Joy: It hasn’t been long since we debuted but people are giving us so much love. When I heard about our ranks on music sites, it was so unexpected that I didn’t believe it. We have to work hard with a thankful heart.

 

Red Velvet: We dreamt to be singers as we watched other people too. We also want to be someone’s dream. We want to be artists like the seniors in our company who introduces K-pop to people and get to influence the whole world. We are also aiming to be singers who give bright and good energy to people.

 

“Many people told us that we look like puppies. Haha. Of course, on the first day, we felt really awkward. We wondered, ‘Can we go out with our hair like this?’ ‘Would this be able to capture the hearts of the fans?’ The colors were even more vibrant back then. But now we think that many people recognize us thanks to our hair and show their interest,†expressing its satisfaction. 

 

Q. As Red Velvet succeeded in standing out with its eye catching hair color, it emphasized ‘color’ throughout the interview. As the group with its own unique color, what do they think makes them charming?

Red Velvet: “It’s being refreshing and petite. Many celebrities these days are tall and have nice bodies but we’re small so people might feel closer to us.â€

But Red Velvet claimed that it can also pull off ‘sexy concept.’ “As we have the word ‘red’ in our group name, we also have sexiness hidden within us. If we showed soft and refreshing charms this time, I think that our group can show ‘red’ in the future.â€

• Her voice sounds beautiful. When we look at her, it feels like we are looking at a Disney Animation. We were really shocked when she sang during the company's evaluation session. Her voice timbre is very clean and has a deepness to it. Because of it she can sing trot too. Shes good at anything. It's because overflowing with talents. Joy's the eldest sibling in her family and the maknae in Red Velvet, but she acts the oldest when at home. Maybe that is why she has a mature side and she also likes to listen to her unnies’ problems. Of course, she also has a lot of aegyo too.

• We really like her fresh smile. The first time when she entered SM as a trainee, she sang very well that shocked us so much. At that time, there wasn’t a voice like hers. She also know how to sing Pop songs very well. That’s why when we find a song that we like, we always ask Wendy to sing it for us. She was also a smart student when she was in Canada.

• She is so pretty!. At first we could not even go near her because she was too pretty. She has that kind of smile where she lifts the corner of her mouth and has a beautiful smile . Shes a leader full of abilities. She usually likes to joke around and is really friendly with other people, but if we do something wrong, she will give us a good scolding and point out our mistakes. At that time, we can really feel that she is our Unnie. And if you confess or tell her about your problem, she will warmly hug you. She looks like a girl but she has a lot of  charm.

• She has oriental beauty and a western charm at the same time. Even though she doesn’t have double eye lids, she looks beautiful because her eyes are big. She sing and dance very well maybe because she trained for so long. She has a very beautiful voice, but also a powerful one that makes her able to pull off any kind of song genre. Since shes approachable, she can make you easily like her. She is not an emotional person so she is not a person who gives up very easily, and she is a type that works really hard and doesn’t lack when it comes to talent.

Joy:  It hasn’t been long since I dreamt to be a singer. I’m the eldest daughter so I wanted to study hard and my dream was to be a teacher. I stood up on stage once during our school trip and I sang Cherryfilter’s ‘Flying Duck.’ The moment I sang a verse of the song and heard the cheers of the audience, I knew the taste of the stage. Since then, I thought that rather than studying I want to go to music.

 

I’m the eldest and I couldn’t tell my parents, so I asked my friends about trying out to audition. My parents didn’t expect it, but SM GLOBAL audition became the first audition that I tried.

UFO replies are the replies that they (korean celebrities) send to their fans.

On the UFO site, you can send your idols any message that you want, and if you're lucky, they might reply to your message!
You're also able to send text messages to them, and they sometimes reply back to you. (Of course, it's not their personal phone. They have separate phones just for their UFO replies.)
However, there's a catch. You have to be a Korean citizen or have a Korean ID number to sign up at the site. But! You can still look for their UFO replies on sites like Youtube. Search (idol name) UFO replies.
