what often hated/shit-on piece of media do you actually like?

Cats (2019) is a wonderful campy movie. The dancing is amazing, the songs are great obviously (including beautiful ghosts). Victoria was a legend. The scaling is off sometimes but overall the cgi isn't THAT bad, after 5min you get used to it. Watching it felt like I had a fever due to how campy and extra it is, just sit back and enjoy the ride. I'd give it a 7/10

X-Men: The Last Stand

It's still one of my favorite X-Men movies, the cast is just SO DAMN GOOD. I mostly understand why people hate it but the criticism always felt a bit extreme to me. People put it down there with Wolverine Origins and Dark Phoenix and THAT'S what I don't get. Perhaps it's because I shut my brain off during action movies, but this has what you want in an action movie: good spectacle with stakes and excellent acting. I just hate what they did with Rogue.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it would've been awesome to see Rogue vs. Jean in that film. Would've been a good end to her arc from the first movie.

I can think of Twice's signal. As for series and movies, I am mostly into very mainstream things. I don't think I have ever watched anything which is heavily criticized. Maybe How I Met Your Mother??? But people mostly bash it's ending not the show itself.

i will die on the hill on twilight legit being enjoyable. i can sit down and watch them and be entertained particularly 1-3. tho i usually watch them with commentary tracks from these yt channels i watch. i dont think i could watch the last 2 without them tho the fighting sequence in the 5th is prettty good. 2, 3, are comfort movies, as is 1st, but i will die on the hill that the first is a legit awesome almost indie flick. it got commercial after that but the first has this such unique atmosphere and style to it.

other movie things that come to mind..

- jaws 3d. jaws 2 is fine, jaws 4 is unwatchable. but id say jaws 3d is just... lovable camp. best after original. i love the setting in a resort, the cast in interesting, i usually rewatch it after seeing the parent trap so seeing the dad as the older brother the first time i did this was like, i see him different now. but everytime since doing that im like..this is iconic. i think ppl put it as bad or worse than jaws 4 bc the effects, which are sinfully bad but i find it funny tbh.

-and other sequel stuff, esp of iconic stuff, im not too critical about. like jurassic park, worlds, i like them all. paranormal activity, ppl say all is bad except the first which is okay. honestly i wouldnt rewatch the 1st. but i would the 2nd, 4th, and 5th. 5th is one of the worst to ppl too, but i think its one of the best for sure. scream..i love all the scream movies, but most ppl just the 1st, and most ppl love the 4th, which same, but 2nd i love because i love a college slasher..3rd is easily the worst, honestly between 3rd and 5th for worst to me. those are only ones that have parts (the reveals tbh) where it just pisses me off. but rest i prolly enjoy. i guess liking the 3rd and loving the 2nd would be unpopular tho. - a lot of my love for 2nd tho is attached to that i love Urban legend, another college slasher, which one of the main chara is actually a supporting character in scream 2 (rebecca gayheart).

another thign that comes to midn is just this music group...they went viral on tiktok and ive seen tonsss of vids on youtube reccommended to me allt he time (cuz ill occasionally watch a mv by this group) bc they have like punk sound and men hating lyrics hhh. Tramp Stamps. And before i knew of this group, tbh, before they exist prolly, i already had been listening to the lead vocal and guitarist solo music, which i will stand by is legit good. tbh tho theres only one song by them i often listen to (sad hot girls) and i will die on a hill for that song, with twilight. and the girls solo music tbh. it sucks bc i like scrolling to comments to indie artists i like but theres is just full of, on their band, 99.999% negative comment prolly. the lead singers solo comments full of passive agressive compliments saying how better she is not pretending to be punk (the punk gatekeeping...) hhh. and the guitarist, who id say, of the 3 sections , im by far biggest fan of her, comments turned off i assume bc of hate. anw this bands other songs, even these 2 that went 'viral' to getting them all this hate for the bad lyrics, i have to admit i find the lyrics cringe but i still like the songs, not enough to listen to often tho. ill even get on a higher hill to die on about people calling them industry plants, cuz they dont have any push, theyre 2 singers, andthe drummer of the band, a producer (and one of the singers, produces her own music), they prolly are most the creative process themselves, just made bad choice in having a little too much of edge lord lyrics that got them attn on tiktok.. it never making sense to me equaating to the amount of hate they got. im hoping it turns around for them tho bc theneedledrop who prolly most popualr who made vids on them back then, interviewed the singer a few months ago and it was p postiive and she seems self aware compared to when they first got hate.

I watched Insatiable last week, and it was the opposite of what the woke internet people said it was.  Becoming skinny never solved her problem,  it only made her realise that she was a psychopath both before and after.  And she even says that if she could go back in time,  she wouldn't want to lose her weight, she'd just want to be a better person and love herself... which she just couldn't do. She kept feeling insecure even after weight loss, got eating disorder,  and the show uses dark humor to show some of the issues with beauty pageants.

Anw the show got cancelled. Won't miss it that much though,  patty was too annoyingly psychotic.

I absolutely adore super cute saccharine songs that most international fans seem to find cringey or unlistenable. Songs like Lovelyz's Fondant or Iz*One's So Curious are my jam. The cuter, the better.

As for non-kpop stuff, most people seem to hate the Gilmore Girls sequel/spin-off "A Year In The Life" but personally I loved it, I was impressed by how deep and beautifully written it was (if a bit sad, but honestly, it was realistic). It was the perfect way to end such a gem of a show.
