They Weeekly'd me. Put out cool cinematic trailers then the song was kind of generic trend following.

I guess it's what sells, but c'mon, let groups have their own identities in songs please.

idk, maybe it'll sell for purple kiss since their concept was niche to begin with. they already do have their highest first day sales, but that's more of a reflection on how well the last comeback did.

weeekly's company annoys me because they were already doing well. it's not like they were flops (far from it) so the sudden change to a generic girl crush concept is just more disappointing because after school is their biggest hit (like... did they not look at the song's stream numbers before deciding to do this major change), lol. they were already one their way in forming their music identity.

Streams don't really matter honestly. Weeekly was selling around 40k albums, and they didn't really get a bump post After School (the album after only sold like 42k I think?), they sold 80k first week with the new one. The key for groups long term success is albums and Korean popularity, it's why so many groups are chasing the trend, because it's what is selling right now in Korea.

i get that, but how much of that 80k was because of the concept change and how much was it because the album had their largest set of photo cards yet, leading to more sales in general? it wouldn't make sense for a new onslaught of fans to suddenly multiply their album sales within the first week all due to a concept change. it'll definitely generate noise, but their sales were bound to go up because k-pop in general has leveled up in terms of recognition.

i don't think these stronger concepts are selling any more than a concept like their earlier concepts. i mean, after school is still in the top 700 on melon while ven para already fell out. had that been the case, loona and everglow (knetz mostly don't like them due to yuehua) wouldn't still be struggling to chart in south korea.

yeah, it's impossible to say, I just understand why companies are willing to chase trends once a couple albums don't make enough profit.

It's been 6 years since Boombayah. Can this trend of sampling farts and yelling onomatopeias over a drum loop can die once for all?

I guess RBW is still trying out which concept suits them the best. But with a vocal line like theirs, following the girl-crush treand and its unavoidable trap-dm sound feels like a poor management choice.
