Help - Itunes forcing me to restore Ipod!!!

So my iPod for some reason is having a breakdown and now when I sync it to itunes, its coming up saying its a new ipod, so I have two options, go through with it as a new ipod or restore. Only thing is I havent backed up since 2012, so I have lots of new songs.

I don't want to have to click new ipod as everything will be wiped off.

Is there anything I can do before I write down everything I have on there and let it get wiped and have to put it all back on manually please as this will take forever!

Thanks

Did you already do it or no?

Try this, when you connect your iPod, go to view it instead of your iTunes. There should be like a summary/settings tab thing, and go just search around until you see something that says "Manually manage songs and videos". Go ahead and checkmark the box next to that.

Basically now whenever you want to add in new music, you just select the files on your iTunes with your iPod plugged in and drag it into the iPod symbol/tab of your iTunes and it'll sync it into your iPod without erasing old files~

iTunes

So plug in your iPod to your iTunes and there should be the iPod symbol popping up on the top right, click on that and hmm lemme see if I can find a vid LOL

Ah right, i cant do that though unfortunatley, it just takes me to new ipod page.

did you end up restoring it yet? if you didn't do it yet just "x" out all the windows that pop up telling you to restore it and you should be fine i think? it worked for me last night! just whatever you do, don't hit the restore button.

This is really funny, but I feel like killing myself!!

I've just saved all of my music manually which took about 5 hours into folders before selecting new ipod.

I've just selected new Ipod and nothing has changed, so I've just wasted 5 hours haha.

At least now I don't have to do anything.

The alternative is unchecking auto-sync, opening the ipod as a storage device (like you would a flash drive), and then drag your files out to your harddrive. That at least will keep them.

Glad it didn't wipe your ipod, though. That would suck.

:._.:

I really should invest in an external harddrive one of these days.

Yeah I'm made up it didn't wipe but..........

New problem

Now the new Ipod thing has stopped appearing, I can't edit my ipod at all now because it comes up with a message saying cannot sync as there is no room, accept I can't even delete music to make room. What do I do??

If you turned off auto sync, that might be why the ipod isn't showing up in itunes.

You should still be able to access what's on the ipod like a storage device. I tried it on mine and it's only giving me the option to import pictures and video (under My Computer -> Portable Devices -> right click -> import pictures and videos) - but if you have a lot of videos on yours, that takes up a lot of space, and the import process gives you the option to auto-delete from the ipod what you've just imported. Which should be okay, provided it all works properly.

I think there are shareware or freeware programs out there that help pull music off of ipods - it's what I had to do when my old computer died and I needed to transfer what I had on my old little ipod into a new itunes library.

I should ask if you're using an ipod, itouch, or iphone. Some of the info I'm finding is only relevant to one or the other.

Finally got it working!!! Thank god haha, I was starting to go crazy. All I did was delete a few songs off my ipod, but i deleted directly off the ipod rather than plugging it in and doing it on itunes.
