Bambam under fire for calling NewJeans’ Haerin his ideal type

Recommended Posts

Min Hee-jin really was targeting a market. WHAT A SHOCKER.

I guess her boy group would be equally young as NJ, and she'll make even more money. Hurray.

More minors debuting.

Her boy group is going to be the same old racist BS too. No dark skin asians (or blasians) but they'll still prioritize eurrrasians over them.

Gawd, please watch the full video. Context does matter.

He didn't even call Haerin his ideal type to begin with.

In the video he kept clarifying that he found Winter and Haerins voices and songs healing and looked at them as a fan. He literally said please do not take it the wrong way.

The host made him choose between his 'ideal types' but he did not pick and choose on those basis alone. When Haerin was brought up as an option he said it was dangerous given she's young, because he knew people would take it the wrong way. Then the host said you can choose as a fan. And he kept saying do not misunderstand you guys, and emphasize as a fan he likes her vocals and music.

Like the dudes fully aware, fans even asked him to bring NewJeans on his show and he sternly said NO because they are too young.

Accusing him as something so serious from some cut clips, like have people not learned to jump the gun on things?

EDIT: TRANSLATION TIME STAMP OF THE CLIP+

why was this even a fucking question the interviewer is sick in the head. and ideal type means IDEAL TYPE let's not kid ourselves. "you can look with a fan's heart".......what does that even mean. an ideal type means exactly what it is, it's not "my ideal type of idol" and the reaction of the interviewer CLEARLY saw it as a romantic interest not a fanboy interest. and he answered her IMMEDIATELY (when Nayeon was right there and is 28) and THEN said "but she is too young" like the fact that it even came to your mind to call the 16 year old your ideal type..........creepy. super creepy.

i still think about how i was in a kpop store in New York City during the winter and EVERYONE i saw purchasing Newjeans albums were men, and one was a man who was AT LEAST in his 30s office worker. there is a definite market there and anyone who believes otherwise is willfully stupid.

It literally means he is a fan, and said multiple times throughout the video to not misunderstand? He's not once mentioned Haerin as his ideal type until she was brought up again in the game. He chose her and was like wait a minute, do not take it the wrong way again. He's aware that she's young that is why he's clarified multiple times throughout the video before and after the game, making it clear that he's just a fan. The game also obviously swayed from the 'ideal type' situation. He was picking based on other things as well.  Like I don't know how more direct he has to be to get that across to people.

i don't doubt NewJeans attracts some dubious people to them, but Bambam is not one of them. This is a pretty intense thing to accuse him of such, so I rather people actually watch the full video before coming to a conclusion based on some cut clips.

i watched the video. they asked ideal type, he said Haerin, and THEN he said, "but she's so young", and THEN they said "it can be as a fan". why would he even answer that she's his ideal type FIRST like that. sorry but i, as someone who is Bambam's age, would never answer "yes a 16 year old boy is my ideal type" straight away, i wouldn't even name them at all. it's sketchy still.

Did you watch from the beginning where he's stated he looked at them as a FAN'?? To the end after where he's reiterated it again?  He NEVER said Haerin was his ideal type and immediately clarified AGAIN as soon after he picked her in the game given her age, as he did not want people to MISUNDERSTAND. He did not need to bring up her age at all in the game, and could've moved on from there but he stopped to give clarification as he knew people would read into it as something more than it was. Which, clearly people are.

I saw the full context and tbh I’m still majorly side-eyeing him. I thought it was kinda weird when he was doing the NJ dance challenges randomly on tiktok and even in context here what he said was sketchy.

I was never really into Got7, but I did start liking Bambam because he genuinely seemed like a nice guy and had fun interacting with fans. Guess I thought wrong about him…

She's a weirdo, but pretending that aggressively targeting "uncle fan" creeps with underage gg idols is new with her is kinda silly, half of 4th gen had the "visual" in the group aged like 14-15. Itzy, Ive, Iz*one, IOI etc. etc. Previous gens did it too, but it's really taken off in recent years.

Overall I think this just speaks to the bigger issue of children debuting.

I was thinking "if they ever made it illegal for minors to be idols or singers in general, would it have any negative effects?" I can't really think of any.

It's not like child acting, at the end of the day that HAS to be a thing, and its a lot easier to regulate anyway.

But there's literally no reason why children can't just wait until adulthood to sing and dance for a living, especially in the context of being an idol.

I never said she was the only one, she's just the more prominent one right now.

I mean, JYPE has exploiting the younger member of their groups for ages.

