[teens stories] ISN'T SNOW WHITE THAT IS ABOUT TO COME OUT WAY WORSE THAN LITTLE MERMAID?

Peter Dinklage

After his comment about "Snow White casted someone dark-skinned as the lead, so why are they leaving behind people with dwarfism? This shows Disney's hypocrisy", following Disney getting rid of the 7 dwarfs, they decided to replace them with a magical creature

And to remove the cliche that "The prince woke her up with a kiss" they got rid of the prince completely

The plot also changed from a prince to an ordinary man who helps the princess in order to make the princess an independent woman

If they're going to change that much, just don't use the name Snow White at all, and make a new work no?

2. [+35, -0]

If you look at that actress' way of handling her characters, she's the same as Halle Bailey, which is even more hilarious. We're talking about Snow White, someone who is supposed to have snow-like skin, if you're an actress, shouldn't you pick roles that are suited for you? This is the mindset you should have. I'd be shocked to see this movie do well

3. [+34, -0]

They should start by changing the title of Snow White, they should be as white as snow, if they're going to cast people like that, then we're losing the whole meaning of Snow White

4. [+28, -0]

Snow white literally means she needs to be as white as snow, instead, they should go with Snow Black for a modern take of it :0

5. [+19, -0]

Huh? The original title is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, what's the point of the plot if they're going to remove the dwarfs...? And also the prince

People are too sensitive these days and make nothing out of everything. Anyway I’ve always thought the live action remakes were a bad choice, just make new content! People are bursting with creativity, utilise it!

i remember that a lot of actors with dwarfism weren't happy with Dinklage's comments because he basically screwed them out of roles by speaking on their behalf, i'm actually curious what Disney has planned if the dwarf characters aren't gonna be in the movie

Dwarf actors rarely get roles in movies, then when they finally have the opportunity...

Of course, it is easy for him to say all that bullshit since he already made his millions and got all the fame and prestige. I think actors should act and that's it.

disney live actions are getting worse and worse in my opinion

recently the only one i kind liked was the peter pan live action but only bc this time they didn't tried to make peter look like he was the good guy. we all know that he was twisted and creepy in the original tale version.

Said that, i noticed this is the main problem with disney live actions. it seems to me they are trying to appeal to everyone and taking things from the original source and then no one like the end result (not the fans of the original story and much less the fans of the disney version)

they completly ruined mulan for me bc of that. we like mulan bc she tried hard and didn't give up not bc she was the chosen one and have chi or whatever it was
i usually don't mind with 456785678 versions and alterations of tales of cinderella, snow white, etc created by other studios but this is disney and you expect them to be as faithful as possible as their own version bc that is what people that grew up with the cartoon liked so i dont get their choices for some things they changed

And then there is also the "problem" of they are trying to be more representability, which their old tales' animation clearly don't have. i usually don't have much problem with it but sometimes i think they are trying too hard to be inclusive and piss eveyone with it

if they are so desperate to have representativity in their movies, i would be interested to see a live action of "the princess and the frog" but partially scared they would changed things for stupid motives

Anyway, i just think it would be better if they just create new stories instead of continuing wrongly adapt their own version of tales

Disney stays on whatever agenda is currently being pushed, appealing to the sensitives, broken feminism, and other ridiculous ideas. Everything that they are changing is what made the movie what it was even making Snow White "colored". Like what was said, if so much is changed why not just create something new, plus we need our own, not changing white princesses into black ones because there's is already an idea/image associated with those princesses. Honestly, I don't even claim Princesses and the Frog, she was originally white too and she stayed a frog the whole movie ridiculous.

I think it’s time that we realize that a lot of older (white) princesses have 0 cultural references or ties that would make them being replaced with BIPOC or other minority groups odd. Mind you these stories have already reimagined in other cultures anyways (African Cinderella etc.). People bursting blood vessels over this shit can only be xenophobic or racist, not even gonna sugarcoat it, like everything is very unserious 😭

Well I don't think they care at this point, hollywood has become a shitshow. As long as people talk about the movie, it will bring them money, doesn't matter if it's good or bad stuff.

But they’re losing money that’s the thing

Why even bother using the snow white IP if you're just gonna rewrite everything about the story...because they know their idea would flop without the name recognition.

Not really... I kinda understand the confusion behind this one more than the others (the name). Plot holes like that can be really off-putting, even when they have nothing to do with race, gender, etc.

But honestly, it's not hard to choose a different reason behind her name being Snow White. It's obvious they chose a latina actress because they wanted to assure audiences they weren't reiterating this idea of "fairest skin" = "most beautiful" to children. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

I also don't think there is anything wrong with changes. Snow White and the Huntsman was fun to watch because of how different it is from the 1937 film. The problem with these Disney remakes is that they don't make any INTERESTING changes. They feel like a bland copy of the animated versions. All that money they have and the movies are so lackluster.

I thought he was questioning why the dwarf characters were removed? How does this screw them out of their roles unless this is related to other comments?

No, he criticized Disney for still using dwarves in their story

Ohhh so by leaving behind he meant why they were leaving the dwarves in the story still, and then Disney removed them. Thanks!

These fairy tales originated during a historical period marked by the subjugation of black people as slaves and their overall marginalization. It is vital to contextualize these stories and analyze the underlying messages they convey. The right-wing political machinery has a track record of deliberately manufacturing cultural grievances, exemplifying this pattern. They often amplify insignificant matters to provoke fear and division within society. Recognizing this dangerous tactic is crucial for fostering awareness. The controversy surrounding a Hispanic woman portraying Snow White is unfounded and absurd. It is essential to remember that Snow White is a fictional character, and the casting of a Hispanic actress in the role does not compromise the story. Certain individuals are truly revealing their true colors on here. You have the option to not watch or support Disney!

As someone who has defended Halle Bailey repeatedly for The Little Mermaid, in Snow White's case, the character's fair skin is a crucial part of the character and a motif of the story. We can be flexible and put a fair skinned character that is not necessarily white (they can be pale East Asian), and even that would be stretching it bc "Snow WHITE", you know.

Overall, leave characters whose race is crucial to the story and historical characters untouched. Or... start making newer diverse work so actors are not subjected to racism.

These constant remakes are blatant cash grabs. If A24 didn't exist Hollywood would be shit.

Yeah, let's just conveniently ignore the fact that the characters in this story (and the origin of the story itself) are emphatically EUROPEAN. If we ever invent time travel during our lifetimes, I want you to go back to 16th century Germany and try explaining to them what the hell a "BIPOC" is.
