Fanfic authors giving out autographs

So I've noticed something a lot of fanfic authors are doing.. they're making hard copies of their fics and signing them to give away. I know someone recently did that at kcon because she had a popular exo fic, and now this other person is giving away signed copies of her published fic. Although I admire their confidence, I think that's a little weird..

Yeah, it's a little weird since they're based on actual people and not fictional characters. But I guess so long as they're not trying to profit from it and they're giving them away for free? It was for free, right? =o

are you talking about the book or the autograph? seeing as how it costs money to make the fics into physical copies, you probably had to purchase the book (otherwise the authors would just be losing money)

and by purchasing the book you get the autograph with it

I only ever read one exo fic from this one author whose stories are absolutely amazing. Her writing is impeccable for someone who is a fanfic writer and she comes up with all these amazing ideas. If it was her, I understand her doing this autograph thing.

All the others who just get popular for Having Luhan and Sehun kissing and God knows what more shouldn't even think about it.

Is it legal? =o I'm just asking since they're books based on actual people =o

Or is there some kind of loophole since it's fictional writing and they're public figures?

I'm not sure but even if it wasn't legal I doubt that sm would bother to do anything (if they ever found out) since they really only sell a couple of these books

It's not legal but people have been doing this in Korea since the birth of k-pop so I don't think the companies or the idols care. Everyone knows it's just fiction so they're okay with it.

I love Baby's Breath, so I wouldn't mind a hardcopy of it but I won't give a fuck about the autograph tho

And the author of Baby's Breath is a guy btw

That's why I referred to them as 'someone', because I didn't want to assume their gender. I'm reading Baby's Breath too. It has its boring moments and the grammar (esp the overusuage of commas) gets to me, but it's a really good fic.
