Get the fuck out. Unless you have built a name for yourself in Korea (so that if you fail, you'll at least have something to fall back on). Do not go there. No one will acknowledge you and you will just leave empty pocketed.

Why shouldn't they? Maybe they'll be more appealing to a Japanese audience. I know Cross Gene's been doing better in Japan than they were in Korea, and I'm happy for them~

If you're not noticed in Korea's rather small music market, what makes you think you're going to be big in the second largest music industry in the world?

I could see why they might try their luck in Japan, but nugu acts should try becoming successful in their own country first.

if you failed to work hard and get your name out there in Sk's market, then it won't happen in japan either.

Unless you have a decent footing in Korea already, dont bother going to Japan. In order to get a good start in a foreign market you should have done enough to have built up enough interest from fans in the new market.

Supernova, DGNA, Code-V, SHU-I, and SMASH are all nugus in korea (yall probably never heard of them tbh) and have been making more money in japan then they ever would in Korea.....they found there niche fanbase and had some slight success and they can hold concerts. They all lived and learned Japanese and stayed there for more then a promotional period, they never used Hallyu as a way to hype of their singles..... Unlike the big groups (sans a few) who either release remakes or original songs with horrible Japanese, who don't respect the country enough to attempt to learn the language, who the K-media hypes up everything they do and who are only in japan to tour or promote.

Now if you were in the nugus i listed above would you go back to Korea and continue flopping....or would stay with you loyal fanbase in japan and continue to make music there unnoticed and unbothered? The Answer is simple

At this point esp for boy groups it would take a miracle for them to make in Korea without support from a decent company (b1a4 got lucky tbh). If these nugus are willing to learn and adapt to the Japanese market why the fuck not.....They make more money being a nugu in japan then they would korea

Its idiotic to think that only the rich and popular korean groups should be allowed to get even more rich and popular (or not) in japan....smfh

UKISS arent nugus. Despite the fact that UKISS never wins anything they have a decent group of fans behind them. Im not saying that only the biggest groups should go, but I dont see the point of someone, say a rookie group for example, to debut in Korea, have a flop single, and then go off to Japan immediately. The chances of success are much slimmer than if they at least build something up at home first.

Myname does better in Japan tbh, didn't they sell like 20K albums in Japan vs 11K albums in Korea from their recent feb comeback?

Boyfriend also sells more albums in Japan and Ukiss too , and if I'm not wrong,  Boyfriend already had held solo concerts in Japan , probably easier than holding one in Korea, by easier I meant a higher confidence level on the number of attendees for the concert....

SK relies on digitals heavier than physical that's why most people downloaded their albums, songs and singles online than buying the physicals

Japan on the other than is kinda balanced

Now Nanana you know where I stan in this whole thing

It this point in my mind its all or nobody......

Either every Korean group should have a chance to test out the Japanese market....or none of them should even come at all....or they would have to take the Chenelle route and say fuck korea all together and move in japan permanently

But The whole "they should establish themselves in korea first" mentality that I see in every damn discussion/thread/article about this is not even gonna cut it.....

Isn't that KARA's status in korea got a lot better when they had an explosive success in Japan?

And I think it's unfair to limit the opportunity to those who's already successful. I'm sure hope that people in different countries would have different tastes, or else everything would look/sound/taste the same.

Read somewhere that stated Japan was like 20% digital market vs 80% Physical market or something like that...??? Thats why they have high physicals?

But as long as they can make more money in Japan, then its good for the so called "nugu" groups  I guess, better than disbanding

20k album sale in Japan is still low..especially in a Japanese market....even my bias B1A4 debut there and their album sale is around 30k in their first japanese album and already done 4 concert with 30k audience i still consider it as a flop...

NO....

What are your thoughts? Some say that anyone should have a chance while others say that nugus bring down Hallyu's stock in Japan.

Depends on how they're promoted.

Literally every group that debuted in 2011 tried to play on the hype that SNSD/KARA built up for themselves during winter 2010/2011 and that was probably quite bad long term.

But there's nothing wrong with Korean nugus going to Japan if they're not trying to do horrible mediaplay in Japan.

Myname is a completely irrelevant nugu that nobody has heard of in Japan. The only reason they sold 20k albums in Japan was that they did ridiculous events to milk their fans dry. No trolling, it may not have been more than 2,000 persons that bought 10 copies each on average. If they were doing such ridiculous things in Korea they'd probably sell 20k copies there too.
