On July 24th, 2014...

On July 24th, 2014, Luhan completed his filming task in the movie “Back to 20†as a rookie actor. From June 18 to July 24, a month filled with joy, bitterness, both sweet and sour feelings, he was humble, hard working, serious, sincere, and as an actor, he’s drawn a perfect period to his first journey as an actor.

In this one month, Luhan fans continuously communicated with the cast and crew, and surprisingly got to hear a story about him from behind the scenes. This story holds endless warmth as well as bitterness, and the main character of the story is gentle yet resilient. The first time we heard it, we thought that, no matter what, we want more people to know of it.

After some hard work, finally, today we received permission from the staff to tell you guys this story.

The beginning of the story is not an ideal one.

On July 14, a four-square picture was posted on Instagram, and it was clearly a screencap of a video taken secretly in a private room. The lighting in the picture was dim, and it was difficult to determine the environment. The only thing visible was a familiar figure. He was thin, a little tired, and sitting alone in the dark.

Out of worry, our members (the fans) asked the filming crew to show the picture to him and his manager. The original intent was to alert the staff and remind him to be careful, and protect himself well.

To our surprise, he sent back a message. He said, â€thank you, I’m used to it.â€

In the scenes filmed later that day, whether it’s because he knows fans are worried, I’m not sure, but he performed even more energetically than before. A bright mood, a warm smile, and he even happily interacted with the extras on the set.

When the extras left, they cheered him on, “Lu ge, do your best!â€

The corner of his lips turned upwards, he nodded slowly, and made a heart.

He’s someone who’s not good at speaking. When he feels sad for his fans he doesn’t know how to comfort them, so he can only smile brighter, and work harder.

He’s someone who will never learn to complain and whine. Even with the continuous invasion of privacy from sasaeng fans, at his most angry he made a Weibo post, but most of the time, while being very clear about where he stands, he keeps the feelings to himself. Even when fans express their worry for him, he can only reply comfortingly, “thank you, I’m used to it.â€

Just six short words, but the many incidents that happened without our knowledge, even just a guess feels like it’s tugging at our hearts.

Thinking back to the interview shortly after his debut, the interviewer asked him how everyone has changed since debut.

He looked into the camera, paused for a moment then said, “the celebrity life we’re living now is a little different from the celebrity life I had imagined before.â€

The interviewer then proceeded to ask him, “how is it different?â€

He thought for a moment, and replied honestly, that before debut he would think, after performing on stage, he can go home and eat whatever he wants, do whatever he wants, hang out wherever he wants. But now after performing, when he gets home, he can’t eat anything he wants to in fear of his face bloating the next day, he can’t go out like he wants to, and even if he does, he has to dress up because the fans might see him, and he has to be strict with keeping the idol image.

The ideal world is always pure. He wants to enjoy the stage, enjoy the feeling of being an idol, and at the same time he wants to enjoy his youth, enjoy having his own life and friends. But after debut he realized, everything is different from what he had previously imagined.

When he goes out to shop, sasaeng fans block his way, take pictures, ask for signatures, follow after him and yell out to him.

When he opens Weibo, along with the countless words of encouragement come the ruthless hate and slander.

When he goes home for the new year, some people actually follow all the way from the airport to his house, continuously disturbing the family he treasures the most and works the hardest to protect.

The bright stage lights don’t just shine upon the path of his career, it also destroys the protective layer of his daily life. During a short vacation, a rare reunion, he still can’t move away from the attention and the people who desire to look into his life. This desire stretches into ugly thorns, and, like an inescapable cage, moves toward his friend and his family, trapping this 24 year old young man tightly within.

But what does he do.

At the airport when he was pushed over by the out of control crowd, his first reaction was to turn and see whether the fans got hurt.

When his members received disturbing phone calls from sasaengs, he would snatch the phone from them and say “Please don’t call anymore†and even remembers to politely say “thank youâ€.

At the parking lot when he was harrassed by sasaengs chasing his car, he couldn’t bear it and posted a Weibo calling out the action, but in the end, because he was worried the consequences would hurt the girl, he deleted the picture.

Decisive, reasonable, principled, and gentle. As if he knows the world is full of sharp thorns, but you can either take a sword and face it bravely, or you can treat it with kindness.

24 years old, for most young adults that’s the age they step out of school and into society. But the 24 year old Luhan had already lived with the disturbance from sasaengs for two years.

Along the way many people, using “love†as the reason, forcibly add even more weight on his back.

He only walks and looks down, choosing not to express it, because in his heart, he has to stand firmly upright and be as strong as an iron wall.

With time, some people become used to his strength and take it for granted. You can often see people say off-handedly, “it’s okay, it’s fine, Lu ge is a real man, don’t worry, there’s no need to worry.â€

This kind of mentality is like the vines quietly growing from the cracks between the wood, and over time it builds up, until it eventually uses up all the passion and love there is.

More and more thoughtless tease him about his mental strength, more and more thoughtless people carelessly talk and joke about his private life, more and more thoughtless people take his kindness to mean acceptance.

And in the end, all he can say is a helpless “thank you, I’m used to it.â€

He is great, he is strong, but he also needs your wholehearted love and protection.

"Back to 20" is the first stop in his acting journey, and the experiences will hopefully help us and him become stronger and more mature.

We hope that everyone who’s been on the receiving side of his warmness and strength will be determined to hold on to their original wish. Just watching him, supporting him, loving him in the best way possible, moving forward with him towards the next stop of vast seas and open skies.

It's quite sad that he (or the rest of the members won't be able to enjoy their time as a youth) and I agree with his quote â€œthe celebrity life we’re living now is a little different from the celebrity life I had imagined before," because nowadays news travel so fast.

But then again, they have the dollars.

"He said, â€thank you, I’m used to it.â€

Wow, that secret photo isn't even something he should have to be used to :wth:

But Luhan seems quite amazing. This is making me see him in an even better light than I did already. And how polite to fans he is after all those levels of intrusion he has to deal with from sasaeng fans speaks volumes.

I wish idols didn't have to deal with such a high level of fans barging into every aspect of their private lives.

The fact that he's used to sasaengs taking pictures of him in a private room and harassing him is just sad. I really hope out of all the negative things that come with being an idol, he can find even more positive aspects of it because he worked so hard and sacrificed a lot to achieve his dreams.

I feel sad knowing that he just have to deal with this all.  Such a big privacy invasion as a hidden camera in his hotel room is not something any idols should have to become used to :._.:

(Also, the phone call when he hung up on the person that called Tao. :stare: Luhan, you really are a good brother to your members. )
