Whats the difference from visual and Face of the group?

visual: the most "attractive" of the group

face: in my opinion, the person you think of that represents the group most, the most recognizable, whether through their talent or personality etc.

ex. Minho is the "visual" of SHINee, but when I think of the group, Onew immediately pops into my mind, not just because he's the leader, but I feel he's the most well rounded person and represents shinee well.

I think

Visul is the prettiest member and Face is the most popular member. Sometimes Face & Visual are only one person (eg. Sohee from Wonder Girls and Yoona from Girl's Generation) but

sometimes Face and Visual are two different person (eg. Minah is the face of Girl's Day while Yura (former Hyeri, former former Jihae) is the visual.

I am not sure of the differences too.

I remember I read somewhere that in Apink, Naeun is the visual while Eunji is the face. Then I got even more confused about the two positions :/

The 'visual' is the person considered being the prettiest/handsomest/best looking member of the group

The 'face' of a group is basically the person you think of when said group is named. Basically who has the most public recognition.

example: When someone mentions the group 'Big Bang,' Gdragon most likely pops up in their brain first. However, he is not considered the best looking. TOP is the visual.

The 'face' and the 'visual' can also be the same person. During the beginning days of SNSD, the general consensus was that Yoona was both the 'face' and the 'visual.' When people hear SNSD, they automatically thought of Yoona most likely. She brought in a lot of fans due to her acting in YAMD drama during debut. Yoona was always front & center during performances, you couldn't miss her. She was also known to be the prettiest in the group at the time. Nowadays however, the 'face' might debatable for SNSD. A lot of people might say it is Taeyeon. I think it might change every other comeback actually.

From what I see, the 'face' of the group changes over time, but the 'visual' usually stays the same. This is how I understand it.

One's official, and the other is made up by international fans, thereby confusing the shit out of everyone unnecessarily.

I wouldn't say it's made up by international fans, necessarily.

For example, Naeun is the visual of Apink but everybody in Korea recognizes Eunji as the "face"--the representative-- of the group.

TOP is the best looking in Big Bang but GD is the representative member, and so on.

To some extent Koreans do acknowledge that there is a different between visual and face. A little while back there was a Korean article on Sunggyu where they analyzed his tv personality and his popularity and it talked about how through his variety stints he has become the "face" of Infinite, as the member that even non-fans of idols recognize. We all know though that L is the visual though (and recognized in his own right as well).

Even though there isn't such a thing as the title of "face" of the group, I think that in people's minds it does exist.

but isn't face like suppose to be like the prettiest one in the group?

I mean because it says face ? lol if you have a pretty face the your the face in the group ? right?

In this case they don't literally mean "face", they mean representative, or in other words the person who most people think of at first. For example, Steve Jobs was the face and brain of Apple. It's not that he was the prettiest man in the company, but rather their head, the guy that everybody knew. YG and Lee Sooman are the faces of their companies, but neither are particularly attractive men either.

it doesn't work like that. face in this context just basically means the promoter of something. to put this into perspective, think of exo-k. kai is the face of exo-k for obvious reason. he's often the lead in their MVs (think growl, overdose, mama), he get more lines and screentime in CF's, and in photoshoots, he sometimes has a couple more frames than the other members. (in fact, the last time exo-k posed in a kolon sport mag, he had his centerfold.) this is because kai represents the 'exo' brand. the visual on the other hand is sehun. sehun is the visual because he has desirable features and is known to be very good looking.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the "face" and "visual" difference is just an i-fan thing? I don't think I've seen interviews or features about K-pop where one member is referred to as the "face" and then another as the "visual". I've seen both being used interchangeably, tho.

But from what I've seen in i-forums, a lot of people say "visual" is like  the holder of the center spot and deemed to be the most beautiful in the group (Yoona, Suzy, Dara, Sulli), while the "face" is the most popular(?) member (CL, Eunji).

From what I know, visual is the "prettiest member of the group" while the face of the group is someone who more or less represents the group. The person who happens to be the most well known or the first person you think of would be the face? Of course, I don't think "face of the group" is an official term, so it's not like this person is the representative of the group. An example with be Naeun being the visual while Eunji is the face. Eunji probably has the most recognition of the group because she's been active in dramas and things like that, so she'd be the face of the group.
