Professional athletes generate millions of dollars so they definitely deserve their share. Plus, they destroy their bodies doing it.

Athletes in sports that don't bring anything to the respective country. For example, in Romania, football players earn a lot and always have investors lined up even tho they never haven't had good results in over 20 years. While, sports like rhythmic gymnastics where we have a history of good athletes lack funding which resulted in the best coaches leaving the country and the national team not being able to train a new generation, making us lose the one thing we were good at in sports.

idk abt other sports but since i watch a lot of football (as in soccer), ive come across a lot of videos showing salaries of teams, mostly of the epl. and some are insane. like some are not even playing like on the bench, or not even picked to be on bench, and get paid 100(s)k/week, i esp notice w keepers, like backup keepers even make more money than the first one if they just have better contract, even tho theyll only play on games not taken seriously ie, a low level team or efl/fa cup game, to rest the main one. yet in 90% their matches they sit on the bench and only if theres injury or booking they get to play. realistically speaking tho its tru...a world class player can last until his late 30s maybe? but generally in their prime around late 20s-30. and a lot prolly fall off after that point, where i dont follow the statistics to what theyd o after such an early retirement,,,hhh. playing fifa career mode tho, what comes to mind is a lot of investing bc those option always popping up to me but idc about them too much. so i feel bad to say they are so overpaid when they get injured so much, but thats another thing like, players can be injured for months and still be paid like, a normal persons, or several ppls, yearly salary in a week. like they have so much fuck you money its insane to me, like even tho they have short careers, the money is still too much

also the argument of athletes deserving high pay bc they ruin their bodies, so do the billions of people doing manual labour for a living but they get paid pennies in comparison

The only thing I’d say about this, is that athletes are a perfect example of labor being fairly compensated. Other fields of employment should be exactly like professional sports but unfortunately higher ups steal wages, cut corner, etc.
