The soul that lies dust-laden among the stars, the sun and the moon
Awakens the helplessness of a delirious nightmare.
Uncovering this destiny's thread of events[1],
[it would appear that I] cannot escape this lifetime of loneliness.

Behind [me] lies gloomy haze; before [me] lies a mountain pass.
Even if want to escape, there is no running away.
[but] regardless of how fate governs [my life], [my] persistent heart won't change.
No matter how much time passes and how much the world changes[2].

Listening to the forlorn sound of the guqin, can't forget what should be forgotten.
Mortal relations[3] entrap my youth.
Forgive the clear arrogance I've hidden in my heart.
[i'll] go forth into battle [and] face the vastness and the mightiness of the heaven and the earth.

Life is also desolate. [i've been] deeply attracted[4], like a roaring blaze burning.
The past—watch [as I] walk once through the ups and downs.
Using the cold blade edge and the guqin's solitude, [i'll] write the events of the past and of today.
[With] the lone sword [against my] fingertip, speak and laugh easily.

Is there an antidote among the conscience of people
That can drown out the clamor of rights and wrongs and of debts of gratitude and vengeance?
The scabbard that has imprisoned[5] Fenji[6]
Cannot severe this lifetime of untameableness.

T/N:

[1] 脉络 literally refers to the vasculature of the body and extends metaphorically to a sequence of anything that underlies and is of importance to another existence (e.g. the sequence of ideas/arguments of an essay).

[2] 哪管桑田 哪管沧海 more literally says "who cares about the mulberry fields, who cares about the deep blue seas" and references the idiom 沧海桑田, which speaks to the evanescence of worldly things where, with the passage of time, even seas become fields.

[3 红尘 literally translates to "red dust" and refers to the mortal world of mankind.

[4] 魂牵梦绕 literally describes something that has lead one's soul away and is the center of one's dreams.

[5] In my knowledge, 屠俘 actually means to slaughter war captives. But I guess if you squint and stretch things a bit, it can mean that the scabbard captured the sword after a great bloody struggle...or something.

[6] 焚寂 (fén jì) is the name of the sword. This sword of fire is central to the storyline of the game 《å¤å‰‘奇谭》 (GuJian). This song is the opening theme song of a TV drama series of the same name, based on, I presume, the game.
