The speculation I saw on Twitter was that it was due to 48G losing their sponsorship with Toyota and it was too expensive to keep the group running. It has been expected since Toyota ceased its sponsorship early last year. Team 8 was created by Toyota so, everyone was surprised that the dissolution was not announced soon after the breakup. And, the reason for Toyota to back off is contract expiration. Toyota and AKB48 agreed that AKB48 would form and operate Team 8 on Toyota money until the end of 2020.
