Laure Shang Wrapup

Another week another request. Let's make this a short one cus my headache just went away and i'd rather it not come back trying to think too hard writing this. I like Laure. She's interesting and not your typical cpop artist. She's done various genres such as ballads, pop, electronic pop, folkish rock, some darker experimental type stuff, etc. Add onto that the fact that she sings in 4 different languages: mandarin, cantonese, english, and french. The Ms. Lane Crawford song has 3 of them in it. I didn't mean to have the four languages for the four featured songs, it just kinda worked out that way haha.

This also leads to my biggest complaint about her though. Well more of an annoyance i guess. I really don't like how she will sing an old song in a different language, change the song title, and put it a new album. It just confuses me and makes me wonder if it's an old song or a new one. The Graceland album was really only three songs but those three songs had a mandarin version and an english version. I've heard that when she does this she changes the composition a little bit and the lyrics are all new but to someone like me who doesn't understand the language, it still sounds like the same song. I think she's done Asura in 3 different languages already. There's Asura, Love Warrior, and Paint My World. All the same song, or at least based of the same melody.

She's still very good and I recommend checking her out. You can start with Ode to the Doom. It's a pretty strong album and probably half of the songs i used is from it.

Whaaaat D:

But it's Laure Shang!

*sighs*

I really like Laure Shang. She's one of the very few singers in my iTunes library that I can confidently say is truly an unique and talented artist. In addition to the 4 languages that Tony wrote, she also knows Spanish and German (self-taught!). Like that's what, 6 languages now? *___*

Regarding the different versions of one song with somewhat-same melody - yes the lyrics are changed, the context is different~ While it may seem confusing (and albeit tedious i.e to Mr. Hemlock) but I thought it was pretty cool (and creative) of Laure that she didn't just simply translated the original song into whatever language she wants it to - and yet instead, write new lyrics. :D

Well at least, for me that's cool since I understand both languages and can compare the two~

One complaint that I have about her is that she uses autotune at times. Like really, she has a really gorgeous voice already and utilizing autotune is making it worse, not better. But then, since when using autotune is a good idea  :omgwtf:
