Somi: I hope to have a comeback

I would guess that's how a lot of YG artists feel.

as someone who continuously stans yg groups (sadly), I think their lack of comebacks are pathetic when they're clearly just holding back their artists potential and opportunities. Everyone used to say "well YG groups put out quality over quantity", like, why can't we have both? If the artists actively want to promote new songs and their music sells well, there's no reason for YG to be so stingy with their comebacks.

I'm genuinely surprised at how many comebacks treasure has had (for a YG group) and I really thought YG might be turning a new leaf but it appears they're just gonna stay the same.

If she wanted multiple comebacks, she should not have signed with YG. They must have promised her the moon because they’re well known for taking forever to get comebacks out.

YG put TREASURE through a 13 months hiatus while being rookies tho and I have the feeling this 2nd comeback they had this year was because the guys pushed for it a lot since you can see YG didn't invest a lot for it (4/5 songs were produced by the boys themselves, their teasers looked that they were made on PicsArt, they have little contents for promotions, their MV was entirely shot in a very simple set)

Lowkey I think it's because Yedam wasn't part of it and he seems to be the one they care the most for in the group

i forgot about their 13 month hiatus LMFAOO... omg but I was surprised that in their rookie yr they had 3 promotion cycles (including their debut)
i also agree with your point about yedam

I honestly think YG just got lazy w treasure, they have a loyal fanbase in SEA who are buying lots of albums and I just don't think YG really cares to try and give treasure any further exposure. SAD since I think all the boys are so talented and deserve so many opportunities

Teddy is probably busy with the new girl group. Even BP had songs where he wasn't involved anymore in their new album.

But Somi knew very well how YG treats their artists and she still chose to join them :._.: I feel bad for her either way..

Spoiler

My only hope is that the guys themselves start to push for more. Hyunsuk and Jihoon come off as leaders with strong personalities and driving force, like I said, I think this comeback was mainly because they really pushed for it.

I really want the best for them 🥺 spoiler because they're not the topic of this post lmao.

And people said the Black Label was different. That it was "autonomous", that it was "Teddy and not YG", etc, blah, blah.🙄

I feel bad for Somi and Blackpink (and AKMU). I think they do want to be SINGING artists but the company prefers them to be influencers and models. But then again if Somi had stayed at JYP she would be getting comebacks with Itzy but no solo work either. So neither are great fits for what she says she wants - to perform regularly and put out music of her own.

Sometimes its best to go the Sunmi route and go with a small company who are basically dedicated to you since you are their main/sole money maker.

If you want regular comebacks, don't sign with YG. Hiatuses of their artists are legendary. 🤷

Like I get that she got out of JYPE because solo work doesn't exist under them if you aren't Suzy. Actually going to YG and thinking you will get to release music regularly if even more naive then thinking you are the new Suzy for JYPE.

Tbh, I feel like she was drawn to the glitz and glamer of YG and their overall brand, that she didn't even really give it much thought about anything else. Like, I don't hold it against her leaving JYPE because for the most part, they pretty much abandoned solo work other than a few exceptions.  But YG is notorious for their lack of promos and lengthy hiatuses. That should be something to take into account before signing. I do feel kinda bad but that was a risk she took.

Anyone know how much longer she has on her contract? I'd be kinda surprised if she ended up staying once it's over.

I believed that when BLACKPINK released THE ALBUM, but when they released Ready For Love in BORN PINK I was "sure, Jan"

I hope she has another cb, this time singles leading to an album, a minimun 10 songs album and a repackage

I honestly think that if blackpink released consistent music, this subpar comeback with pink venom wouldn’t have been that big of a deal. But just knowing it’s probably their last comeback for years makes it way worse.

LOL I like shutdown but I agree w pink venom. I definitely don’t agree w the viewpoint that “YG releases quality over quantity” it’s just a way for YG Stan’s to justify the labels shite decision making.

I’m not sure if somi joined before lee hi left but I would never join YG as a female solo artist after seeing how under utilized lee hi was.

The quality over quantity was doomed when they reused RFL. They should have released albums per years since 2018 or 2 EPs per year since debut, idk what happened in 2017 for just a digital single. I wouldn't think they would have hit milli for every release if they released more, but they would sell good.

Sad, because I also think this was their last album.
