Video of OMEGA X’s Jaehan being abused by the group’s CEO released by SBS + members of Omega X’s former groups speak out

Spire Entertainment recently tried to shrug off allegations of physical and verbal abuse of OMEGA X by the company’s CEO, responding that it was all some kind of misunderstanding. However, SBS has just released video evidence of the CEO abusing member Jaehan.

In the video, the CEO insults the group and then moves to berating Jaehan, who seemed to be having some kind of panic attack. When member Taedong tried to step in, the CEO continued yelling before grabbing Jaehan and seemingly pushing him down.

After finishing a post-performance dinner, Kang said to the OMEGA X members, “Why do you think XXs like you deserve to be loved by people? XXs who don’t know what it means to be loved are loved. I know how XXing calculated you are.” Kang yelled at member Jaehan, who was sitting down with symptoms of panic, saying, “Get up. If you get sick like this every day, stop being an idol. […] CEO Kang said, “I know how many times I fell. It hurts to death. I made it all night even if it hurts to death.” They continued to force Jaehan to stand up. “I know how many times I stumbled. I was so sick I could’ve died. Even though I was so sick I could’ve died, I worked all night.” It is reported that CEO Kang’s abusive language continued even after arriving at the hotel. When Taedong tried to move Jaehan, Kang shouted, “You all did this to me. When I was having such a hard time, did you take care of me?” Taedong defended by saying, “He’s on the verge of collapsing.” As he protested, Kang said, “I’ve already collapsed.” They then pulled Jaehan’s collar and knocked him down on the ground. He is then seen weeping as he rises back to his feet.

When SBS contacted the company about the video, they ran the same playbook of victimizing themselves and downplaying the incident.

SBS contacted Kang for a telephoned statement, where they denied the allegations of abuse, saying, “I never yelled at the members nor did I assault them. […] Both Jaehan and I collapsed. I was really sad, so I asked, ‘Did you guys protect me? Did you protect me when I was having such a hard time?'”

Of course, the video only legitimized the fan’s account and audio of the incident, in addition to a non-fan’s witness report about the CEO verbally abusing OMEGA X. Thus, I’m honestly not sure what the company is doing here now that video is out as well. She’s talking about this like it was some kind of mutual combat situation and not just her abusing a person clearly in a fragile state.

The worrisome thing is how this is going to play out because unless the company is somehow shamed into releasing them from their contracts or the CEO steps down, they’ll still have control over the group in this utterly toxic work environment. Hopefully it works out for them in the end somehow.

I desperately need this to blow up and the CEO goes to jail. I hope there's a way for them to get out of their contracts. I don't think I can stomach watching the video, Jaehan is my bias and it makes me to sick to think of what he's enduring.

With this, New Jeans' Cookie messyness, and Wonyoung wasting away it really hits how there should be some protection/safeguards in place for young idols and athletes cause their guardian(s) just sign a contract and hand them over. That CEO is abusive and he's probably not the only one (SM used to be really bad too. Might still be.).

The government is all too happy to reap benefits from every idols suffering but never does anything for them. An independent institution has been long overdue from them, that would actively lookout for idols and look over their bs contracts.

This CEO must face consequences, attacking someone in the midst of an anxiety / panic attack could literally kill them. I hope all K-pop fans will rally in to support safety and justice for these boys because whether it’s your fav group or not is irrelevant, they need help and we should give it to them. Also fans get mocked a lot for being protective and sometimes idols get mocked for showing them appreciation but fans are the only ones that step in to help idols, it’s always been that way.

The situations are different because the Omega X members are not children - they’re aged 21 to 26, they are their own guardians. We should be talking here about the need to protect workers from exploitation and workplace abuse, and to have the means to report these incidents and receive protection without fear of blacklisting. Adult workers also need protections and to have their rights respected and safeguarded.

I don't keep up with much of Kpop so I wouldn't know.

This is an article with pictures so you can get up to speed. It's very concerning how much weight she's lost. I'm concerned for her, as well.

That said, I agree that fans should pressure this company to release Omega X from their contract so that they can go someplace else. This isn't safe or healthy for the members and it's really disgusting that someone would attack someone at all, let alone during a panic attack. It's also nonsensical that they would continue to deny it when they're faced with video evidence. I hadn't heard of the group until this happened, but I hate this for them or any idol and I hope that this situation can be rectified for them and will cause some changes in the industry elsewhere.

The CEO needs to be extradited back to the US for assault, harassment, battery, kidnapping, and false imprisonment charges. Are they still in the US? If so I hope they get representation quickly and file charges. Get the DA to issue a warrant so that if that clown ever steps foot in the US again, they go straight to jail.
