My boyfriend is a LOL player and he is aspiring to take a qualifying test for a team early next year, he is very passionate about this and his parents and friends (cpt Jack ) really think he could make it..

I believe in him too but I'm not really experienced at gaming or at dating so any advice?

First off, what is his username?

Second what team?

The thing with dating a potential pro gamer is you MUST be ready for a long distance relationship. Pro gamers practice upwards to 16 hours a day, and depending on the team, even social media will be blocked. Therefore, you should be ready to a) not see him often, and b) possibly not talk often.

Korean LOL pro gamer are well respected in the professional gaming scene. Some of the popular one are Faker, Madlife and etc.. Hmm Just be patient cause they go everywhere with their games... I'm hoping to see him on the World Series... Yeah i play LOL and watch OGN/LCS/EULCS and etc.... Just support him well and be patient with your relationship.

EDIT: Scrimmage and etc. take up a lot of their time, so be extra careful. He might get angry a lot easier because of the pressure and he is tired..

I'm not really sure while I knew he played LOL I didn't know he was trying to go pro so I haven't really asked much about the details. All I know is that he is a Diamond I He just told me yesterday about his plans.

Is the 16 hour thing something very common? I read that sometimes they have to move in into team houses is it true ?

Interesting.

The fact that he is looking to go pro means that he must already have a team set-up and ready to try and challenge for a spot.

16 hours is more geared toward Korea, in North America, most teams will go 10-12 hours.

He will most definitely have to move into a gaming house if he wants any chance of succeeding in the pro scene.

Its all true but its also really hard to get into these teams. So don't worry too much, getting into these teams is like debuting in kpop.

Some pro gamers make good money. Some make what your average office worker makes a year but with worse hours. Most don't make anything at all.

I followed alot of pro-gamer scenes a few years back and what I can make out most is that there are very few who have made long term careers out of it. Big names such as the Ogres, Fatal1ty, TSquared, Daigo etc can suddenly find themselves going from making 6 figures US a year to being broke when the scene passes them by.

Tell the dude to not fuck whatever schooling he is doing up. Plus have a back up plan.

If you like him and are willing to let him spend most of his day playing games, then just be supportive. Show interest in what he does, ask him if his practice went well, and if he has free time asking to go out to get him to relax and take his mind of the game a bit.

he is korean so he is taking the test there and if he doesn't get in he will enlist in the army.. The latter which I would rather he didn't have to do right away

If he moves in to a house.. Then we wouldn't be able to see each other then? Is there any that live with their girlfriends or wives in a gaming house?

If he makes the team then kiss goodbye to any chance of having a meaningful relationship. You'll just be the window dressing for the 30 minutes each day he won't eating, sleeping or playing.
