Johnny & Associates president Fujishima Julie Keiko resigns, Higashiyama Noriyuki takes over

Fujishima Julie Keiko, the president of Johnny & Associates, has resigned amid allegations that its late founder Johnny Kitagawa had sexually abused minors for decades.

 

A press conference was held on September 7 where Fujishima admitted to the sexual misconduct of her uncle, which is the first time that the agency has ever publicly acknowledged it. With her resignation, Higashiyama Noriyuki has been appointed the company's new president. He will be retiring from showbiz at the end of the year and work on providing compensation for the victims together with Fujishima. 

 

A external probe set up to investigate Kitagawa concluded on August 26 that Kitagawa had sexually abused members of the agency for decades. Moreover, they found that Kitagawa's family members had known of the abuse and did not do anything to stop him. The reports recommended that Fujishima step down from her role, and demanded apologies and compensation for the victims.
