HYBE/ADOR's Descriptor Of NewJeans and Their Upcoming EP

Recommended Posts

[NewJeans first EP review]

NewJeans has debuted at last! The most hotly anticipated new artist of the year, NewJeans is the first out of ADOR (All Doors One Room) and was commonly known as MIN HEE JIN’s Girl Group before their official name was revealed and even before any of the members were known.

NewJeans’ first EP, New Jeans, poses the question, What direction should the group take to make good music?

NewJeans’ music bucks the standard K-pop formula; the album is rooted in pop, but it doesn’t conform to any one particular style. The EP presents a sophisticated brand of pop—easy listening anywhere, anytime—and has been produced in a way that focuses on the members’ natural voices without overengineering their sound. The all-teenager lineup of NewJeans exudes a pure, effortless charm, and the four tracks off the album are brimming with the kind of energy reserved exclusively for youth. With a casual listen, it seems like every track dives into the kind of young love everyone the same age as the NewJeans members experiences, but when taken as a whole the EP looks at how life is for today’s teens, each song telling a different story and approaching them from a distinct musical angle, going beyond personal narratives to paint a collective portrait as well. The fact that New Jeans comes with a practically unprecedented three lead singles is a strong hint toward the direction the album takes.

NewJeans takes an honest, uncontrived approach to their sound. Producer MIN HEE JIN has always created innovative artist brands by going against the grain of the K-pop industry to set trends rather than follow them, and says that “pop music, like clothing, is a part of culture that is inseparable from our everyday lives.”

Just as jeans have withstood the test of time and found popularity among everyone everywhere, here’s to New Jeans becoming an icon of a generation—one you keep coming back to daily and never tire of putting on! With that aspiration in their hearts, and their new genes engineered into the era, this marks the start of NewJeans.

They are going to get HUGELY overshadowed by the other girl group hybe debuted recently. The visuals in that group are no joke.

"Producer MIN HEE JIN has always created innovative artist brands by going against the grain of the K-pop industry to set trends rather than follow them"

This is the BIGGEST joke i have ever heard. Okay if you really want to "go against the grain", then hire some Blasians, hire people who haven't done plastic surgery, and hire people through merit and not nepotism/classism. K Thanks bye.

I actually believe it suits them considering the early 2000s concept they seem to be going for, not every name needs to be aesthetically pleasing, it does its job to showcase the concept and that's enough for me.

i don't dig the group name but i actually like the song, it's the kind you listen to on sunday mornings with the windows open and the sun shines through your room lol.

is ador the sublabel of hybe? so are this group and le sserafim considered as hybes girl group?

yes and yes

ador = newjeans, source = le sserafim

different sublabels so different management teams but both are still hybe girl groups

Ouch, this American-centric take. Southeast Asians get so much xenophobic hate in Korea, even the most succesful ones like Lisa are sometimes considered as a liability for their group's image because they bring in SEA fans. Having a Vietnamese member in a group backed by one of the biggest Kpop agencies is indeed going against the grain.

so its considered american centric to support blasians?

and no. Hiring a light skin asian in a kpop group is not considered going against the grain. It 2022, we've already been had SEA members for a while. They are hired even more than mixed Eurasian members. Please get your facts straightened before making posts.  I swear i be getting the hybe fans and employees so mad that they show their true racist colors.

Also your obsession with nepotism & classism is getting tiring. Every single field in the world works like that, that's called "social capital". A tale as old as time. Even supposedly equalitarian societies like USSR worked through connections.

Be tired then. I will bring it up everytime. The members that be the most unattractive and untalented be the ones getting a free ride from this mess.

Your wording make it seem like you consider that Blasians can only originate from America, so...😓

nah, you implied that it was "american centric" to criticize korean companies for their racial bias, colorism and racism.

this type of deflection only comes from someone who is hella racist.

Quote

What's American centric here is to undermine the xenophobia faced by Southeast Asians in Korea

where did i undermine anything? I never even brought up ANYTHING about the foreign member. Only you did (presumably because you are Viet and really biased)

I merely commented that they aren't doing anything thats going against the grain. Which is true. A half white member, foreign asian member that is light skinned, korean members that look like typical idols were already see. Its nothing but the same old same old.

I am sincerely apologizing if any of my opinions comes off a racist and if you feel offended by that, but please, please, re-read my messages again. I have never mentioned Blasians, nor I have said or implied that Blasians are an American issue (after all, Korea's biggest Blasian star is not even from the US but half-Nigerian, it just doesn't make sense in the context of this entertainment industry). What I have however implied is that USAmericans often undermine ethnic issues in other continents because it's not the exact same historical, political and social dynamics they can encounter in their home country.

(also I am not Viet. But indeed, I admit being biased against Americans... As any person with a little knowledge of history should be, though)
