Oliver 22,442
If SS501 never disbanded.. Could DSP be as big as it was in the 90s?? Back in the 90s there were no "Big 3" there were only SM & DSP.. those were the only "big" entertainment companies with more than 1 successful group in Korea at the time DSP Media currently houses Kara, Rainbow & Ajax.. SS501 were as big as TVXQ.. and Kara were one of the top 3 girls groups in late 2000s.. If SS501 never disbanded and continued their success as a high tier group.. while having Kara also be very successful could it have resulted in the Rise of DSP Media ?? *Discuss*

TAE ZONE 10,428
yes. as you said SS501 was super popular and Kara was/is popular ;^; everything started going down hill for DSP Media when the CEO got sick back in 2010. his wife controlled the company then idk how the company can recover >.< they can't only rely on Kara, there has to be a new rising group but the company isn't promoting a-jax well and puretty disbanded so... Honestly speaking they can't recover.. they could still be big but not as big as they were before.. and not at the level of "The Big 3" or Cube & FNC.. Kara are amazing but the other companies are growing way too fast for DSP to catch up..
ezgiT 3,098
finkl also never disbanded but look at them (lee hyoris group ^^) you do know that its only a bluff of them not officially disbanding they say they havent, so its a smooth transition of them getting into other companies doing other stuff etc,

abra 40,910
Maybe The issue has always been the generation after Kara, and with more SS501 fans around maybe there'd been more resources available and fans interested in Rainbow and Ajax, or they'd have better trainees/names/concepts
Ryan 288
Back when SS501 and KARA were in their prime, DSP could of contended with JYP for number 3, but now they don't have a single chance.

While that's true, even when the CEO was running things it seems DSP couldn't hold onto more than 1 successful group at a time, and DSP can't be top tier with only 1 active successful group at a time, so.... Yeah I suppose you're right but still, the way I see it, before the CEO had his health problems he had one big group, Kara, very successful, were looking likely to be Korea's top girl group, and then the wife took over, they wanted to terminate their contracts, then Nicole was treated badly so decided not to renew anyway, Jiyoung left etc, because of the way she is managing is basically destroyed their only popular group that they had at the time. Also remember SS501 didn't renew their contracts when the wife took over either. Not that the old CEO didn't have problems, but I think he had also been learning from his mistakes (like with FinKL). He also had experienced staff that had been through the growth of DSP as well, both the accomplishments and missteps. When the wife took over, all of that was gone. She fired all the longstanding employees, replaced them with new people, didn't negotiate really at all with SS501 to renew their contracts, then just basically used KARA to go from promotion to promotion like she is still doing. When did Kara have a proper set of promotions in Korea? I certainly can't remember. Because of her incompetence, Nicole and Jiyoung have left KARA and she lost Sweetune as KARA's producer which is why Duble Sidekick is producing this time. She's disbanded every other DSP group except AJAX and Rainbow. I feel the worst for Rainbow who's stuck in their 7 year contract and only at year 5. I have no idea what will happen to them once their contract expires, but you can better believe that not promoting for 3 of the 5 years so far probably won't help any of them to renew with DSP. I could hope that they would all go sign with some other label, but my feeling is they'll probably all go their separate ways in the entertainment industry or leave it. If you want an example of bad choices to make, take a look at this non-title track Rainbow performed on Inkigayo (the only time they ever performed it) back during their Sunshine comeback and tell me they wouldn't have been better off promoting that instead of Sunshine. Just listen to that crowd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-4kH2UXlW0 And Rainbow Blaxx, did any of you know Jaekyung herself came up with their logo and the physical CD artwork herself? Makes me wonder if the CEO's wife even paid her for her work. DSP could've been something, but they're not going to be anymore and all I can see is them going straight downhill. FYI, the CEO is awake from his coma last I heard, but is still bedridden and is in no shape to run DSP. That was the other thing too, all 5 KARA members were close with the CEO and for the longest time his wife never let KARA see him. She'd keep telling KARA she would after the next promotion and I think they may finally have like 2 years after he had been in a coma. The sad thing is after every award KARA won, they'd always still thank him so it was really heartbreaking. DSP is a privately owned company which is why the CEO's wife took over after he had a stroke and went into a coma initially.

But that is not the main issue here. DSP released 2 extremely successful girl groups which were Fin.K.L, and KARA.... And adding Sechs Kies which was rival to H.O.T (but not as successful as H.O.T).... I mean what I am trying to say is the fall of DSP Media was inevitable. The Hallyu Wave had gone away after 2011, and the kpop groups slowly lost their footing in Japan.... I actually thought KARA would be able to stand tall, but KARA also sadly took the effect.... KARA was also trying very hard unlike other kpop groups to learn Japanese language, and its culture, so I am devastated that they lost popularity in Japan. Yeah, they were up for contract renewal shortly after the CEO's wife took over which is why they were unable to negotiate new terms. In DSP's CEO's case, he was a heavy smoker and had a brain aneurysm which ended up putting him in a coma. That's also why even though he's regained consciousness, he's still bed ridden and still not all there, so to speak.
