Twitter announces plan to remove all inactive accounts

well that's stupid, there are tons of accounts that have become inactive due to countless reasons (death of the owner, retirement, hiatus, etc) yet the content in them is still valuable, imagine if libraries burned books that haven't been read in years?

too bad that "Ripme" stopped working but "Gallery-dl" and "Jdownloader" can still download account's pictures, maybe worth checking if there is something you want to save

at the very least there is some push back from major names, this guy is the creator of the "DOOM" video game series and of Oculus Vr, Elon doesn't give a shit about normal people but maybe big shots in the Tech industry can change his mind

Has he stated any reasoning behind the decision? I understand deleting inactive accounts if it was a similar law like in Webkinz (yes I am using a kids' game as an example) where you aren't allowed to have a kid's data for more than 7 years, but what would be the reason for twitter to do so?

a few weeks ago Elon Musk got into a fight with a news site, the later as protest decided to stop tweeting so people speculate that part of his reasons behind the decision is that this is a way to force them to come back

and that sounds incredible petty

Reading tweets from people who lost their dead family members' accounts that they used as a memorial up until this point made me so sad

you honestly end feeling attachment to their accounts and end thinking of them as an extension of the person, hopefully he changes his mind

yeah, it's sad

i've been checking on my friend's instagram account for years just to remember he was once there despite it only having a silly dp and no posts. our inbox is full of memes, jokes and love. i screenshotted so much of it, but i love seeing it in one place
