Men: 60.6%
Women: 39.4%

Age:
10's - 22.1%
20's - 53.1%
30's - 19%
40's - 4.3%
50's 1.3%

original post: here

1. If they have a 6:4 ratio, they are pretty evenly popular between men and women?

2. Hul 6:4.. so they are a male-fans-dominant group...

3. This is such a good ratioㅎㅎ

4. They are the pick of men in their 20'sㅋㅋㅋㅋ

5. Woah I thought that they were a female-fans-dominant group.. everyone around me who likes them are all girls

6. Wow I thought that they mostly had female fans

7. I have a male friend who doesn't really fanboy on anyone but the only groups he likes are Twice and NewJeansㅋㅋㅋ

8. You guys have such inferiority complex towards them and it shows with how you guys want to quit the fandom just because of thisㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ They have the same ratio as Twice and Soshi so it's perfect

9. Hul I thought they have mostly female fans

10. Le Sserafim's concept appeals more to girls but because of Chaewon and Sakura, their ratio is kinda similar to NewJeans'

11. NewJeans really has everything from public recognition to fandomㅋㅋㅋ

EDIT: PC MISTRANSLATED PERCENTAGES SO I FIXED IT.

That’s Korean 20’s yes, so that means it might be mainly made up of 18/19 yr olds, at least one hopes so.

The fact that there's no one concerned in those pulled comments.

It was creepy then when they were underage/in their 10s and it's still creepy now with NWJS.

That's a pretty normal distribution, very similar to what Twice was earlier on (actually a bit less Male).

Pretty consistent that the (international) teens groups are most popular with men in the late teens to 20s age group in Korea, particularly if they don't have the "Girl Crush" concept targeted towards women. I'd generally take this to mean that NewJeans is a pretty mainstream group that might actually be appealing a bit more to women than average for their age/concept.

I can understand finding them adorable or cute, even bieber had these older women fans ( who were also problematic), but to actually see more men combined in their 30/40's than 20 somethings is just weird and alarm bells go off. Why are they celebrating this age diversity?

Sometimes it is good if it's only ment for younger crowd

People refuse to acknowledge this is an issue since Soshi days (when I became a Kpop fan, but this has been going on since ever). “Uncle fans” my ass; you know exactly what these creeps are thinking.

You could try to say that maybe all these 19% men in 30 are the fathers of the 22% children in their 10, but still, It's pretty clear that Min Hee-jin did again.

lol, people's obsession with her is silly.... this is what K-pop has been since the start the only difference between Min Hee-jin and everyone else is she's one of the few women in the industry. Who do you think IU's fans were (Nation's little sister had a TON of "uncle fans"? Or Wonder Girls, or KARA, etc. etc. This is what it's always been, girl groups that are more popular with female fans is actually pretty new (EXID was one of the first I remember) they were always targeting men, and the creepy uncle fans were always a core demo, particularly for the "young, innocent" concept groups.

Ah, yes. I forgot that just because there are other creeps in the industry, the female pervert gets a pass. How silly of us. Surely because there are other, older, male creeps in the same industry, it absolves her from sexualizing children.

Do you people even think twice before clicking that reply button?

I didn't say she is absolved, I pointed out the truth which is that for some reason people get hyperfixated on her when nothing she has done is different than literally almost every single kpop group.

Sure a very limited number debut with all adults, but the vast majority of kpop groups debut with minors, and all of them are sexualized, it's the entire business model. The entirety of fandom is sexualizing idols, then complaining that other people are sexualizing them.

People hyperfixate on her because they don't want to confront that the whole business is by it's nature sexualized and that the vast majority of groups are intentionally built with at least some minors because it is what sells.

I was pointing out that people love to pick out one person or one group, or even one company and pretend it is some unique fault rather than the basis for the entire industry. It's the highest form of self-delusion, and it's why K-pop so rarely reforms in any way.

What you are doing is normalising the practice of exploiting young kids. Even she is one of many, she is still a problem. I think people had the same reaction JYP when it came to Twice, so this isn't unknown and people have been loudly criticising this behaviour for a long time.

If fans came ( like yourself) together, perhaps there would be a change. But as long as everyone attitude is, "why single her out everyone is doing it as well" than things won't change

No, I'm doing the opposite. I'm pointing out that it is a systemic issue, and that people's obsession with blaming everything on MHJ trivializes it into an individual person/group problem. If MHJ never worked with NewJeans... they'd probably still have 60%+ male fans, the vast majority 20+, that's just how the entire demographics of girl groups in Korea generally has worked for close to 3 decades now.

My point was never that MHJ isn't a weirdo and kind of a creep, or that since other creeps are there we shouldn't worry, but rather that focusing on that every time the issue comes up misses the forest for a single tree, it's a complete misunderstanding of where the issue comes from and why, and you can't take action or hope to effect change if you don't understand what the actual cause of something is.

I'm not saying "why single her out" I'm saying "hey, stop getting distracted by a kind of dumb narrative and look at what the actual cause of the issue is, because the individuals are irrelevant,. t's been a systematic problem since  before MHJ even entered the industry.

MHJ's lolita angle paid off in spades.

That has been her brand for the past 15 years, and she has been very successful and made millions.

Can you show any proof of this statement?

Because the gender/age demographic for a fan meeting is different from that of a concert or the people that use any streaming service.

Because if you do go dig in some of this other metrics, you will see that NJ has a lot more female fans than they have male ones, especially in the older demographic.

Most male fans don't go to these fan meetings because they love the music...

I get your reasoning, but singling out the one that would make noise if she was held accountaible makes more sense. Even 2 years ago people weren't so socially awake as they are now, so perhaps there is a change coming and people should take down those who work for big companies. That is how you make a statement as fan.
