"15 amazing albums for beginners to J-pop"

I scrolled thru hmmmmm-ing and then saw the author has an AKTF display pic and realised that explains a lot

for Ayu I would not pick Duty for a beginner. the album is great but (miss)understood and I am... are better entry level imvho

The Secret Code also, while a great album, is a lot to slog through for a noob. TONE or T would be better

Momusu I only know their 1997-2003 stuff so *radio static*

Hikki - First Love is almost too obvious

overall, ehhhhh *noncommittal noises and hand gesture*

And eww Homin albums... Why begin with a group after they peaked?

I love Duty but idk I just feel like I am... and (miss)understood are more accessible for total beginners

T isn't a duo album and furthermore it seems like their peak in Japan has in fact occurred post-split so...

NO.

Too many idols and not that diverse. Like where are the male vocalist and the acts more geared towards rock?

Like for idols Arashi, AKB48, and Momo are good and I see why the "4 queens" are there (although their album choices for them are questionable), but why Kyary Pamyu Pamyu? Also questioning Yui, AAA

I read that as TIME, ie their worst Japanese album. T is a good place though! And their commercial peak was their best album. They haven't really progressed since the The Secret Code. I'm more focused on quality and anything after the split in Japan is just pap for the most part to be honest. It's too KPop.

no wtf

there is no reason to include old albums to a NEW fan

introducing them to old mm members and a retired artist makes zero sense, plus fuck kyary ]

of course there will be alot of idols though, its jpop not japanese music with nugu indies

nah I wouldn't rec TIME to a beginner at all, I like it but obv I'm a fan so I'm more inclined to, it's not a good entry point imo (though its associated tour is great for showing live performances, they really stepped up their performance game)

I know what you mean but I also just prefer their post-split music in general so I'm likely to recommend post-split as well as pre-split albums. but like we talked about before, their Korean albums have become more consistent since then while their Japanese albums aside from TONE have become noticeably more inconsistent though I natch still love them. if this was a k-pop entry level rec list I would probably choose one 5-member album and one duo album as well

I think The Secret Code is a masterful album, don't get me wrong, but for a super newbie I don't know if they would "get" it right away because it's quite a strong concept, which is why I think poppier albums are better at entry level

Pretty much this - this needs to be varied up a LOT.  Honestly, I think you could list 15 albums for each GENRE of J-music and that still might not be enough to capture all of what you can find in each, much less the whole country's music market.

Project: The forum should make our own list.