But as you said, if everyone is doing shouldn't be a big deal.

Of course, there will be no dark/black skin members in a Korean idol group, since Koreans are such xenophobic. But will be inevitable to not have a big amount of non Koreans members that are white enough, since a full Korean group is a kinda bad strategy for international success and definitely more difficult to put together as the Koreans become boomers.

He’s trying to sue people for calling him out on being a creep???

I feel like he could have partially redeemed himself if he came out with an official apology/announcement about the “misunderstanding” and clarified what he meant. Though, to go straight to suing people when he’s the one who fucked up??? I’m done with him.

oh this mf trying to sue

i feel like he could've just clarified that he meant he was a fan of Hyelin and he absolutely did not mean it any other way, and that would've been fine......

You guys think another clarification would just do it? That that would satisfy people??? People have already made up their minds about it. And he has already stated multiple times in the video that he was just a fan and to not misunderstand and people stillll won't acknowledge that. It's like you guys are being purposefully obtuse or cherry picking to fit your guys' narrative. Or it also just might be the lack of comprehension and nuance skills. Abyss' last sentence literally said, "try for a better internet culture" aka do better stan kpop. The ability to just run with a 5 second clip without context is scary af. And by then people already again, have made up their minds about it. I hope they actually do take action because that is his livelihood and career that could be affected here from such accusations. If you're going to accuse him as such, then better stick to it if the company comes after you. After all, you've got a moral obligation to follow through with here. 🤡

It was as easy as not picking a teenager as his ideal type. He could have just said, she is too young and even that he finds it weird. But he didn't. The "it's just as a fan" is a poor attempt at covering his ass.

Worst is that there was no statement afterwards. You quote Abyss, but they/he just encouraged his fans to report anything to them, and those fans don't give a fuck whether someone is rightfully rising an eyebrow at his words, or going off the rails and comparing him to creeps like Seungri or Kris (which is obviously wrong, and something I have to say lest fans run off with their own conclusions). Fans only care about doing olympic level backflips to protect oppar at all costs.

What he said is wrong, regardless of intention. Intention does not prevent people from being hurt, weirded out, etc; I know this, you know this, he  knows this, but he chose to go on a witch-hunt of his own instead of taking responsability for his words.

You would think that a grown man would have the common sense to not say he’s a fan of an underage idol especially when the context of the conversation was originally about his ideal types. Not saying BamBam is a pedo or shady but you need to use your brain and understand that anyone with a reasonable brain would side eye him for that statement.

This is not what they’re saying or implying at all… they’re saying it’s basically an industry standard so solely calling out MHJ isn’t gonna do anything, all companies do it and it’s incredibly weird and disgusting

It was mentioned earlier BEFORE that Bambam became a fan of Winter and Haerin and their music out of the idols these days. Bambam obviously thought there was no harm bringing up that he was a fan of Winter and Haerin the first place because he DID NOT MEAN ANYTHING SUGGESTIVE BY IT.

And I'm not sure if the host was aware of her age but that's probably why the host added in Haerin AND Winter into the game. Yes he could've skipped but after he answered he IMMEDIATELY went wait a minute, given the context of the game and her age and said it's dangerous as he did not want people to MISCONSTRUE as to why he picked her.  He knew people could and would interpret it as such as it did come off as misleading, and that's why he mentioned her age and was aware as to how he could come across hence why he EXPLAINED why he picked her on the context of being a fan.

And another thing, to compare this situation to Kris and Seungri's who both have actually been CRIMINALLY CHARGED for far more seriously tangible reasons is freaken ridiculous. I'm doing mental gymnastics? My poor oppar?? It's clear here that everyone came in with a bias already formed as well. And witch hunt? Who's witch hunting who???? Considering Abyss even had to put a notice out there, you don't think Bambam's being called a p*** every minute of every second right now?

And of duh there's no statement afterwords. I've said as much that it most likely wouldn't have changed much of anything. People already have their minds set to what they want to see. He's REPEATED in the video that he only saw her as a fan. He was DIRECT about it, and somehow people are focused on one aspect of the video without taking it in as a whole. So of course the next best course is to take action.

Like I get the automatic negative connotation of being a fan of a younger group and given he is of the opposite gender as well, but in this case he CLEARLY stated he meant well. Accusing him of being a p*** is serious and so again, of course he's going to take action.

how are you on your third essay trying to justify a grown ass man calling a 16 year old his ideal type and you still haven't realised you're doing too much?
