im not that knowledgeable but.
it could be just converted to USD/estimate on the website. alot of marketplace do that u still can choose how u want to pay. 
and it stored using blockchain technology need some kind of crypto wallet .
and minting/generating/creating NFT is not far off with mining crypto. last time i checked it uses alot of energy
