NB article of the new idol generation had comments about how, while the new idols are popular, they still aren't at the level that SNSD or Wonder Girls were at their peaks, and probably never will be. Reminded me of the discussion we had a month or two ago about the female soloists in Japan, and how despite the popularity of some of them, they probably won't start a wave or craze like say Utada or Ayu did.

Sometimes I do wish I had a wish friend just to see what their attitude to certain things are compared to mine, though it depends on their upbringing more than anything. I do agree with some comment how giving your kids things isn't bad, but not teaching them the value and cost (both physical and opportunity) of something is.

I had a friend in high school who wasn't extremely wealthy, but her family definitely had plenty of money (her parents had their own law firm). She had a decently large house with a two level deck and hot tub, TVs in every room (the only rooms that didn't have TVs were the office and bathrooms; every bedroom had one, plus the living room, family room, and kitchen) and the latest electronics. Her family also gave her and her brother cars when they turned 16, and they went on fancy trips every Spring Break and summer vacation (Mexico, Hawaii, etc).

Her parents were really generous and kind to me (they often paid for school expenses and school trips when my mother couldn't and without expecting anything in return), but my friend was definitely a bit spoiled. Her parents made her work for spending money, but she worked in their office and didn't really have to put in effort to look for a job elsewhere. She didn't really understand why I would just window shop when we were out instead of buying everything I liked. We also had opposite taste in clothes, though I don't know if that was more about our personalities or what. She liked fancier, more extravagant things, while I liked simpler designs.

That last part may be personality. I like fancy things but just can never afford them XD

 

My family isn't wealthy and always thinking about the next payment, but we do have the luxury of traveling pretty easily since my dad works for the airlines, so that negates a major expense. I can relate to no always appreciating that privilege until you're older. Doesn't make me enjoy flying anymore, but I do appreciate the chances I get more now than before.

 

Admittedly, I'd like to spoiler friends if I had money. I kind of want to see what it's like to experiences that from a friend. Not for the things or the experiences, but for the fact they'd be willing to do that. Even if someone has money, they are never obligated to pay for you unless they took a loan from you or something. 

 

When I'm with friends, we all have to be mindful how much we spend and what we do or go since someone may not be able to afford it. I don't go out much with friends, so I'd like to go to a slightly more pricey restaurant and don't mind paying my way, but some of the folks I hang out with might not since they hand out more often, and thus spend more frequently.

It's nice to hang out with friends who can spend more freely than you for those reasons, but sometimes then they don't understand why you can't always spend that much. I suppose it's one of many reasons people of similar socioeconomic status stick together.

Man I can't find any good new anime this season. Many have nice music or good art, but nothing interesting plot or character-wise. 

 

Guess I'll just take the chance to catch up on old shows. 

 

Also been playing FF8 on Steam. It's so weird playing something again I haven't played in nearly 15 years.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good, cheap laptop? For mainly just internet browsing and some school work mostly?

if you want brand recommendations, i'd say Lenovo, dell, apple(macbook air), intel, or acer would be fine
If you're looking for something cheap, really, anything that is cheap will do fine since you won't need anything intensive like video cards, audio, or ram.
 
heck, i actually think if you just invested into a macbook pro, you would be set for the rest of your life if you needed a casual machine.

Dell seems like a decent choice. I might go for come thing cheaper since it's mostly just internet browsing and some typing. My desktop is giving me issues lately and I may need to invest into that now. Course they both start to break down the same time.

Game wise I don't own a console. Poor college student and all I guess. But mainly I don't have time. It's easier to boot up the 3ds and play on the computer. A good computer can be a better gaming system if you want it to be. Waiting for Oras, but not rushing. Waiting for ff7 to go on sale on steam then will probably mod it. Playing through ff8 and gw2 right now though.
Trying to play fable and dust and Elysian tale, but I only have so much time and patience.

I've been so lazy when it comes to music this year. I don't even really think it's a lack of good music, I'm just kind of lazy and listening to old OSTs. Similarly been kind of lazy when it comes to dramas and anime, but that happens sometimes, since I'd be playing games instead. Goes in cycles. 

 

I think this year was overall just busier and it was easier not to search for new music or catch up. January through August I was busy with school and apps. Ironically my busiest semester was last Fall, yet it was one of my least stressful.

 

I did discover a new drama called Sakura, starring Yukie Nakama. Started watching today. It reminds me of Gakuen even though it's a crime drama, but I'm liking it.
