4TEN had 4 members. Now with 5 members I guess the company didn't think it's suitable anymore.

[iNTERVIEW] THE TEARS OF GIRL GROUP POTEN â€˜WE THOUGHT WE’D DISBAND’

POTEN announced their comeback on the 3rd of July with their 3rd single â€˜SalSalHae’. They’ve made their debut last August, but this is the first time we (the news outlet) meet them. They’re vibrant and very lively. The way they cheerfully greet everyone with a loud voice make us think of the early days of SISTAR.

However during the interview, the members of POTEN shed tears. The group that used to have 4 members, ended up with only 2 and came back with 5 members (with the addition of Yun, Heeo and Hajeong).

Hyejin said â€˜I thought POTEN would disband. The company also thought that the situation wasn’t good. I suffered a lot mentally. I saw other girl groups which debuted at the same time as us, but appeared more often on TV (than us) and I wondered what am I doing. This comeback is very important. We’ve been planning for it for a long time. I hope people will look at us warmly.’

POTEN emphasized that they debuted as a hip pop girl group. But the concept of ‘SalSalHae’ is sexy. And the lyrics suggest an â€˜easiness’.

Hyeji said â€˜Our song isn’t exactly sexy. The lyrics don’t really suggest that. We ask our lover (in the song) to not rush so we can have a sincere love. Since debut, I’ve wanted to try out different concepts. And â€˜SalSalHae’ emphasizes our feminine charm rather than being a sexy concept.’

Yun introduced her members by saying â€˜Hajeong is our vitamin-like maknae. Heeo is our charismatic rapper. Hyeji, our oldest, is youthful and graceful. And Hyejin is a pure twenty year old with milky skin.’

Hajeong said â€˜Our advantage is that everyone can see each member’s personality on stage. And the members also have different musical colors. And there isn’t as well a prescribed dress code (a genre). Someday I want each one of us to include in our album a different song that suit their musical tastes. And we also want to try singing ballads and r&b songs.’

Hyeji said ‘Our goal is simple we want others to say that our song is good. Our debut song â€˜Tornado’ entered the Top 60, but it went down too quickly. We’ll be more than happy if we can stay in the Top 100 for two weeks at least.’

We asked them to imagine if they could suddenly become the next icon like EXID. 

Heeo replied â€˜Winning 1st place isn’t the most important. Too many people have suffered for us. But if we won 1st place I think everything would become blank. And we’d cry so much that our makeup would end up being all smudged and we’d look really ugly, but we wouldn’t care.’

It’s hard for idol groups to instantly become popular. But POTEN keeps on thinking positively. This is their pure charm. We wish to see them for a long time.

Heeo trained for 6 years. And Yun and Hajeong trained approximatively from 3 to 4 years.
